Mike Green is all potential man. All the good Forwards in the League are REALLY Young in age. Crosby, Ovechkin Malkin ect. Forwards have a shorter learning curve. But the dominate Defensemen in the NHL? Older guys, like Lidstrom, Niedermeyer and Pronger. All guys well into the mid 30's.
It takes longer for Defensemen to develop, but Mike Green has tremendous Offensive upside, and since he skates almost like Paul Coffey he will hone the defensive respects of this game soon enough.
@ApachePiL0T Lidstrom, Pronger and Niedermayer are all great defenseman since they are in the league. But none as won the Norris early in their carreer. Doughty and Green will win the Norris really often, Doughty will win it the most imo, but 2 great young defenseman.
I like Mike Green - he was the captain of the Saskatoon Blades in the WHL and his story was a nice one - He got shit on most of his hockey career, never played AAA hockey, never played Tier 1 - now look at him.
mike green the best defender and 3nd best offender 1st best is ovechkin 2nd is semins that a beast line ovechkin can check score and pull moves and he has a nice slaper semins can score off rebounds green can also check and has a good slaper also like ovechkin and lets kick the rangers ASSES!! woo

This comment has received too many negative votesshow
no he wouldnt. i hate crosby but the whole reason for greens offense is his power play and shit. he gets points cuz he sneaks down as a d man and finds the holes. its harder to watch a d man jumping down then to watch a forward working the puck out of the corner. he is amazing tho. not tryin to start a huge argument. once again i hate crosby but u cant deny hes good.
He'd be robbed not to get the Norris this year- Chara and Wideman have been great on btw the #1 team in the east , you can't rule out Lidstrom of course, nor Dan Boyle who's been sick, but Green no doubt - 70 points for goodness sake!
Green recently tied the NHL record for most consecutive games with a goal BY A DEFENSEMAN (a goals in 7 games straight, the last of which he scored 2 in). He's only getting better over time! It's because of his great skating ability and deadly accurate wrist shot that comes out of nowhere.
dude you should jump off a cliff, you obviously have no clue what your talking about, I bet you have no clue who Mike Green is... Do humanity a favor, and kill yourself
I agree with you there ufc, he is good not great, yet or maybe he wont even hit greatness.
2 years is nothing to call someone great. Best all around player alive? WOW! Thats thee dumbest statement I've heard. The best all-round player in the NHL is either Zetterberg or Datsyuk, no one in the NHL is a better 2 way player than either of them IMO.
dude.. hes practically a lock for the 2010 olympic team... Hes got all of the capitals PP goals this season(last year he didnt have any) I call that progression. greatest ever no... but maybe the most talented young all around D-man? I think so.
He will surpass Bourque this season in Norris' and will eventually tie Orr's. He has adapted better than any player to the new NHL that I can think of. Number 7 is his no doubt in my mind.
Orr is great, hes in the old NHL where you can do end to ends no problem. Lidstrom has been dominate before the lock-out when rules were more rough and tough and is still dominating in the new NHL where its geared towards young guns. Lidstrom is over-all the best. 38 years old, missed 15 games in 6 seasons, played every playoff game 6 seasons, consistently leads defense men in points, plus/minus has never hit a minus in his regular season career.
Mike Green has a long way of surpassing Lidstrom. Lidstrom is in the top 3 maybe 2 defense of all time. As much as i like Mike Green (fav player)needs to develop more to beat him.
lidstrom is the best d-man since bourque retired but i'd call him top 5 of all time, not top 2 or 3, you still got bourque, orr, COFFEY, maybe you could throw macinnis in there and then I would say Phil Housley, Chris Chelios, Scott Stevens, and Lidstrom are somewhere after that- with Lidstrom probably being slightly above them
Lidstrom is the first Europian to win the Conn Symth and win the Stanley Cup being the first europian born/raised/played hockey. Along with 7 Norris', 4 Stanley Cups total, and consistently been top 3 in scoring for defense men for god knows how many years. Given the fact he was drafted 3rd round as well.
This is the first time I have really watched anything by Mike Green and I'm happily surprised. Very talented, but remember he had one good year, 2008-2009 will be a big year to repeat and not be a one hit wonder.
Now, in terms of defense men of all time, Lidstrom is the best. I've seen stuff by Orr yes, and its uncanny what he could do then. That was how long ago when you could do end to end goals all the time, it wasn't hard.
Orr was by far better then Lidstrom, Also Bourque? how can you forget him man. please go home and learn what you are talking about. you have seen some stuff by orr not everything he did. he was the greatest all around hockey player to have eve played and the greatest blue liner.
Lidstrom is easily hands down the best defense man in the NHL today. Mike Green, although, is a young talented player, who I believe will surpass Lidstrom, given the time.

Mike Green is badass, but how can you make a career highlight reel of a guy who's been in the league for 2 seasons?
