Was looking for this song for quite a while. I first heard it back in late at night in 84 on Kiss FM when Red Alert or The Latin Rascals were mixing it. Such a great song.
I agree with the people here saying that these were the days of real hip hop. I just cant relate to most of the new stuff out there. Maybe i am just old though.
This is some shit that most people don't know anything about nowadays. Simply CLASSIC!!! This joint helped define hip hop music for the rest of the '80's and onward.
There was no one greater at this than Doug E. Fresh!!! I grew up listening 2 these old school joints, no disrespect to the new cats out today, but beatboxing may seem played out to alot of people but it's an art form that has been forgoten by most. Most of all, this dude's a pioneer in hip hop music. BIG UP!!!!
Damn. This takes me waaaaay back during the break dancing days before crack exploded on to the streets. Every Saturday night in NYC I listened to DJ Red Alert on 97 Kiss FM. I don't listen to rap anymore but I used to love them old skoolers. Doug, thanks for the memories. Great upload, man.
Doug was more than good he was fresh. Doug was so talented he did the beat box with the harmonica. He was more than good. No one move the crowd like doug.
@DaveEnsor I dont think it's a sample. he had someone play guitar on 'Play This Only At Night" also, and I think it's the same person. He thanked him on the album credits from "Oh, My God!"
I like this cut. I still think Doug E Fresh was alot better when he was with Slick Rick. though their relationship splintered they were great together.
