  • #FTW

  • great movie and sound, perfect work. Greet DCR

  • some beautiful drifting and high speed camera work here. what do u think will be the effects of toe-in/out and camber angles on the mini-z awd? your motor is stock from kyosho too? thanks.

  • this i supah cool

  • dude that looks sick

  • so i downloaded enya's only time and man, do they ever go together. well edited man, it definitly lost some impact

  • Thanks! The Enya version is still available - a Google search for "Rumination on the Dynamics of Drifting" will find both the YouTube and the original version.

The choreography was the main feature of the original video, so although this new song is decent, it has no relation to the scene changes.

  • This music sounds fine too. Good camera angles! 5*

  • excelent video!

  • Nicee !!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE this vid!! and the music is awesome!!!

  • wow i need to get some of these mini z's i never heard of them and what song is this

  • where can i get one

  • Here are some sources for Mini Zs:

    - eBay

    - Atomic Mods

    - RC Kenon

    - Marty's Hobbies

Used AWD cars are about $100, new ones are closer to $160.

  • and i find it hard drifting with the AWD

  • With AWD the tail will kick out when you lift off the throttle rather than with RWD where you squirt the power for tail out action. After that you'll need to manage the power and steering to keep it out, but the initial lift of while turning will get the back out :)

  • this was in reply to LifeRunner4000

  • i have the whole series of mini-z's boats,cars. cars:MR-01,MR-02,Formula 1,AWD,Overland and monster...

  • i have seen this video before but now the music has changed... the enya song fitted better to this vid but this new song still kicks ass... what's the song title?

  • I apparently violated copyright and both the CEO of Warner Music Group and Enya are now out of business and begging for change on freeway off ramps. They cut out the original music, so I replaced it with this track, which was available from the YouTube music library. I forgot the name of the song, but it turned out reasonable. If you miss the other version of the video with Enya, it's available on Vimeo under the same title.

  • its good and so r mini z kyosho but its all to nerdy [no offence] and to expensive [120£ for a deacent model!!] so thanks but il stick with my q-steer

  • rofl Q-steer made by Tomy isnt it? well Mini Z prices depends where you are , im in Canada and it cost about 150$CDN so 120$US ...

  • Yep, awesome... !

  • where do you get those tiny ass cones?!

  • I made the cones from cut-out pieces of an orange folder. You can similarly use orange construction paper for making cones from two pieces of paper.

Cut a sector of a donut-shaped piece of orange paper and roll it into a conical shape. Tape the ends together to keep in in place, then attach the wide end to a square base piece. Round the corners of the base paper and get back to drifting.

  • does any one know were i can a mini z cheap in kansas whichita

  • impressive.

  • Sorry, nothing new since this.

Here's the original "Rumination on the Dynamics of Drifting":

    vimeo-dot-com/3009373

We have planned a 1982 Chevy van drifting/jumping video, a rally racing duel, and a micro helicopter chase scene. All those projects are dormant awaiting motivation.

  • I didnt mind the audio. Do you have any more slo mo mini z videos?

  • power sliding

  • Boycott WMG buy refusing to buy their shit and stealing it instead.

There is no way that this video infringed on their ability to make money.

  • that song is the shit!!! nice video !! i love the slow motion..... 5 stars

  • 1:56-2:10....skills

  • These are the best camera angles I have seen!!

  • The music to this video has been changed due to a copyright claim by WMG. I substituted a track from YouTube's audio archive, but I am afraid that the video has lost much of its original appeal and aesthetics.

  • Real good

great angles and focus on this video ;)

  • the song is enya-only time.

  • what is this song?

  • awesome!!!just awesome!!!did you have to make any modifications in order to drift?or is it like that out of the box?

  • It drifts like this out of the box. See my latest video for a broader view of some race drifting. The guys who race with me have made a series of modifications to their chassis and suspension, but truthfully I have yet to find a setup that drifts more elegantly than the stock setup with narrow drift tires.

I find that the standard chassis with the Skyline body has an excellent combination of maneuverability during steer angle inputs and yaw insensitivity to sideslip at neutral steer.

  • hey buddy looks like u put electrical tape on rims nice one

  • nice drifting :D

  • yeah!!!!awd!!

  • thats freaking beautiful

  • what kind of tires are you using?

  • Kyosho-brand 8mm (narrow) drift tires on all four wheels. The drift tires are hard plastic with no tread, unlike the typically soft-rubber Mini-Z wheels. They seem to work well on carpet and various hard surfaces, although they become quite scuffed if used on hard, rough surfaces like concrete.

  • is it possible to take those stickers off?

  • That was amazing!!

  • what do yo use for the carpet or what ever cause i just got an impreza AWD and i want to know ho to build a track

  • The carpet is the standard office variety, relative smooth and without much irregularity. It is the same type shown in the other Mini Z racing videos.

For building a track, consider buying several lengths of garden-variety hoses (sorry), cutting off the threaded ends, and applying adhesive velcro in loops around the hose at intervals. The hose can be made into smooth curves for an organic track barrier and the velcro helps keep it attached to the carpet.

  • thanks for the help

  • i like ur work dude!?

make another one...,with opponent..to make it look better.....

  • What music is this

  • The way you did the video is just fantastic. I'm just writing to say thank's for images like that.

  • Incredible video, loved the slow mo effects. Could you do one with a say, 350Z? That'd look so amazing.

  • This is a great video. Outstanding camera-work, editing, musical taste, and driving coming together make something truly beautiful happen here for those that might understand a word like passion. I fuckin' teared up man.

  • thats friggin sweet

  • Eres el mejor, vaya video... perfecto!!

  • can you tell witch script you are using off the hv20 ultra smooth slowmotion forum page.

And if you still have the .avs file could you please drop it into notepad and message me the script or something?

    great video.

ur a mad crazy driver at that thing.

really good quality too. what was your delivery format.?

    thanks man.

    -Miles

  • Miles, I just sent you the script. Note that I'm using DGEdit to index the .m2t file and then import the indexed .d2v file with MPEG2Source(). LeakkernelBob is used for the deinterlacing then the rest is the standard motion reconstruction from the MVTools help menu. Several other examples are available in the documentation.

  • could i skip all those steps if i try and apply the script to SD video rather than HD?

    and thanks again.

  • The only step that you can skip is the DGEdit, which allows AVISynth to read the HDV files. If you are editing with SD (AVI), you can import the file in the first line of the script, deinterlace if necessary, then run the motion reconstructor of MVtools. It takes a while and several programs to setup, but the results are quite good.

  • I already have avi synth and virtual dub as well as mvtools. Ive been doing frame interpolation for about 4 weeks now. I can use hd if its necessary. so is there anything i have to take out of the script? probably the part about dg index.

YEYE i bought the hv20 too!:)

  • Vidéo agréable à regarder...

    Belles trajectoires...

    Belle musique...

    Montage sympa...

    Bref, Bon boulot...Chapeau

  • The quality of this video is excellent.. what codec/bitrate/settings did you use? My stuff does not look this good!

  • Lance, I'm using the XVid codec in Blender 2.45 with a Bitrate of 6000 and a GOP size of 5. The output dimensions are 960x54. Let me know if you want to see the original output, since it looks much nicer than the Youtube version. The artifacting is still there, but I'm happy with this for now.

Your own drifting videos are excellent, the ice racing shots are beautiful.

  • "My next project may be a Peugeot 206 rally video..." Mini-power used to make 206 bodies for the z way way back

  • really great vid boy, awesome art.

  • awsome! wayy better than kyosho's AD's mind sharing ur drift setup?

  • I am using the stock AWD Mini Z setup with Kyosho narrow drift tires on the stock rims. It works extremely well for both small track drifting and for large-featured tracks.

  • The Drifting Idea was brilliant!! Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 $100!! Send me message!!

  • pretty cool video... love it... how were you able to slow it down? i would have really like to have seen a rally car doing all those drifts....

  • The slow motion effect is done using the high frame rate of the HV20 (60 frames per second interlaced) and adding an extra frame between each, for 120 frames per each actual second. When you play back at 25 or 30 frames per second in the final video, it looks like 1/4-speed slow motion, which is perfect to capture the beauty of drifting.

My next project may be a Peugeot 206 rally video, but since I don't yet have the model, I'm open to suggestions.

  • Awesome vid! Car looks super scale and the camera angles are great - best R/C drifitng video I've seen on YouTube so far. Them little Mini-Z's are sure freaking awesome!
