  • you da man!!! aloha!!

  • Yellow LedBetter - Pearl Jam, not 'just' Eddie Vedder :)

  • @lprockz13 Actually not any Eddie Vedder other than the fantastic and indiscernible singing. This is one of Mike McCready's greatest showcases and yes one of his greatest showings of influence from Hendrix. And the whole "I dont think they played it the same way every time live..", clearly Marty isn't very well versed in PJ since they are pretty well known for playing that song different every time including the lyrics. What an amazing live band. Great lesson though.

  • @AL1547 yeah, he said they play the thing different every time live at the end guy.

  • marty what do i do if I'm just not as cool as you??? :)

  • Thanks for the tutorial. I'm an "old" man (44) just learning to play. I have a long way to go, as my stubby fingers point in the all the wrong directions, but I can see thing slowly improving. This will give me another goal to reach. Maybe if I break my pinky and have it reset straighter. :-)

  • thank you so much for this tutorial :) when you play it, it seems easy, buh actually it ain't easy at all :( i need to do my "magic" and get changed some stuff to really do it ahahhaha you're a guitar machine dude :) my sincerely thanks for u bro :'3

  • Dude, thanks...

  • Holy crap. You just made me play riffs on my guitar I never thought I would be able to do, thanks dude.

  • Man thanks u rock great lessons, easy to understand, love the lil humor also

  • dude, love you. Learn Scar Tissue from you and as soon as I saw this I almost crapped myself.

  • "pinky time ! "

  • @stenash5 it leaves your pinky free to do stuff lol

  • great bro , just... you divert waaay to much!

  • Marty! You the boss! Keep it up man!!

  • Not just a great guitarist... a great teacher also! thanks

  • put CC translation on and go to 05:35 "Condom Meditation" LOL

  • 03:50 i think you meant 9th fret :P

  • Muy bueno. Felicitaciones!

  • bom mas tira esse chapel

  • Awesome lesson mate, Thanks heaps. I've loved that song and wanted to know how to play it for ages. Great work.

  • The joke about Hendrix is probably what prompted the Pearl Jam Fans to hit "dislike" lol.....You know Pearl Jam fans don't be playin.....

  • This Dude Rocks!

  • why are you calling the 9th fret the 7th fret

  • Hey Marty thanks ! Can you teach us Temple of the Dog " Say hello 2 Heaven" I love that song ! Thank you ! Keep on truck'in!

  • Marty rocks! Thanks, Marty for passing on your knowledge and helping us to improve our skills. You are a great teacher and a great guitarist!

  • Marty....you are amazing !!! Thank you for another great lesson !!!

  • Great lesson.

  • great job. been wanting to learn this but just dont have the time to sit down and pick it out. thanks the a simple break down.

how about doin a lesson for extreme whole hearted. not one vid on here for that is helpful and its a pain in the fargin arse to pick it out!

  • marty you rule!!!!(:

  • Why are there dislike buttons in Youtube? If you don't like something, don't watch it. I can't imagine how somebody would dislike this... He explains a song to those guys who want to learn it and does a great job (as always). Thanks for that!

  • @StJohnGercoe Maybe they didn't like his hat? I like his hat. XP

  • I believe that the dislike option/button helps search engine to distinguish between good videos and crap. Sadly It does not really accomplish that. I click LIKE on all Martys videos by default and I like this 1 a LOT :)

  • @StJohnGercoe "If you don't like something don't watch it" umm, How do you know if you like something or not unless you watch it?

  • @StJohnGercoe I agree...Most of these people who dislike are punks....

  • @StJohnGercoe Hmm. For people who didn't see this guy before don't know what to expect. This guy might be good, but there are also bullshit people uploading lessons that don't make sense. So, dislike it.

  • @StJohnGercoe its for stupid irrelevant comments like yours!

  • Wow, great lesson! Had fun. I think I have some good speakers on this computer because your guitar sounds great. Liked everything, closeups and all. This song makes even better sense now to play. Great explanation. Thank you for the lesson and upload.

  • Thank you Marty for you endless generosity!

  • i wonder why is eddie's name in the title???

  • you sir are amazing, you are such a helpful teacher and explain everything very well keep rockin.

  • Killer instruction bro! Thanks for touching on the theory behind it and for demonstrating all the potential for improvisation on this one. Very well done and much appreciated! Had it in five minutes thanks to you! Cheers :)

  • Hey Marty I was wondering if you could do a puddle of mudd song called control? I have been wanting to learn how to play it.

  • @TheTruebloodvampire Good band. Your comment reminded me of guitar one magazine I had. It has the song. It's tuned half step down, drop "D" tunning DADGBE. Strum the DAD strings open a few times (D5) then carry on to F5, E5, back open to D5, then strum ADG (C5) a few times, back to D5 , G5, F5, repeat. To tighten up the power chord sound, mute the middle string of the chord. The bridge ( muted area of song, is D,A strings C5, D5, F5, E5 at end. Then release the mute and play.

  • @aaa567ify Reply cont; Mostly C5, D5 palm mute D5 PM twice, C5 D5, PM D5, PM twice then F5. There' some lead fills on the D G strings. I know,... bad guitar lesson on comment page. But hopefully it's some help to hear the beginning of song. It helps to just have fun playing along with Puddle of Mud's album and getting used to the power chords. Hope this helps a little. Have fun.

  • Bullshit!!! your GOOOD Man!!!! thanx for this.. this might take 6months for me to practice.. i have short fingers.. and tires easily..

  • pinkyyyyyyyyyyyy time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ok first of all, youre a great guitar player and teacher, but i would recomend a better camera or amp, cause yours sound crappy. no disrespect intended, i just think such a great player deserves better quality equiptment.

  • Hey, Marty'z songs.... dude your cool as heck!! :) But no really, your patient and show all parts! I appreciate this greatly!! And you pick great songs man! I love your sound,.. your style,... and your teachings,...!!! may GOD bless you! and thanks for making it simple for us simpletons just begining man!

  • Apart from teaching a great tune that lesson had so many great little hints, I now get the inversion thing. Thank you.

  • hey can you make a vid on how to play question by the old 97's?

  • do you teach in person?

  • best song

  • amazing!! hello from mexico!!!

you have a good timing and rythm!! sorry for muy bad english but.. i dont care!!! i only want to say thanks for the lesson!!

  • You noodle and show off too much. Just teach the lesson. It's easy for you, but if you are going to teach, go step by step. For a beginner you leave out a lot of detail. Oh and loose the stupid trendy hat.

  • @santaeasterbunny YOU DONT EVER MAKE FUN OF MARTY!!!!! lol, but naw, we all have our own styles of teaching and if you cant deal with his, then find another

  • awesome lesson

  • great lesson, u r a good teacher. can you teach us how to play the solo of come back by pearl jam?

  • awesome teacher! so clear and concise!

    cheers bro!

  • can you show us how to play the cheech and chong save the whales song?

  • 5:30 PINKY TIME HAHAHAHA

  • Question: how do you get that sound? What people don't usually cover is what amp, what effects, type of guitar, pickups and which ones are select. Many thanks in advance. Oh and great job Marty

  • @JimAndMichele Finding the sound is half of the fun! I will tell you McCready used his strat for the recording. Seeing as how Marty didn't use a strat for this you can tell there is some leeway to getting a similar sound.

  • I watched this video over a year ago and thought hey, this is a cool song. Just a day ago i heard it for the first time on the radio and was hooked and then what do you know... here it is!

  • marty how long have you been playin?

  • Thank You Man for all Lessons You're a excellent teacher

  • i always wonder what he is lookin at its like he is a cop about to start an interrogation... but yeah bong hits to you im learnin this shit now til i gots it

  • whats a ledbetter? and can they be other colors? i really like the cadence of this guys teaching.

  • probably my favorite song to play.

  • marty looks stoned

  • 17 ppl are yello

  • your amazing

  • Not sure if it's already been mentioned but, there's a good reason it sounds like Hendrix. This was Mike McCready's tribute to Jimi. It was his "Little Wing"

  • great lesson, my favourite teacher - keep burnin' em

  • good teacher... thanks!

  • when i heard this song i never thought i would be able to play it but thanks to marty he made seem so easy and clear THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE Jimi Hendrix and I LOVE Pearl Jam but, me personally, when i first heard this song it reminded me of Stevie ray vaughn's version of little wing.

  • thank you thank you thank you sir. well done indeed

  • the first time i heard this song, i had just got into pearl jam. i put both cds of the review mirror greatest hits on my mp3 player and skipped this song all the time cause id never heard of it before untill one night i was almost asleep and listened to it without looking at it and totally thought it was Jimi Hendrix untill Eddie came in and ive loved the song ever since. :)

  • give us part 2!!!!

  • thanks for posting this. this song is such a pain in the ass to learn cause (like you said) mike mccready never plays it the same way twice during concerts. he's always improvising here and there, so it's difficult to learn by watching concert dvds.

  • Awesome - Thanks Marty!

  • what tuning is this in? standard? i have a classical and i'm confused

  • @MissusFingerBottom yup it's standard tuning.

  • @MissusFingerBottom

Yes, Yellow Ledbetter is in standard tuning :)

  • one of the best riffs ever! i hope i can reach this stage

  • Thumbs up for a lesson on interstate love song by STP

  • Great Lesson Marty - for the first time I understood what was going on. A BIG THANK YOU!

  • @rcboatdriver1234

haha what are you talking about?!? Way to change the subject....Pearl Jam is an incredibly talented and very much underrated band...go listen to your justin beiber crap. This music is for people who listen to music because its good, not because its popular.

  • thanx again marty ur the fucking best

  • thanks a lot :D

  • Not the first time I heard someone say that this song was "the best Jimi Hendrix Cover", whatsup with that.
