  • I totally agree with this.Classic example:I live in Australia and I want to watch the BBC sometimes.I would gladly pay the license fee.So after years of being nagged to do it,they start an overseas service-ONLY ON THE IPAD.I don't have or want an Ipad.So screw 'em-I use a VPN account to watch the odd program on the Beeb if it isn't shown on ABC Australia. I understand they want to sell the programmes overseas, but why not do it promptly online?I would pay if they'd let me.

  • LOVE HIS SHIRT!!! :D

  • Beat the pirates to the torrent sites, include advertisements, commercials, watermarks, rollovers whatever just be first! even standard definition just be first! I'm sure most people won't bother to remove/edit thus to enjoy what they want. Also offer premium paid online viewing to compliment the free.

  • This is so true.. now if only the rest of the corporate world would come to understand this.. *sigh*

  • because i live in the uk there are many tv shows and movies that i cant watch legaly

  • In Ontario there are 96 channels available over the air broadcast which 98 percent of those signals are from the US! But yet go on one those american TV websites from Canada you can't watch the material due to copyright issues in Canada! Fucking stupid!

  • same with the I could! Your account is in Switzerland and you wanna go on holidays in ANY other country??? No f...ing way, to listen to your music. The one you legally bought and own! Hulu? the same... Even Youtube makes no exception!

  • no way, the restrictions are being ran by the Governments so that why it seem the other way around.

  • WHEATON!!!!

  • dont blame the Industry Blame the Powers behind those Industries!... the Goverments Controll ALL!

  • @excaluber The industry controls the government.

  • I bought operation flashpoint dragon rising for $99 Not only was the game crap and not worth that steep amount, but the DRM wouldn't allow me to reinstall the game even with my correct serial number and login, customer service never got back to me.

so yeah fuck it, until the entertainment industry can pull there finger out of there dicks I am not going to pay for there overpriced crap.

  • BAZINGA!

  • if you were in "America" you could go to Brasil and still watch it. or were you in USA? people still need to learn geography( expect the right guy who said States

  • @dxme01gdo In an attempt to learn geography, I pulled up a map and started looking for Brasil but couldn't find it. Please help. Also, you appear to be expecting someone to say 'States'. I don't know what you mean, but good luck. If I say "States', does that count? ... States. Do you like that? Was it good for you? (I counter your internet tough guy with internet tough guy. You knew what he meant, so I give it back)

  • @gonzomatt1 Brasil is the portuguese spelling of it, so much like Deutschland is the ACTUAL name of Germany, it's not what us english speakers would use.

  • @gonzomatt1 +1 of everything to you, good sir.

  • if you were in "America" you could go to Brasil and still watch it. or were you in USA? people still need to learn geography

  • It's been confirmed that Eureka will be canceled after the fifth season. Apparently, the new Syfy corporates deemed the show too costly (paraphrasing from one of the writer's tweets).

  • Thank you Wil for recognizing this. However, SyFy seems to be taking a step back recently. Last year their streaming policy was 1 week after the original air date. This year it is 2 months or more. That is a drastic change against the honest consumer.

  • he is 100% correct. especially about DRM nonsense. why make it hard for me to legally watch/play things - you KNOW i'll just download a torrent if i can't make it work or it isn't available in my country. stupid corporate goons.

  • I've had horrific times trying to pay for content.

They don't accept a payment method. In the "wrong country". It's from a competitor. Must rent a proprietary box. Installs rootkits on your computer.

Or the restrictions; Only watch it once. Only have 24 hours to watch it. Can't take it off the DVR. No re-downloading. Must pay extra for no DRM. Must buy a package deal. Only buy "points" in bulk. Works only on one machine.

Paying just isn't worth the rootkits, hassle, restrictions or heartache.

  • Well, yes, it should be consistent and better, but piracy stopped being easier long ago. Netflix, Hulu, Steam, all of these are infinitely easier.

Problem is, there are actual REASONS that you can't just make these thing work world wide. Sure it sucks, and it needs to be reworked, but remember, the companies aren't in control of all of that. I'm sure if they could, they would be more than happy to let you access it elsewhere, because it would let people elsewhere PAY THEM MONEY.

  • @MordeaniisChaos Wheaton clearly describes why Netflix and such are still not easier than piracy in this clip.

Those actual REASONS you mention are very much in the industry's control; they amount to the industry being limited by its OWN rules which they could drop if they wanted. Since the early days of region coding and CSS, the industry has deliberately instigated artificial limits on what paying customers can do with content they got hold of legitimately. Meanwhile, pirates have free reign.
