that's weird, how come there's so many of em making six figures where I live? doing engineering for huge software companies? you're so ignorant it's ridiculous.

  • May ALLAH help u ..................AMEEN

  • @plumbiing allah is false and a moon god, wen will u see muslims?

  • It's a sad state of affairs when it's unusual for a husband to support his wife.

  • what a great husband. It takes great courage and love to fights the odds like this. All the best to both of them !

  • this man is super :)

  • 1000 yrs to go.Only rich are getting richer in India. The rest still in poverty.

  • Way to Go Fatima !

With brave souls like you and hard work like yours, One by one India will break her shackles.

  • India's caste system is racist. All the Indians that answer our phone calls are the "elite" well fuck that means I'll be extra mean to those assholes. Why don't we give all our American IT jobs to American INDIANS!!!! There the most destitute people on our own continent!!

  • THEY ARE CALLED PORKINSTANES

  • take ur middle finger and put on ur nose.

    4. heres the thing copy and paste to 2 other vids

  • All people must study and then they must not believe on gvt job; They must be self employed.

  • With education all indian can succed in life.

  • Exactly! And they aren't lazy either because even in the slums they have their own businesses (crafts etc) that provide $1 billion to the government.

  • All people must study; All is in our hands.

  • Slumdog Millionaires...LOL. Thank you...please come again!

  • awesome story!

  • Great story to be told and retold. My praises to Fatima and more praise too the wisdom of her husband. Though he id illiterate he is wiser than many educated men. Hope to see they both transform this world in there small but important way.

  • hats off to both

    great achievement

  • oh shut up about mocking their culture. it's not like western life is desirable with drug use encouraged, you are what you own and the majority is loathed and self hating. and where women are seen as backwards if they don't hire another woman to take care of their children

  • Great, she must a role model to many in India. All the best Fatima..may success be with you.

  • well done Fatima, you deserve the best in life and I am sure this is just the beginning. YOu will go a long way . May you both enjoy fruits of all the hard work and sacrifices , in the face of all the hard ships.

  • for sure this brings to light another side of the "Indian boom". religion controls too much, and cultures stay too much to past norms and resist change. her husband is smart and brave to defy her family and religion " she prays for him to be more successful than her"

  • well done fatima - all the best for the future for both of you!!!

  • Hats off to you Ma'am

  • maschaAllah, great couple! i wish there were more like them!! may Allah bless them.

  • pegasus009

    u're an ignorant stupid fool

if you read the quran u would find solace

this from a niqab wearing "good little sheep"

oh by the way I have achieved my goal married 3 kids and working as a Physical Therapist.

  • Kudo's to inspiring hard work and the support given by her husband.Hope this will inspire muslim girls and their parents go for higher education and strive to achieve their dreams for a better future. Thanks to the NGO who supported her and I wish she support other girls in her area in their aspirations.

  • Dear Fatima,

Your struggle is really worth appreciating, I hope more

more girls in country will take lesson from this to acheive something like you have done or something similar. May Allah(Swt) bless you.

  • Fatima, Brava!!!! Keep on going and growing. Good for you!!

  • Im not muslim or hindu, I dont think that religions are to be blame for female opresion. Where ever there is poverty there is ignorance, and usually the whole idea of the men being in control is taught. Im latin decent, and in poor rural areas the same thing happens, women are taught to serve their husbands and children. While the men is ther provider and leader of the home. In conclusion, don't point finguers at religions & this happens all around the world.

  • well said alba THUMBS UP from me

  • To kuryamtl

yes, I would like to stick to what I have said... Listen to video again. Also, I am an indian woman and even my grandmother was allowed education!! I was just responding to someone's comment that women are not educated in 'India'. I have good muslim friends , and they are well educated as well. That is why I would like to point out that in this case, the influence is due to family.

  • Nice story. Lucky she got a good husband.

  • A husband who is not afraid of a strong and determined woman, but embraces her.

  • Don't hate, these two should be seen as pillars of Islam. The Prophets favored wife Kadjira was a business woman who supported the family and his divine calling. I am not muslim but encourage muslims to follow that example from their Prophet!

  • Yeah I don't get that!! I am not a muslim either, but I have looked a bit at the prophet's life, and his wife, the first follower/Believer of Mohammeds teachings was a successful business woman! She was the one that approached Mohammed for the marriage. how can subjugation of women be justified with that example!

  • Uhhh...? so they let men rape them? being married off?I wish that people weren't so stupid.

  • The culture is to blame for the illiteracy and subjugation of women.Good for these two young people...they are paving the way to a brighter future for India.Imagine how many brilliant Indian women have the potential for greatness and imagine the gift this will be to the children of India's future.

  • Firstly, Islam DOES ALLOW woman to work. Secondly, the men need to take exampe of this, if only there were more men around likfe his, would this world be a better place!!!!! Wow, that is sooooo sweet. May Allah grant them devine happiness and here after Ameen

  • why are you bashing muslims? is aljezeerah realy free from forgne controle? why not show positive things instead of critisizing muslilms(excuse my spelling)

  • good pick up rajesh.good sood story..its just a coincidence that last week I saw an iranian film "through olive trees" directed by Abbas Kiarostomy in which the illeterate hero looks for a wife which should be literate and will support her studies...u found it in real..After watching the story I am just worried about the neighbours and religious people who are closest to a man in society and always come up wid the wrong advice...but we should come up with these encouraging stories...Amish

  • when, where, what does it have with current news to bring up a story like that?

  • I'd like to put Italian subtitles to it for many ignorant people to watch and learn. Would that be possible? Thanks

  • great story...

  • This is my first visit to AlJazeera site. Thank you.

  • May Allah bring more blessing to the family, Thanks for the video.

  • MashAllah!! :) May Fatma and Salari be successful in their endeavors! Ameen!

  • Very interesting story.

  • i'm a muslim and this is what TRUE islam promotes- the protection and advancement of it's women, especially through education. it's a shame that so many muslims, especially women, are miseducated in their own religion that they believe that it is against islamic teachings to educate a woman. inshAllah those ppl will wake up to truth one day.

  • Its not religion, Seetv569. its the asian culture that doesnt allow woman to have a career. why is it that you call yourself a muslim and say that woman are not allowed, of course woman are allowed, its the narrow minded, uneducated types that think woman should stay at home and look after the kids and all, because they are insecure of their woan being successful one, and secondly, being independant. so its to do with CULTURE.

  • indian culture. asia is such a big continent..

  • arsonmaster, its not just the asian culture, its around in many cultures, the world is a big place, and yet me only know what the media shows us, and what the government allows us to see. But trust me, this happens in many other cultures,

  • oh i know that this happens to many many other cultures, especially in developing countries. yet when we say asian culture most ppl think of far east asians. not arabs or even eurasians.

  • I was refering to AFrica, not just Asian people go through with it. And the female Circumsition is also very common in Africa. I wish people would stop thinking that only asians have a bad culture.

Like i said before there are many things that we just dont know about, or are well hidden to the masses, but it happens, but we only know if we look for it! instead of prejudging, without analysing outside the box!

  • Please note; no culture, is entirely bad. there are many things that culture has, which makes us nicer people, but I beileve that derives from religion, the good bits, that is.

  • India is a complex country and women are treated equally in India. If you listen carefully the video says 'as many muslim women'... The influence is muslim culture not Indian.

  • Oh yeah, sure! No Hindu women have any problem in India. Pardon me while I laugh

  • spoken like a true delusional indian!

  • yes, I would like to stick to what I have said... Listen to video again. Also, I am an indian women and even my grandmother was allowed education!! I was just responding to someone's comment that women are not educated in 'India'. I have good muslim friends also, and they are well educated as well. But here in this case we can see that the influence is due to family.

  • MissStylish- part 1: i never said muslim women r not allowed 2 work. i am a muslim man who knows better than this, and i agree with u 1000%. it is NOT religion it is CULTURE that keep these people trapped. muhammad (saw) brought islam to eradicate backwards cultural practices that r harmful 4 humanity. funny, it seems that many muslims 4get that muhammad (saw) himself was employed by who? A SUCCESSFUL INTELLIGENT WORKING WOMAN- Khadijah! go figure! may Allah be most pleased with her.

  • MissStylish- part2: again, i agree, it is bad cultural practices that, unfortunately, pervade some, if not much of the muslim world today. this ignorance leads to women, in some countries, having to walk 5 steps behind a man, or women not being able to vote, or women having to remain locked up indoors unless a male relative escorts them somewhere, or women purposely not being educated or in some countries, women r subjected to the horrible cultural practice of female genital mutilation...

  • MissStylish- part3: all of this stems from IGNORANCE, FEAR & INSECURITY- not religion. again, muhammad (saw) came with islam to eradicate these ignorant and harmful cultural practices. unfortunately, it seems as if many muslims have slipped backwards into the old harmful tribal customs & habits of long ago. how sad & how unfortunate for humanity. they tarnish the image of a beautiful religion with their ignorance. may Allah open their eyes to truth.

  • Excellent responce. I agree with you.

I wish many people that do have preconceptions of Islam, go find an education.

  • are u joking?... women in Islam are not treated equally at ALL... you think if fatima had followed the quran like a good little sheep and wore the hidjab or burka she could have achieved her goal? I dont think so... and dont waste time by talking about the past on how mohammed "treated" women equally.. talk about the present...

  • Well brother,

PLease do not judge from the outside. I wear a hijab, and adhere to Islamic law. And I am in the process of becoming a lawyer, so obviously it does not seem to stop me and another million women from achieving and working.

How can u an outsider, who has never worn the religious hijab/niqaab comment on it?

Thats like me commenting on which wine is good/bad seeing I have never drank any wine, my reasoning would be meaningless! - Dadi Jaan

  • There are 209 people who died in a train bombing in Mumbai last year that might not agree with you if they were alive.

  • very nice

  • Congratulations to the family, I hope no fundamentalist cleric puts a bullet in her head in the name of God because of some perceived religious indiscretion.

  • religions involve alot of killing in the name of God. it's not unusual for people to therefore kill for the sake of "purifying" the earth to please God

  • Love overcomes all.

  • God Bless :-)

    Allahu Akbar.

  • so wonderful and so inspirational! may GOD be with them

  • what amazing story she got in her life.....in every struggle she got a success in return.KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!

  • Nice work!! Way to gooooo... keep this up... Congrats... Basima.

  • This is the best news feature I have seen in a long long time, Al Jazeera is so refreshingly different. Long live Al Jazeera

  • I was really impressed with her go get it attitude. Many of us get such chances, but in the face of such odds to achieve a degree in Engineering...Kudos to both of them.

  • beyond the firee of uncertainties of poverty and security of life comes a new and refreshing shower of hope and victory against all odds.........keep it up al zajeera...keep it up the spirit of man..

  • This story(sorry!! let me correct it) .. this coverage of a real life struggle is a much needed respite in the kind of news coverage(read breaking news:-)) we see today... but let not this coverage be the end .. it would be worth following Fatima and her hubby in their new venture into the metro .. Kudos Rajesh!!!

  • Fantastic story Rajesh! Very powerful.

  • A fantastic story by Rajesh Sundaram....it really shows the undying spirit of a simple and poor girl, who has achieved her goals against all odds....kudos to rajesh

  • hi Rajesh

The story is a wonderful attempt at dismantling stereotypes....A seriously rare piece of "GOOD NEWS"

    Zeenat

  • Hi Rajesh

Kudos to you for bringing this story of an awe-inspiring fight exhibited by Fatima against all odds. This stoy goes on to prove that reservation is just a misnomer for the backward classes. It is a slap right in the face of conservative families who either kill their girl child at the time of birth or do not allow her to study.

    Keep up the good work!!

    Rohan

  • Hello Rajesh! Excellent report!

  • nice piece of work. keep it up.

  • hi rajesh .. nice piece of work . really a positive journalistic approach in now a days media trends ...very inspiring story.

  • Hi Rajesh,

I think while we tend to appreciate the perseverance of Fatima, and forget Salari, who should infact be appreciated for his broadminded outlook. An inspiring story, of course, which remind me of two Muslim sisters in Mumbai, who had to take the help of Bombay High Court to continue their college studies in the face of opposition from conservative community.

  • Hi Rajesh, very inspiring story. If we as a nation really have to shine, it's a must that every Indian gets education. Kudos to Fathima and Salari for braving the odds. Hope all so called religious gurus, who are hell bent on keeping women in a purdah, learn from this couple.

  • Very moving, may Fathima and Salari live happily ever after!

  • Great Story Rajesh!

  • congratulation to this couple.... islam encourages education for both men and women....its the ignorant people who says women should not be educated. shaikh and fatima will be an inspiration for many.....

  • What a moving story! Great job Rajesh. May her tribe and her surname (i.e. Salary) increse!

  • MashaAllah now thats love! that is marriage!

but sadly not many understand that

  • it was excellent thankyou Rabia

  • hi

  • A love story, very sweet. Reminds me of Bryan Adams song "When a man loves a women". It it the lyrics are "Give her wings when she wants to fly". Salary give her wings.

  • Anybody know how I can email them?

  • Inspiring life for us. whether or not It will help others but it will for me. Safi

  • What a wonderful story! I think it is an inspiration for everyone. Now they can both have a better life because Shaikh Solary encouraged his wife to continue her education instead of stopping her. That is real love!

  • Its love :) God has given us to pursuit our Dreams....

  • Awesome story

  • Nice!

  • *tears

  • A successful husband.. Opened the bright future of their and their childrens life

  • This is a great story. I hope he husband learns to read, already he has the drive to produce, and he just needs that extra push.

I doubt this could happen in the west in this day and age....Real love for each other.

  • This is just another example where it is clearly manifested that, determination and brain can lead one to a great height even from none other than a life of slum, the greatest catalyst is : THE WILLPOWER.
