Basically the tajiks think they come from ancient Persian lineage, but mixed with Central Asian bloodlines. This probably explains why the bulk of Tajiks in Afghanistan are more Middle Eastern-looking whereas many of those in Central Asia which is russia and china (Tajikstan for instance) are more Central Asian-looking, meaning a blend of Middle Eastern Caucasoid (i.e. Persian) and Mongoloid (i.e. Turkic peoples of that region).
