Desperate times call for desperate measures. What Sea Shepherd doing is right.
What they are doing is necessary to save the whales. IF you do things peacefully it would take a lot of time to pressure whalers to stop what they are doing, especially when they are supported by the government.
Sea Shepherd has Received the honored 4-Star Rating for Excellence, Trust, Quality & Fiscal Management
Less than a quarter of all charities evaluated have received 4-stars, the highest rating achievable. Sea Shepherds rating outperformed the majority of charities placing it among the Top in the United States

yeah they don't need thousands of whales to do research.... plus what kind of research are they doing? tissue samples, for what? and yeah the sea sheperds go first and attack the japanese, but thats the only way they can hold the hunting and make the japanase waste money and resourses so that their expedition ends sooner
this is what he said. "When I was 11 I would walk the traplines in Eastern Canada to release beavers and other fur bearing animals. I would then destroy the traps.
Haha I understand people, you are actually saying that because these people are attacking ships KILLING ANIMALS and you say hey you guys are assholes you get what you deserve. I bet you guys are all for the Iraq/Afghanistan war's right? If not you have a seriously messed up set of priorities. They save helpless animals and you crucify them? I just don't get people these days?
hey pay attention they just chase a little get in the way and then throw stink bombs the Japanese boat throws metal and hurtful things along with anthrax
Unfortunately I do pay attention and it's clearly shown on the show that they chase and make the first move on the Japanese fleet. Anthrax! What the heck are you talking about? Did I miss something on the show or are you just referring to the way the last episode ended? It's nice of you to jump to conclusions.
Paul Watson WILL NOT rest untill the Japs stop slaughtering whales. They pillage the ocean for every other conceivable food source they can find. Japan is too small for a productive agricultural system... ergo they fish. It is 2009, whales are dying off and we don't know why and the Japs continue to illegally hunt these wonderful creatures under the guise of "research". Enough is enough. Capt. Paul Watson will destroy you. He will outlast you. He will prevail. You will lose.
kill every last whaler. burn their fucking homes, destroy everything and everyone they love. 100 human lives aren't even worth as much as that of a humpback whale. there'll always be more humans and when there aren't, earth will be a much healthier planet.
for every sea shepherd out there, there's at least 50 scarier Animal Rights activists out there. you pussies calling what they do terrorism don't even KNOW what real eco-terrorism is.
That is some hilariously hysterical fearmongering there! Wow. Who needs facts, right? Facts like tens of thousands who die at the workplace because corporations push for profit doesn't include a push for safety? Facts like anti-abortionists kill people randomly with their bombs? Facts like the US gov't tortures people? Facts like over 1 million Iraqis have died because of the Iraq War? Fact check: all those "scarier" animal rights activists that save animals also never kill people.
Why do those of you that so obviously care nothing about protecting animals watch these videos? Is it because you like arguing? Belittling others that do care?
Are you really that devoid of feeling that you can't, or rather won't allow yourself to feel and to care about the amazing lives that are being lost?
If so, I truly feel sorry for you.
These magnificent creatures, and all animals deserve our all out effort to protect & care for them!
Interesting too that Paul Fatson doesn't mention minke whales when asked about whale populations. How much does he know about whale species populations trend as his NGO has been banned from the IWC since 1987.
This show is pretty much one sided. Larry King should have invited someone from the Japanese side to expose SSCS' lies.
Paul "Lying Machine" Fatson taking credit for the number of whales Japan couldn't take 2 years ago is quite funny to hear.
The cause was primarily a fire that occurred on the Nisshinmaru. At that time, the Robert Hunter (the Steve Irwin's former name) was already heading back to Australia.
What are those reasons you suspect I may be motivated by an ulterior agenda?
You just need to read the IWC documents. The Scientific Committee commented that the programme is providing information leading to a substantial improvement in knowledge of stock structure.
Whether you want to believe it or not, many scientists among the IWC have a good opinion of Japan's research programmes. These opinions matter more thant that of people who don't know much about this subject.
The IWC is not a scientific, unanimous, apolitical organization. The positions of different delegates from different countries often are biased favoring the political, economic interests of their own countries. IWC documents are not credible science on this basis alone. There has also been accusations from within the IWC that Japan has been "buying" votes. The IWC is not an unanimous, scientific organization, but has schisms within it that are pro-whaling and anti-whaling.
That's a terrible accusation you throw on the scientists of the IWC's Scientific Committee. The views of the delegates in the Commission are certainly tainted with political motives, but I believe that most scientists among the IWC/SC are ethical and doing their job objectively (even though some members of the SC seem not to be apolitical).
If IWC/SC documents are not credible regarding cetacean research and knowledge, then what is?! Not SSCS, for sure.
Seriously, you need to get your facts straight. I am not the source of these accusations. These are accusations made by members of the IWC themselves. IWC anti-whaling members themselves argue that those so-called documents do not provide adequate scientific rationale to resume whaling. Get your facts straight. I am just relaying the accusations by IWC members themselves.
Do you really think that claims made by anti-whaling members of the IWC about the IWC/SC documents are objective?
Whaling is being conducted under the name of "Aboriginal Subsistence" among others. Should this stop because there is "adequate scientific rationale to resume whaling" as you say anti-whaling people claim?
Isn't it the same for the whales that whaling may be done for subsistence, scientifically or commercially if it is managed properly?
isanatori, some of your response doesn't make grammatical sense to me.
I don't think you realize that this point invalidates any attempt to use IWC or IWC documents as objective science -- which you have attempted before to claim -- which I disbelieved.
Additionally, another thing to remember is that our oceans are in serious disrepair. We hardly understand oceanic ecosystems. Instead of screwing around with it, we should just leave the oceans' ecosystems alone as much as possible.
Yeah, I forgot a "no" in front of "adequate scientific rationale to resume whaling" in my previous comment.
Anyway, you're free to consider the IWC's Scientific Committee documents as non objective science, if you wish.
However, just "leaving the oceans' ecosystems alone as much as possible" is not going to improve our understanding of oceanic ecosystems. And whether you like it or not, Japanese research programs (which also includ a non-lethal approach) do provide crucial data on this matter.
It says Japanese right on your profile... What a life it must be to defend savages who kill some of the most beautiful beings on the planet. I'd say your mother would be be proud... but considering the fact the you are Japanese I'm sure she is. Peace man. Karma is a circle... That always comes around.
I frickin' hate that CNN put the title up: "Whale Wars" STARS: PROTECTING WHALES Or Endangering Lives?
If you volunteer for something.... you are well aware of the risks.
Why is killing whales even a question in 2010?! Why is our government or the UN not doing anything about this?

For some reason, I suspect that your motivated by an ulterior agenda in your attacks -- not a honest quest for truth.
Come on. Really. No one seriously believes that the slaughter of the whales is being done for "research" as the Japanese claim it to be.
This is a ludicrous lie that no one seriously swallows or believes. It is indefensible.
