  • THANKS FOR THIS,MATE!!! =D

  • to me they were the best band ever. seriously i think they were better than the beatles or ANY band.

  • omg you all suck with your stupid fag ass "IAN i so cool because has dark feeling and stuff blabalba"

only reason i listen to this is because of the epic drummer, the nice basslines, and the riffs that are so retarded that i rly love them for it

but the whole "its something good when you want to die thing" rly... its more embarrasing as listen to lady gaga

  • whats that song and its like "ah ah ah im so happy. ...joy division on the ah ah ah

  • I first encountered Joy Division when I heard them on the John Peel show on BBC radio 1 when I was about 14 or 15. I listened on a mono radio, in the dark when I was supposed to be asleep due to having school the next day - their music has a power that still sends shivers up my spine thirty or so years later.

Unknown Pleasures is a masterpiece - of course it has rough edges, but for emotional power and the feeling expressed by a tortured soul it is unsurpassed.

  • @xVhincex that comment came right out of your ass, even when your head was stuck up there....

  • @BagpipeHustler fuck you bic, gimmie your email, ima fuck you up

  • @xVhincex even when it's.... not bad for a cover, and pretty good for the new-school rock in general: it still doesn't stand up. i'm sorry but you can't say shit about joy division, and the killers absolutely killed it.

  • @BagpipeHustler I Never said joy division was Bad -.-

  • @xVhincex I KNOW YA DIDN'T!!

but you heard what I said....

  • brundontfreeze000 Not Joy Division!

  • It's amazing to think of what this band did in the short amount of time they were together and the legacy after they lost Ian Curtis. We can only imagine what more this influential band could have done.

  • yeah i know man

  • No doubt the boy had talent but he danced like Bill Gates! Haha

  • ok look i hate it when ppl slag bands like the killers for doing covers. wen they do covers it means they like the song and they're just having fun.

  • KILLER SUCK

  • Who would have expected such a voice to come out of someone that looks like Ian Curtis? So great.

And by the way, he had moves.

  • nooob the killers = Fvck

  • I wouldnt compare them to the killers. But the killers did make a fucking good cover of this song.

  • The Killers version is awesome, but this is raw and punch you in the face good!!!

  • i love the way he dances it gets me buzzin

  • the killers? r u fxxukin kiddin me?

  • killers suck and their cover of this song blows aswell.

  • Joy Division was a great band and Ian Curtis was a genious performer !! Both cannot be compared to Killers...... NO FUCKING WAY !!!!!

  • As much as I like the killers, Joy Division have and will always have the better version. Oh and that guy is a retard Joy Division made it first :)

  • jajajajajajaja hjuice jajajaja you are a stupid and you don't know nothing about the music how can you say this?? joy division copy of the killers¡? jajajajajajajajajajajajajajaja you are lost

  • Hello !!!...The Killers born in 2002...Joy Division die in 1980. WAKE UP !!

  • HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA you're so fucking stupid

  • i was jjust playin !!!!!lol

  • brundontfreeze000 You can talk, yer thick cunt.

  • @louisorleans well, thank you : D

  • not to sound cheesy but - Joy Division is eternal for me.

when you meet others who love them as well, you know your on the same wavelength.

fuck its got something pure to it (not in the innocent sense though!)

  • I agree with you.

  • i agree!

  • @sherinone you couln't have said it better, friend..

  • Bernard Sumner's original name was Bernard Albrecht? Interesting...I've never heard that mentioned in any doc or bio ever.

  • Joy Division just gives me chills, I love it!

  • gary numan has the same dance

  • cant expalin how i feel when i hear JD all i can say is these so called bands of today cant even hold a stool sample to this pure genius

  • @heavydutydudes I feel the same way about Joy Division. I grew up listening to the best RnB and Soul voices. When I hear Ian it's like a spirtual experience and I feel like I'm in church as if the holy ghost enter my body....I'm not trying to be dramtic but his words and voice touche me deeply to the center of my core.....There are not alot of vocies that can do that in rock to me...RIP Ian and keep rocking New Order.

  • yeah yeah

  • memories in the 80`great song

  • fukin love it

  • q putos esos de la wmg por eso compro pirateria

  • SON LA VERGA SEEEE

  • bowie is most influential rock artist:)

  • damn right on that one

  • yeah

ian curtis is the best !

  • your mother's is worse

  • Today in an internet shop in Serey Sophon, Cambodia I have heard this song and others by Joy Division for the first time. What a great band with searing vocals by Ian Curtis.

  • Joy Division - simply irreplacable. Most influential band for the 20th and 21st century, Incredible

  • because your a shit face

  • haha, thats what u are, so stfu

  • no this is a valid question. don't give it a thumbs down, explain.

  • Either you are young or your a music novice.

  • because ur an idiot!

  • because you havent been looking in the right places

  • i like the shallowness of the killers one - its refreshing tho i do agree the joy division version is much better and i like that aggressively darker mood than the killers passive tribute

  • The Killers version is unlistenable. And I don't even dislike the Killers' music. It doesn't glide, it doesn't have the mood, it doesn't have "FOR THEIR OWN ENDS!!!" Hearing their version of Shadowplay over the end credits of "Control" was the worst part of that movie.

  • I'm happy for many bands today have Joy Division as their main influence! They are classy!

  • what version of shadowplay by jd are you on about they did so many all slightly different but capturing the atmosphere of the lyrics brilliantly its nice the killers paid their respect even though they turned a powerful song into merely a pop song

  • It's not paying respect. It's using Ian Curtis's talent to pad their pockets. There is a thin line between paying homage and exploitation. It's an easy way to get a good song and get paid...buy it and pass it off as your own. That's what untalented people do, especially to the dead who can't defend themselves.

  • thanks for your comment, all i can say there are countless bands who have done covers of the living and dead. i said i dislike killers version ,i'm also sure they were asked to do it

  • Great song, Great band!!!

  • fuck you agesixracer, this is great ! : )

  • tell me what you think about my band playing this song

  • amazing lyrics, not saying it like a fanboy, great song for the lonely people up there lol

  • Охуенно!!!!

  • boroloyal.. please die:)

  • dont u mean was your brother? haha

  • hahaxD

  • great moves of Curtis!

  • Lets recall what it means to be "pop" music. It typically translates to "popular" and "mainstream." Though its important to remember that talent and accessibility are not mutually exclusive. Also, though often correlated, deviance isn't synonymous with creativity.

Joy Division may not have reinvented a genre however they managed to crescendo to an influentially unique niche in the mainstream.

  • My favourite Joy Division song =)

  • This band got a lot done in the short time they had. Their music is actually pretty simple ( guitar riffs etc ) but it's so powerful.

  • I wouldn't say simple, its more element, it works on a raw, human power, not that different from their rivals The Fall

  • "and in fact many critics thought Joy Division were great because of of Ian Curtis. He made Joy Divison." Bullshit. The band would be nothing without all 4 members. Shadowplay in particular would be nothing without Sumner's guitar riffs.

  • Greatest Band ever:

    Richey Edwards (Manic Street Preachers)

    Robert Smith (The Cure)

    Johnny Marr (The Smiths)

    Steven Morris (Joy Division)

    Ian Curtis (Joy Division)

Yep two singers, but they are awsome.

Joy Division are so much better than New Order.

  • what do u mean 25 or 4 or 10

  • lennon? plant?

  • I know they are very talented but there not my fav musicians and there a bit mainstream as well, the band members that i chose are good but not huge names like lennon or plant.

  • One the Killers are ok BUT Joy Division is legendary and RIP Ian C who great singing gives the words life, I dont know what critics are and whoever they are they can f off music is about

    the individual freedom and feeling!

  • this is a class song people should just stop commenting if they think its shit, watch videos you like, stop shitting on other peoples enjoyment

  • Peter Hook looks like he's going for the Sid Vicious image a little bit

    haha

  • ps i listened to hot fuzz when i was 17 and it was shite then and things dont change that much.

  • Pity that's not even the name of the album, 'ey?

  • @ConfessorEX Hot Fuss then, cunt

  • I dont understand please speak a language we can all understand. I bet your living in that MOR world where flowers grow out of U2's arses.

  • S e a n e l l n

  • seen control the movie, i grew up with Joy.... great emotions... great pain indeed... thanks Ian for all I've always felt listening to ur voice...

  • how is anyone coming to this link and talking about the killers? really? set yourself on fire.

  • here here,here here!!never a truer word spoken!fucking phillistines!

  • I think the Killers's Shadowplay is amazing.Like this.

    Don't compare.

  • the killers are great one of my favorite bands at the moment but anyone who says that the killers cover of the awesome Joy Division is in anyway better than the original should listen to a better class of music not some AMERICAN Mainstream original wannabe and listen to the original northern BRITISH post punk classic band and not just shadowplay

  • The killers are a sellout mainstream band in it for the money,

    Joy division were about music

  • Its pretty cool you know that just by assuming because they're popular.

  • no, im going on how they always 'reinvent' themselves all the time, not that theres nothing wrong with that but they bring out albums that only have one or two actually good songs on just to get them in the charts and make some money. The only good thing they've done was Hot Fuss, there songs now days are shit and lack creativity, 'are we human or are we dancer' are not some of the most meaningful lyrics ive heard, there nothing compared to the music joy division played and the lyrics ian wrote.

  • Actually i think it is "are we human or are we denser?". The song is about unplugging someone who's in a coma.

Probably the "dancer" resemblance is a play on words

  • dancer isnt used like that. it isnt used as a noun.

  • no they are just a very diverse group that can play many styles. and just because some songs are more popular doesnt make them better. go and listen to the whole album and decide for yourself.

p.s. i dont hate joy division i just think the killers are better.

  • So you're the one who's mainstream then, you only listen to their 'popular' songs.

Some of the less popular songs are much better and have very touching lyrics?

Have you heard 'Replaceable'? They didn't even release that song, because he didn't think it was good enough, but it's fantastic.

    Get your shit right.

  • haa, dont take it all so seriously,

    calm yourselves.

its about time everyone stopped talking about the killers on this video anyway

  • "its about time everyone stopped talking about the killers on this video anyway"

Although that'd be great, its unfortunately not very likely to happen. It's the kind of thing that moronic, arrogant teenagers LOVE to do on videos like this, featuring a great classic song that's been covered by some mediocre johnny-come lately artist.

  • It's funny, b/c I am a big fan of JD. But I've never thought of comparing them to the Killers...I"m not a big Killers fan b/c I've always thought they seemed to mainstream and unoriginal . But that my taste, I'm not trying to insult any Killers fans, it's just my view. JD is unique and different....you hear a JD song and recognise it right away and enjoy it......Killers...I could go somewhere where they are playing and not even pause to hear the song.....

  • i love ian's dance moves

  • Never, but never compare any band with JoyDivision. they're unique!

  • Yes, fucken yes. No one can recreate their unique sound. JD r one n only.

  • never ever ever ever....compare Joy Division to The Killers.....NO IF's And's What's about it. Joy Division is Legend will always be.
