  • It's sad that my n64 an my gamecube an orginal xbox still works but my xbox360 dont last a year -_-

  • snes after 1 year- working perfectly fine'

    360 after 1 year- dead

  • get a slim

  • I broke out my Atar 2600 yesterday, and it fired right up with no issues. But these pieces of junk sometimes don't work right out of the box!! WOW I used to repair these for a living and have like 50-60 laying around now. I have ONE working one from the oven trick and it has been workinmg now for 6 months. I use some of the other consoles as furnature. Ex. Outiman, coffee table, end table, TV riser, and so on!! LOL

  • DO YOU NO WER I CAN GIT A BLACK 360 FACE PLAYT

  • who has ever needed to have an atari 2600/7800 repaired ever?

  • xbox 360 elite lived from first then it came out 2 year old and still works :)

  • RROD and the PS2s DRE (Disc Read Errors) have to be one the worst things that ever happened to gaming. My ps1 lasted longer then my ps2. My first ps2 only lasted 3 maybe 4 yrs. I know some people who only had one for a few months and the DREs started. Yes consoles were made like shit after the ps1 generation. Cart based systems should be pretty sturdy. Moving parts suck big time.

  • @wulfshelmut Defiantly, not to mention carts can take more abuse than a CD/DVD can. One deep scratch and you have to replace the game. Which is why I think Optical formats should have come in caddies like the CED format (I have some videos about the CED format.) My Super Mario Bros 3 cart works perfectly, but I let my friend borrow Final Fantasy IX ONCE and it came back unplayable.

  • You have the Restrictions of Hazardous Substances laws to thank. Guess what, your old consoles uses lead in it's solder. Sadly, environmentalists had lobbied a law to ban this lead. The removal of the lead has caused brittle solder joints, and since these solders are BRITTLE they have a severely high chance of cracking under strain. The reason why lead was used is because they are FLEXIBLE.

So yeah, don't blame MS for your RROD, blame Greenpeace.

    Also, I'm no fanboy. I'm actually a PS3 user.

  • @DOPPELgameplayVIDEOS Yeah, one can't even buy lead solder anymore for building personal electronics, that pisses me off! because I build stuff all the time!!

  • You know...I had the same problem with mine. I went through 4 of the machines(3 RROD and one lock up). Had I known you back then I would have asked if you wanted it to try and fix it but I didn't so I traded it into Gamestop for like 40 bucks and got rid of my 360 games to help get my PS3 for like...$150 dollars!!!

Just sucks that it happened to ya man and trust me I know how ya feel

  • more like "they don't love you like i love you"

  • Comment removed

  • Tough luck, man. They definitely don't make consoles like they used to; I fear retro gaming'll be pretty hard in 10 years if no 360's are working then =/ Great video!

  • Bring R.O.B. out from his box for another drinking video, Their awesome and funny

  • luke I wish you where still around my bro sammy's xbox got the rrod's I had to send it to texas to get fixed. think about getting a ps3 but im not sure I really want an elite so I can play forza 3. Hey luke do you know how good are the elites, do they get the rrod?

  • Any xbox will get an RROD

  • An extra 360 u lucky lucky man

  • my cat pissed on my Super Nintendo more than once but the second my 360 was dropped on its side it was pretty much done for...

  • you should get an elite, they are so hard to overheat. Its totally worth the extra 100

  • My gamecube memory card keeps telling me data is corrupt. It's pissing me off. I thought it was my gamecube, so I sold that to gamestop. That broke my stinking heart. Now it's doing it on my Wii. HELP!!!

  • be careful on using the wii with game cube games, it will corrupt memory cards, it did that to my friends when i let him barrow my pso. all so. if your memory card is madcatz, it was bound to happen, their the WORSE 3rd party brand.

  • legend

  • Have u try the towel trick? And wow u have a back-up...back-up......back-up

  • why is all your stuff in boxes?

  • Way to solve the problem = stick to the PS3!

  • shit keeps breaking, first your xbox and now my nes zapper :(

  • E74 :>

  • would really like to see a repair vid to the 360 done by ya man... love your vids. thanks alot

  • When my 360 bricked I sent it back and got a reurbished machine.

Its common poilcy for Microsft and Sony to repair faulty machines and then send them to other customers as "refurbished" when they are still potentially faulty.

Then Jasper 360s should eliminate the RROD bus using poor quality solder may just make the problem take longer to surface.

only the launch 90nm PS3 yellow light for more or less same problem, poor solder joints. then 65nm PS3 and the new slim model should be ok.

  • The chip would be dead long before it got hot enough to melt solder. They can only take soldering temperature when powered off and only for a short time.

But thanks to politicians it doesn't have to melt to fail. Lead-free solder is brittle and unreliable and with thermal expansion it will crack the joints. Traditional solder had lead in it for a reason, but consumer devices sold in Europe can't use the good stuff anymore, so reliability suffers.

  • oh and the Dreamcast was a perfect machine too and dont tell me you never have to blow into the cart for NES games and the pins are damn fine

rofl just joking mate, but the 360 isnt the only console to have problems

at least the 360 got a chipset revision to solve its problems so the jasper and falcon chipsets are virtually RROD free

  • and the good news is that the 60gb ps3 its getting the yellow light of death

  • why bother owning a 360? when you already know for sure its going to break down?

  • That's the same thing that happened with mine just before got the E74 error.

But these danged new fangled vidya gaming consoles and their moving parts. In my day kids were happy with tapes and 48k or RAM.

  • its not actually moving parts anything its to do with the console heating up and melting the solder and the chips become loose

the E74 error as you probly know is a AV problem, some chip becomes damaged again due to heat and breaks so it acts as if there is no AV cable all the time

  • and that is y i didnt buy a 360 and got a ps3

microsoft cant even fix any of the problems with the 360. i bet they dont even fix the ones that r sent back. they probably just send u a new one and say it was yours.

  • awesome video brother, luckily nothing has happened to my 360.. i dread the day it does cuz i really dont wanna throw a few hundred dollars out there to get a new one lol

  • damn three 360s and they might not work, makes me glad i didnt invest much into mine.

  • you sound a little tipsy

  • lol hope u eventualy get your things out of boxes 5*

  • I wonder how many Xbox 360s will still work in 10 years from now?

  • damned man how many xboxes do u have...throw one at me u know..i can give u my billing address

  • wow thats a funky screen

hmm first time you film in the game room, or well x

  • Its because your SONY tv doesn't like it.

  • I got myself a 360 arcade about 6 months ago and it is still in the box, well i actually tried it the day i bought it and put back on the box. i wonder if it still works. What exclusives do you guys think i should buy for it, but wait, i need to get a hard drive first. Im an rpg fan by the way and i dont like halo.

  • at least you know how to fix it unlike some of us

  • This is why i refuse to ever buy a xbox 360.I can't afford to have my game system just decide it wants to suck balls for the day and not work.

I'll stick with my sega saturn and ps2.

  • LOL your 20 year old PCE CD-ROM still works but several of your 360's don't. Yeah heat in these things is just a killer!

  • @MN12BIRD heat is the only weakness to xbox 360's

  • same thing happened to my brothers.

  • please luke make a fix video I want to learn how to fix this piece of shit so I could by one Ill just have MS fix it for my but when they drop support for it I still want to play on it so knowing how to fix it would fix all my problems I have with the 360

  • same happend to mines now its got the red rings

  • Maybe today's consoles are too cutting edge and we're the beta testers at times.

  • I find consoles today are more like pc's they video game consoles

  • yups, its just these little 10 year olds are to ignorant to understand.

  • Nice to know its back up and working Luke - looking forward to seeing the repair trick :)

  • The screen looks like an NES screwing up!!!

  • I keep my 360 near the AC. And I havent faced RROD yet :D

  • Ouch, bad luck with the 360 there. The failure rate on those things is 52%, so it's not that surprising though. Good thing you've got two spare ones. :P

I see your room has changed a lot, you should do a new tour! :D

  • The ps3 has a 146% failure rate on the combooblator blu ray chip emulsification.

  • eh... can't you have more than 100% failure?

  • What if it failed and then set on fire?

    That's a 150% failure right there.

  • If you could do a penny fix video that would be so cool Luke, I think there are some on Youtube though.. I love my 360 and want to get it flashed at some stage to play Japanese games but it hasn't been working for months.. I had my first on replaced twice, the warrenty ran out so I had it "repaired" 2-3 times privately and it STILL doesn't work.. I really do despair with this console as its so great WHEN it works! The towel trick works but I don't like doing that for obvious reasons!

  • Screw newer consoles...

    80's and 90's for life!

  • with this gen's consoles...the quality has gone to shit in workmanship

  • You would think that Microsoft would of completely redesigned the 360 by now with the RROD epidemic.

  • This is why i bought a PS3 and not a 360 :)

Both consoles are very capable machines, both with great games but the failure rate of the 360 makes it a no go.

    *hugs PS3* :)

  • good choice xD

  • Very wise - I wish I had known about this back when they first came out, I love the system but really, REALLY hate Microsoft - they don't give a sh*t about thier customers.. The ONLY advantage the 360 has IMO is the Japanese games available - there are loads of awesome manic shooters coming out for it but that hardly going to interest most people so yeah, PS3 all the way!

  • I'm too chicken to buy one of these systems :)

lol I hope they get these things ironed out for the next gen system coming out in a few years..

  • Holy shit how much stuff do you have? Isn't all those arcade machines a bit excessive? :O

  • Id like to see the Penny Trick..not heard of that one?

  • Had my elite for 2-3 years now and never had a problem with it. Never crashed whereas my brand new PS3 slim has crashed atleast 10 times and had loads of trouble installing uncharted and resistance 2. Xbox's arent as bad as people think.

  • Xbox360 has great games and features but reliability is horrible. MS should fix these free no matter if it's been flashed or opened etc....who wouldn't wanna try to fix one at home in an hour rather than shipping it off for unknown amount of time?

  • lol ouch, technology has advanced soo much though the past 10years, you cant really compare the reliablity between a 360 and an NES, but yeah that sucks my 360 has been workin fine the past 2 years... only my 3rd one lol all free repairs tho you cant argue with that, and when i sent my 360 off to be repaired i got it back within a week soooo that was fuckin epic i didnt think mocrosoft would be so fast with it. blew my mind

  • true but i never get how people break that many 360s its weird but they dont do that anymore the new models dont.

  • people don't break them. they break themselves. really should look this stuff up on them.

  • i have looked this stuff up, but why should i my 360 never gave me a problem but like i said the new models dont break that easy nomore but i dont care cause it has a good online.

  • looks like the gpu dont feel very well

  • you do know you can send it to microsoft for free to get fixed. think you can do it even if you got it used. they send a box and stuff from what i hear and you send it in. could be a little off but might be something to try.

  • james42519, No, you're right about not being sure.

They charge you $100 if you don't have a warranty. And if you buy it used they obviously won't take care of it for free.

  • no they still fix it but atleast they dont charge $150 to fix it sony does that

  • but how often does it break? I'd rather pay $150 for a 1 time fix, rather then having to send the shitbox to ms to fix a thousand times.

  • i dont care its free, but like i said i had mines for 2 years never had a problem so thats why i dont complain.

o i would rather buy a new ps3 then pay $150 IN HAVE TO WAIT FOREVER for it to come back.

  • it takes a week and a half to return

  • FLUFFY4891 -

I don't know if Luke deleted my comment or if it's a glitch, but now I have no proof as to what I really said so bare with me.

But I actually already said what you said.

Only thing is I mentioned that it costs $100 US dollars to fix it without a warranty in my comment. :P

  • o ok

  • Well the green screen is pretty at least :P

  • luke do more japanasse 101 lessons...:D

  • what time is it in japan?

  • I've had my 360 since June (well of course I have one, the video I directed completely to you featured it but that's besides the point) and so far, I haven't had too many problems with it. Although knowing how much it could break down, I can bet on it going boom aaaaany moment now. XD

This is what happens when Microsoft decides to rush consoles out way too early into development. At least they learn't.

As for your 360, may these problems can totally be solved by your expertise!

  • so luke, hows your wife and son

  • damn 360's..lol

would like to see how the next repair go's!

  • the penny trick isnt permanent you should do the x clamp fix it fixed my old 360 right up

  • My 360 died recently too, and I had to buy another one. lol. I would love a 360 repair video! :D I want to see what's inside that thing, and why it fails so often.

  • I'm sure you'll get one out of the 3 running. :P

  • PS3 AND WII snes nes n64 genesis dreamcast Saturn all the way

  • went through three 360's, thats why i now stick with my ps3!!

  • thats bad i had mine for 2 years in it never gave me a problem.

  • I have thought about getting a 360 lately. I am guessing the newer xbox 360's have this issue fixed. PS3 all the way!

  • Think I'll stick with my NES....lol

What the hell is the failure rate for those things....seems like it has to be over 70%.

See people trying to unload them on Craigslist all the time with RROD issues for cheap.

  • well microsoft was sued or something and made to fix the problem and extended the warranty and stuff. don't think i would ever get one because of this. think it is somewhere around 54% failure rate now. look up 360 failure rate and 360 lawsuit to see more. this is crazy i think. how can they still be selling them. i know they have to be losing money.

  • they fixed alot of it with the new jasper chips the only ones really getting rrod is the old models, but there still making alot of money.

  • lol their not, its free repairs so peeple dont give a shit if they break, plus their fast at repairing them, got mine back within 5 days. fuckin epic and the new models dont "red ring of death" my bro has had his 360 for 2 years and hasnt had a problem, and same with mine. Some ps3 fans are just ignorant. I love both systems in my opinion, console wars are for nerds who never get laid hahahahaha so true just think about it!!!

  • They shouldn't even had the red-ring problem anyways. The 360 was rushed and Microsoft is suffering for it.

  • yes i agree. they this should have never been a problem. normal failure rate is 2-3% for anything i think. this has a lot higher failure rate.

  • try high 70's to 90's

  • what are you talking about?

  • the 360 failure rate, even with the new chips, there is still a failure rate of 70% of 360s on the market now.

  • well i read 54 somewhere.unless you are talking about the other comment. i said normal failure rate on other stuff is around 2-3% this is higher then that.

  • must have gone down, but still, 1 out of 2 xboxes will fail. That's Bullshit.

  • yeah but if you think about it

the ylod problem on the old ps3's sony fixed that in like 3 months.

and after 4 years and a bit microsoft finaly sort out the rrod is this acceptable?

and they dont repair it for you if its outside of warranty... even tough its their god damn fault !

i dont think you understand what the real problem is with this issue...

and your comment has contributed to the console war... does that mean you dont get layed lol?

  • Why buy these things dude? Kinda pointless. I ought to have got a super power PC rather than a ps3

  • Microsoft still repair the rrod for free outside of warrenty. Here in the UK we have to ship it off to Germany though for about 2 weeks.

  • console war is stupid like both systems

  • i know its mostly people who dont own one or never had one who talk about it half the stuff they say dont make since.

  • who said anythign about me being a fan? i don't even have a ps3 or wii or 360. what i have is a nes,snes,N64,gamecube,sega gen/cd, dreamcast, ps2, gameboy, gameboy pocket, cameboy advanced, i have had no trouble with these overheating and stop working. i don't care what system stuff is on really. what i do care about is having to go without a system if i buy it and it breaks. sure they fix them but you have to wait. so please don't say i am some fanboy.

  • Sometimes the "wire mesh" video pattern is caused by the gpu chip not making the best contact with the motherboard. Tightening the black screws that go into the x clamps on the bottom of the metal case can sometimes help.

  • I was planning on buying a 360 a couple years ago, but after the mess with the hardware issues, I decided on going with the PS3. So far so good. I love the blu-ray support and the exclusives (uncharted 2 rocks). Although I do want to play Ace combat 6, culdcept saga, and Guilty Gear 2.

  • atleast you have a backup :\ awesome video luke, keep up the excellent work!

  • I don't know if I'll ever buy a 360. :(

  • That is freakin' hilarious how many backup systems you have. Lol. SWEET! Looking forward to the repair vid. I'm curious to see one myself. I've never looked into them.

  • mine has never died, but it's on it's way.

  • Yep that's a 360 for ya!

  • If anyone can fix an Xbox at home, it's you Luke.

FYI: If you install your games to the hard drive, it'll take a lot of strain (and noise) off of your 360.

The RROD is less likely to happen if you install your games.

You probably already knew this, though.

  • Do you play through Composite or Component? HDMI?

  • Got 360's?This new tek these days....

  • im on my third 360 the first one got the rrod the second one just died outta no where my third one has been doin a good job for the past 6 months hopefully itll last longer than the other 2 =/

  • I love xbox 360, on my third one now :). My dreamcast still works like a charm lol

  • my dreamcast quit workin, i would love to have a new one, thats one of the best systems ever, fav. game: Blue Stinger

  • blue stinger is beastly! i have 3 copies of it.....2 of em are prolly JP -.-;;; but i love it. it needs to put on xbox live! if it where to come to pc. damn people would strip it from the engine and put it on cryengine.

  • it would be nice, blue stinger would make a serious comeback in the gaming world if put on pc

  • i totally agree, because every one needs to use the cement mixer^^ because that's my favorite weapon d^^b

  • you gotta love those X360´s.....lucky me i never had problems whit my

  • haha i think im on my fifth xbox 360

  • Bummer!

  • e74

  • Happens to everyone eventually.
