• Must be a special 'grown for flavour' variety

  • i like the bit where you go...Hmmmm v.e.r.y. g.o.o.d.....with your gob full

  • So my fresh tomato seedlings have grown the first 2 leaves on the stem developing the first 2 true leaves so email me if u have any answers for me the tomatoes are growing under fluorescent light!!!Also i have managed to scrape seeds from watermelon and they have also grown 2 leaves any answers

  • You are very late in the season starting them, considering you are in the Northern hemisphere, so don't know how they will do. Give plenty of heat, light and water.

  • hey gumleyboy i live in ney york city brooklyn this is my 6th day of growing tomatoes from the fresh grocery store-bought tomato. The seedlings are doing extremely well they all grown approxiamiately 2 inches tall! I have become aware by google that i have to grow my tomatoes indoors because up here in the north winters are cold but for some strange reason the last 2 years has been fairly desent fros about 4 times last year and the year b4!

  • We have 3-4 of that kind of tomatoe-plants in a pot on the terrace. The tomatoes are lovely! Also, our figs are ripening nicely and the grapes are starting to turn purple. And now the sun is here! Hope you are getting some sun as well!

  • Your house sounds ideal Marihani if you can just walk out and pick a tomato, fig or grape just like that.

Our fig tree is mostly ornamental, as the fruit seldom ripen enough to eat, and even if they do, they aren't worth messing with. Lovely large green leaves though.

  • Figs do very well here in Zurich. Any chance you can move the tree to a warmer nook, maybe near a house wall or something? Ripe figs fresh off the tree are almost sinful! :-)

And - yes - we have a lovely house! I just wish we had indoor parking for our cars and a bit more workshop space for hubby and me - otherwise, it is IDEAL for us!

  • Looks like things are coming right along Frank. I'll probably post another garden update when I have a few ripe tomatoes on my plants to show. We've probably only had 1 inch of rain here in the last 6 or 7 weeks so I've been having to water. The plus side is having no rain slows the tomato blight down. I've probably already harvested at least 100 cucumbers and 50 squash. I've gave quite a few away. My tomatoes are the garden laggards this season.

  • I only had tomato blight one year. It was awful to see all the leaves and fruit go to mush. The following Winter, we cleared everything out of the greenhouse and sterilised all. Then I sprayed all of the interior, glass and soil with Jeyes Fluid (disinfectant). Since then, no more trouble with blight - fingers crossed.

The only thing I have constant problems with is the huge temperature range, which can get very hot in the day and sometimes quite cool at nights, which can crack the fruit.

  • ALoha!

We admire so much the number of tomato fruits that your growing. We started our tomato plant last Mid May here in Honolulu and their now bearing fruits but not as many as your tomato plants. What is your secret? we hope you can give some good tips to help our tomato plants bear more fruits. Looking forward to your next Video blog!

    Mahalo!

  • Hello. These are cherry tomatoes, which have lots of fruit per truss, but are very small and exceptionally sweet.

The secret is in the home-made compost - see my "boring veggie video" to see how I make it (it's a bit long I know).

  • mmmm...I'll look forward to sampling them soon!

  • Yes, probably on the train journey home!

  • taste explosion, INNN one

  • Our poor neighbour went out to find his tomatoes bobbing about in the greenhouse in the floodwater! Bet you can't beat an eccles cake with a side salad of fresh tomatoes and herbs

  • Crikey! Hope you are not flooded too Brian.

Eccles cakes, tomatoes and herbs? You've been watching too many of my videos Brian!!!!

  • I have a vid I might post about our near miss with the flood. Overdosed on raisins!!

  • Fabulous! What variety of cherry 'maters are these? As usual, cherries are prolific!

  • The variety is 'gardener's delight'. The trusses on this variety tend to keep on growing and flowering, so you can have both flowers and ripe fruit on the same vine. Later in the season when they are ripening 'en mass', I cut a whole vine and store it in a cool place.

  • Hope you'll all dry up a bit soon. Your tomatoes look great! Perhaps we'll give the cherry tomatoes a try next year. So far, we're pleased with our crop. I had two sauteed zucchinis (olive oil, sea salt, and a touch of red pepper flake) and three sliced tomatoes for dinner. Perfection on a hot summer night. Jeannemarie

  • Your recipe sounds mouthwatering, but what are red pepper flakes? Are they hot or sweet?

  • Frank,

They are hot pepper flakes. I sautee them a bit in the olive oil, and it just gives it a nice bite of heat. The main star is the zucchini! Jeannemarie :)

  • Beautiful tomatoes, by the way. Mine are a bit behind - but they're coming. Yum!

  • Sounds like you've got the hot weather tomatoes like over there, so they should soon catch up.

  • We are in drought here in the upper midsection of the US

  • You just cant beat homegrown veg! Those toms look yummy, you made me quite envious hehe

  • It's like the blue peter garden of youtube, those Tomato's look delicious (Pronounced Toe-Mar-Toe)

  • Down Shep! - Sorry, yes everyone knows its toe-mar-toe not ta-may-da!

  • Yes Roland - as in Por-Tar-Toe!

  • yummy! I'll bring the mozzarella da bufala and olive oil, and we've got a lovely caprese.

quite a crop there Frank ...I'm sure others will be envious of you this year with all that soggy stuff about. Um was that sun there at the end?

  • Wow! That's a date then!!! Sounds mouthwateringly good.

That yellow disk in the sky,(I think it's called the sun) came out briefly on Sunday when I took this video. I packed my camera away, then the heavens opened as I dashed back to the house!

  • Oh, I hope you aren't rained out!! I saw on the news!! Wow your green house is awesome!! Wow... I LOVE Tomatoes! Beautiful!! OH NO YOU DIDN"T!! Big tease!!! They do look tasty!! Great job! xoxo

  • I forgot to remind viewers that these are cherry tomatoes, so will not grow big, but are incredibly sweet. Sorry if I made your mouth water! Haha. The next one I eat, I will think of you!

  • Nice tomatoes.. My Beeftomatoes are so late they probably won't crop at all this summer.. :)

  • I have never grown beeftomatoes Robert, let me know how you get on with them.

  • Will do.. if there's ever anything too show!! My wife was given the plants from a work colleague, hence the late start.. but IF we get some sun they may catch up, the plants themselves are fairly healthy, if a tad small.. :)
