Living roofs are measured at 30 degrees lower on hot California summer days! That is a low tech solution available today even without all the hills and valleys that give this Academy free "cold sinks" that allow them to dispense with air conditioning altogether. This pays off today, not someday in the future. Air conditioning costs a fortune.

That building uses quite a bit LESS energy than the previous complex. If you listen to the video, you will hear her say that the building uses NO air conditioning, and the photocells produce a significant portion of the electricity it does require.

That building may have cost a lot, but it will pay for itself in just a few years.
