  • Don't want to get into the Bonnie vs Linda diatribe below, not healthy.

  • With a thousand years practice and a lot more talent she might just come close to singing this song half as well as Linda

  • beautful.........

  • The one and only Bonnie Raitt.. I find it hard to find someone that can sing heartbreak better than BR. Of course it is a fantastically beautifully crafted song! What a treat....this is why I love Youtube so much

  • This is pretty moving stuff -

  • I heard this for the very first time on this video and although thompson does a great job ,Bonnie kept me captivated with her voice and guitar skills because she is one of the few true entertainers..When you can accompany yourself, it is true magic.. I don't have to hear anyon else sing this.. I know she does it better, time and time again..She steps up and is like fine wine ...just keeps getting better with time ....

  • For those who complain or say one version is better than another. It's called taste and knowledge.

  • Wow - great.

  • I normally Like everything Bonnie Raitt does ,but not this one guys sorry she's just not Linda Thompson.....

  • Bloody hell this is good

  • of all the great versions of this song, this is my fave

  • As the air takes on an autumn chill, we begin to spend more time indoors and reflect on life and changes, make time for family and friends and its not always so pretty like a movie, people out their suffer through seperation and lonliness. I especially like songs such as this little gem, "The Dimming of the Day" sung by Bonnie Raitt and the writer himself Richard Thompson, gives meaning to lifes struggles and victories. excellent song.

  • More smiles than usual from Richard.

  • Pure class.

  • and Freebo is still around! Look him up. He has a great career these days as a solo folk artist!

  • perfect

  • Wow two best favorites together in an impeccibly touching performance? Unbelievable, and one of my favorite songs from Richard. Love it!!!

  • Fabulous! I had the pleasure of seeing Bonnie with her old band (remember Freebo?) in Cambridge, MA, back in the 70s, and likewise discovered Richard around that time, saw him in a few venues there. Two of the very best, together. Now -- add Loudon to the mix!

  • WOW!!!

  • OMG! If there is a heaven, when I get to the pearly gates I want St. Peter to say, come on in, RIchard and Bonnie are over there, just warmin' up ....

  • Oh Bonnie and Richard....could this favorite possibly ever be more touching than in this performance? Thanks for posting this.

  • WOW ! 2 of the best and one of my all time favorite tunes. Thanks for the post.

  • A million thanks for posting this!

I've never heard Bonnie sing it better. Obviously, having the composer behind her was inspiring rather than daunting.

For those who don't know, the song is a Richard Thompson composition - ipso facto a masterpiece!
