If there is even the slightest bit of noticable lag, I will steer well clear of this. It has to be absolutely in sync with the players movements or it will fail miserably. I'm not sure if the Processing power of the 360 will bottleneck this technology or if Microsoft can iron out the lag given time, but fingers crossed.

Good job on noticing this, because it's soooooooo hard to figure out there is some delay.

One problem though, they are giving themselves an additional year to straighten out any mishaps before releasing it...

And the delay isn't even more than second. In most of my online games I play, most of the people lag around to what the character displayed. If anything, you should be complaining that you have delays in the youtube video playing, because it took several seconds to start.

Natal in a nutshell.

Can it play FPS? No

Can it play Racing? Sure, if the racing game only has stop, go and steer. How am i supposed to use the hand break, boost, and acceleration at the same time?

Can it play Strategy? Sure. but prepare to get your ass kicked by people using keyboards who know the hotkeys

Can it play RPG games? Yes, but have fun trying to choose from over hundreds of spells in a few short seconds without a controler.

Can it play drawing an elephant and coloring it? Yes it can:D

Natal is not an all or nothing solution, it can be used together WITH the standard controller (unlike the wands). So yes, I wouldn't want to play a FPS or racing game ONLY with Natal, but the same applies to the Wiimote and Sony's wand. However, I would like to play a FPS and racer with my controller (or wheel) whilst Natal tracks my head to control the camera view, as seen with TrackIR5 (search for TrackIR5 here on YT). IMO, that's a great use of the tech for a hardcore gamer like myself :-).

Well i got my plug n play for £5 (about $8) and that comes with a battery pack.

Wired connection is much better than wireless. My XBox IS in my room and the router is downstairs. Even if it came with wireless, i'd still run a wire up. I guess it's a nice little extra, but really not necessary since wired is faster (unless you spend hundreds of pounds on a router, in which case it could be the almost the same, but even then the odds are it will be less reliable and be slightly slower).

If there's no difference to you then you must have a really good router, or your ps3 (which im assuming you have?) is close enough to the router that you could use a standard Ethernet wire anyway.

With my router, the wireless signal is a quarter upstairs of what it is downstairs, next to the router.

Also, games do take a fair bit of bandwidth, especially if you're the host of the game. My crappy connection doesn't even give me enough to give me a full connection (4bars on world at war).

It' been suggested Sony decided against this tech and went for the cheaper option of upgrading the EyeToy to the PSEye. So if Natal is successful, then Sony 'dropped the ball'.

There are pluses and minuses for both. For Sony's Wand, the biggest plus imo is the 1:1 response and accuracy. For Natal, the biggest plus is that it can be used with or without the standard controller.

Hence on it's own, Natal is mostly suited to party games, but with the controller it's great for hardcore gamers. Search for TrackIR5 here on YT for one possible use (head tracking for FPS and racing games), or hand gesture commands to your team in FPSs, or leaning, or spell casting in RPGs etc.

EyeToy/PSEye and other webcams ALL have a single cam which detects movement from a 2D image. Natal has two cameras, a normal webcam and an Infrared cam which measures the exact distance of EVERYTHING in the image (even in the dark), and so it tracks all movement accurately in 3D. Also, EyeToy/PSEye depend on the PS3 to do ALL the image processing, taking power away from the game. Natal has a built-in CPU for this purpose, meaning NO power is taken away from 360 games, hence the Burnout demo.

Cut the childish insults. EyeToy is a web camera with an IR filter (which many webcams have and can be removed), but that's NOT the same thing. To measure distance, Natal sends out a pulse of IR light, which bounces off the surfaces and back to the camera. For each pixel, by measuring the time it takes for the IR light to be reflected back, it works out the distance! And the CPU is not about what can or cannot be handled, it's to make sure NOTHING is taken away from the game, including RAM.

Regarding the delay, that was only noticeable for the full body scan, and only with this prototype (since it doesn't have the custom CPU). For Burnout, all the hands-on reports say they noticed no lag.

Also, going back to IR, PSEye, like the EyeToy has an IR filter, which I should explain actually BLOCKS OUT IR light! However, it can be removed, and here's instructions on how to do it for the PSEye!
