If science and religion are both about discovering the 'truth', then there's really no real reason for either sides to invalidate the other. Religion cannot function without science because there would be those that claim they speak the word of God. But science cannot function without religion either because there would be those that claim 'that's scientifically proven'. Scientific theories are constantly being implemented, approved and disproved, so I'd say more but I've run out of words lol

@Normz111: First and foremost, Muslims do not compare Allah to His creation. Therefore, the question can be answered as such due to the fact that Allah is completely Exalted and far above mortal description; He is not “like” His creation.
Allah tells us in the Qur'an that He is “As-Samad” (The eternally Besought of all). He is also the “Al-Awwal” (First) and the “Al-’Akhir” (Last) He is without beginning or end. This is how He always was and always is, and always will be, so to speak.
"Religion" IS man-made. Contrary to popular belief, the Bible does not tell one how to "have a religion". Faith is not a leap in the dark. You ARE going about this the right way in having skepticism and keeping an open mind. You should check out the prophecies in the Bible concerning Israel and Jerusalem. There is a good film on youtube called "Israel, Islam, and Armageddon" posted by TheBereanCall that shows how they have been and are being fullfilled. Actually, TheBereanCall has many good vids
@manbearhines: Discoveries in astronomy have shown beyond a reasonable doubt that the universe did, in fact, have a beginning. There was a single moment of creation.
Your videos are good. You have something to say which helps and I think there is a sincerity about you. I like your comment about your own mind being the thing you can trust most in this one.
I have now watched a lot of Christopher Hitchens on youtube. Actually his arguments are the same in a lot of them. This is not a bad thing it just makes his rational viewpoint standout more. I recommend a 10 part video entitled "Christopher Hitchens & Tony Jones"
Look around you : at the beautiful sunset on a summer evening, at the moon and the stars on a cloudless night, at the water that you drink, at the trees and how they grow from tiny seeds. Think about yourself : your eyes with which you see, your ears with which you hear, your tongues with which you taste and talk, your hands and your feet, your heart and your brain.Consider how these things are so complex in themselves and yet work together in such perfect harmony.
To the archaeologist the existence and intricacy of the piece of pottery is conclusive proof of the existence, intelligence and ability of the people who made it.
Did this archaeologist ever see the civilisation that produced this pot ?
How does he know that it ever existed ?
He knows because he saw that the piece of clay was produced by someone who designed it, and shaped it, and had the intelligence to be able to heat it and produce the pot, and not only that, they also had the ability to colour it and make it look beautiful.
he can tell us about the types of ovens, temperatues, and dyes that they worked with, the raw materials that they used, and thus assess the level of their artistic skill and technological ability, etc. All this from a small piece of clay lying in the desert.
There's no logic in your logic. This is the reason archeologists look for evidences from ancient civilization. So that we would know the facts of our existence and not just from supernatural stories.
Consider this : An archaeologist digs deep into the desert sand and finds a piece of an old clay pot. After his investigations, this archaeologist can tell us, from this little old piece of dusty clay, so much about the civilisation that existed thousands of years ago that produced it;
@xukun0 Your have written a very well thought of argument about the existence of God but as always have forgotten to give importance to man's ingenuity and abilities. Potteries and pretty things made even thousand of years ago are all made by man. We (present generations) came from "MAN" through our ancestors and have become who we are through million of years of evolution and didnot magically appeared here on earth.
by the way, whats with the ugly make-up? If there were christians with white hats living in your neighbourhood they would consider you a witch. Just saying.
Great video made and of course subscribed. God is not great - a great book though if you like to strengthen this one id recommend Dawnkins' 'the god delusion'. I can't wait to read HItch 22!! Thank you for sharing! I want to read the part of his mom, I never knew about her tragic death! I heard him talk about it!
Pick up your closest Bible - open to Joshua (5th book), go to 10:13 and read that.... in order for the Sun and Moon to stop moving for Joshua to slay the enemies of Israel a bit longer, the Earth would have to stop rotating... which means catastrophic consequences for life on earth. What is more plausible - God fixed everything to make it 'work' or the 'word of God' and consequently God, is a complete human construct created by scared uneducated humans living in a corner of this vast Universe.
You know, every time I am scared or in doubt I start to pray! And When I am in trouble and feel so alone I start to pray for some person in heaven to save me!
And sometimes I feel closer to "god" or to imaginary friend closer than to anyone on earth!!!! I want to feel that I matter and my life is not an accident and that I am valuable! maybe that's why people believe in GOD!
@MargaritaShamrakov Our life has no more value than that of a lady beetle. This doesn't mean we should lead sad and depressing life, on the contrary - it puts at the same level as the plants and animals and we remove ourselves from this silly pedestal we've created! I wasn't sure how to take your comment - satirical or serious? I presume you were assuming the mind of a theist when you wrote that!
I was serious, sometimes in hard times, it is easier I think for people in general to endure hard times when they believe in God. And when things get unbearable for me, I really chicken out and I start hoping there is someone who hears my pain.
I also was brought up in a very religious environment
@mspookie Did you read the rest of my post or saw the first bible quote and ran for the comment section? You'll see by the manner of my writing that I am completely undermining Christianity.
yes I read this comment! Probably God was created by humans, but I think humans feel safer around with God! I think people that believe in God and afterlife are happier than people who do not.
@MargaritaShamrakov I would love to sit down and discuss this with you because the comment section here isn't big enough! Yes I have read studies that people are supposedly happier because they believe in God - I think this is a direct result of not having a meaningful substitute. You can be almost spiritual about how the Universe works (e.g. Dawkins & myself). Maybe I should start doing video responses. Hmmmm...
@astudyofeverything Your comment is confusing. There is nothing to discuss. What a weird dialog it would be - two atheists finishing their own sentences with a cup of tea. Just ignore the damn thing until the time comes to the debate.
@xomiakas What on earth are you talking about friend? People with similar positions on issues talk about all sorts of things everyday. You don't have to have a debate to have a decent conversation with a fellow human being.
@xomiakas Why do you think ever comment has to be a debate? When you talk to someone about the weather you aren't debating - it's just called talking...
@astudyofeverything So you're saying you would like to sit down and talk about the weather? well, if you're not from England that would be the shortest dialog ever, not worth sitting down. It is similar to a discussion about religion by two atheists - short, weird and unnecessary. Lets just stfu cuz this is getting stupid.
@MargaritaShamrakov Weak, stupid and sad people, not demanding any evidence, choose religion to be happy and stand against science and reason.
Strong, smart and happy to begin with people choose science and reason to continue to be smart and continue to live their lives to the fullest, bracing the truth.
The reason why we have suffering in the world is because we have freedom given by God, If God became like a Superman and jumped in every sec to prevent suffering, where Margaritia would are freedom be?
@wendighoul Having free will is paradise. We have the free will to make the right or wrong choices. In North Korea they have no free will. Do you want to live there?
I think i should add that the Missionary Position is a other book by Christopher Hitchens, ( about mother Theresa ) and not a perverse comment by louiseiiid.
I deffinetly tend to agree with you on the lipstick.
- However; if he is perfect (an attribute that's only mentioned once in the gospels to my knowledge and maybe twice in the old testament) His reasoning must be perfect.
You would have to define perfect first of all- which I cannot.
It's easier just to consider what you said- maybe he's not that good. That's hard to contemplate (for me at least).
@wise120481 I agree that we have a lowly origin. I do believe in evolution. I never saw any conflict between Darwin and religion myself. For instance 'adam' in the bible is a name that comes from the hebrew word 'Mankind'. Yes, we all have desires, but people tend to think "desire" means we only want to do good. People do desire revenge though. They do desire to hate, to judge, and to kill.
@wise120481 In your opinion perhaps. You stress that there is no evidence for God-of which I; as a christian, will agree. I cannot prove his existence. However you still hold to
theology that states that "God created the Devil" and "He allows suffering to exist" as if you "know" what would be going on in his mind.
As far as a God not being concerned with peoples well-being and the subjugation of humans. It is dependant on ones' interpretation; of which there are many (good and bad.) IMHO.
That's very interesting point of view. But imagine it was you, and you did not help a suffering person, and you could have helped. people would label you a bad person. Maybe GOD is not all Good?
I struggle with these questions myself. However; life (people) are complicated; all the series of events that lead up to something
happening that causes suffering can't all be
taken into consideration because you simply can't be sure of whats true or not or what is factual or not. You can only be reasonably sure of some things.
It doesn't make things easier or prove anything though. If God is not all good that would be a very human explanation. However-
You aren't a christian unless you believe everything in the old testament, new testament, deuteronomy, book of job, exodus, leviticus, and talking snakes. If you don't you're just a bat shit salad garden picking christian.
@wise120481 I prefer a statement by Stanley Kubrick (arguably agnostic): " Man isn't a noble savage, He is and ignoble one. He is irrational, brutal, weak, silly - He's totally unable to remain objective wherever HIS interests are concerned."
You've must have heard it said "God works through people." Maybe God is willing and able- It's just people rather do what they want to do.
There's no such thing as evidence of an infinite thing. There is only proof because, being infinite, it should be obvious and irrefutable to everyone.

We are responsible in everything we do. Allah grant us free will, meaning we can do whatever we like, even worshiping statues, trees, moon, sun, etc.
You can't possibly say "i'll rape someone then repent later" Or "God made me rape her"
Try telling that to the judge in the court of Law.
If God wills He can turn you to a goat this very moment. All He need to do is say THE WORD- Kun. But with His will, you're still human.
And with the Word Kun- Jesus was born, without a father.

Dear Margarita - you are a lovely and intelligent girl, but I think the voice of reason was not speaking when you chose that lipstick... Green?
Thanks for the review. I'm just starting The Missionary Position and will read God is Not Great next.

I think i should add that the Missionary Position is a other book by Christopher Hitchens, ( about mother Theresa ) and not a perverse comment by louiseiiid.
I deffinetly tend to agree with you on the lipstick.

@andibandi569 LOL nothing too perverse in the Missionary Position as practiced by moderate copulators. However Mother T. perverted much.

Yes I agree, but maybe God exists, but he/she/it has no concern for humans?
MargaritaShamrakov 2 years ago
@wise120481 I agree that we have a lowly origin. I do believe in evolution. I never saw any conflict between Darwin and religion myself. For instance 'adam' in the bible is a name that comes from the hebrew word 'Mankind'. Yes, we all have desires, but people tend to think "desire" means we only want to do good. People do desire revenge though. They do desire to hate, to judge, and to kill.

@wise120481 IMHO-Evil comes from the people who do it. If Satan exists-he has the easiest job in the universe.
I really can't argue anymore. I hope I didn't come-off as proselytising. I was just trying to defend my postion.
You're very bright though. Very good debate.

SousSherpa 2 years ago
That's very interesting point of view. But imagine it was you, and you did not help a suffering person, and you could have helped. people would label you a bad person. Maybe GOD is not all Good?
MargaritaShamrakov 2 years ago
I struggle with these questions myself. However; life (people) are complicated; all the series of events that lead up to something
happening that causes suffering can't all be
taken into consideration because you simply can't be sure of whats true or not or what is factual or not. You can only be reasonably sure of some things.
It doesn't make things easier or prove anything though. If God is not all good that would be a very human explanation. However-

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"

@SousSherpa
You aren't a christian unless you believe everything in the old testament, new testament, deuteronomy, book of job, exodus, leviticus, and talking snakes. If you don't you're just a bat shit salad garden picking christian.

@Romansteel13 I don't know what you call yourself; But either way-you are Ignorant.

This includes Christians... Perhaps more so.

@wise120481 As I understand it. Loving God
and loving your fellow man is supposed to be the same thing. It's 'supposed' to be the next great commandment.
