Biomerge Digivolution is just the English name. The original Japanese name for Biomerge Digivolution was Matrix Evolution. It was changed in the dub.

Well, either way, Growmon mons name DOES mean Growling Monster. Grow in Growmon's name comes from Growl. So Growlmon didn't suffer a significant name change. The extra letter means nothing outside of finishing the word Growl.
