This piece states the art! (Jobim - DeMoraes) Stan Getz (ts) Luiz Bonfa (g) Antonio Carlos Jobim (p) George Duvivier and Tommy Williams (b) Paulo Ferreira and Jose Carlos (d) Maria Toledo (vo) Rec. Feb. !963 in N.Y. Many thanks for the atmospheric film clip.
The sax melody that starts at 1:37 until about 1:53 is sooooo catchy. I've heard other versions of this song that I like just as much, but even when I listen to them I'm mentally inserting this bit - the song just isn't the same without it.
@sonicgear777 Maria Toledo was the singer. This album, entitled "Jazz Samba Encore," featured Getz, Toledo, and the magical talent of the finest guitarist that Brazil has ever produced, Luis Bonfa!
@marcobagut It is Maria Toledo singing. The cut is from the Stan Getz album "Jazz Samba Encore" (1963), with both Luiz Bonfa and Antonio Carlos Jobim also appearing.
it's an italian film followed by a brazilian music. I love both, the film and the song. I don't like so much the sax. It's too strong for the music. This is bossa nova: samba dressed by jazz. I don't like jazz, but bossa nova ...
Magnifico esse video! insensatez cantado pela grande Maria Toledo e la notte como sfondo! precisa dizer mais alguma coisa? grandes tempos, grande musica, grande cinema! saudades de uma coisa que nao existe mais! purtroppo!
if you want to seduce a woman then play her this song and then when you want to take her to bed play je t'aime mon non plus by serge gainsbourg and jane birkin. bingo!!!!!
The sax is definitely the greatest tenor sax player ever, Stan Getz, who I was lucky enough to see just before hepassed away. I saw him in a small jazz joint on Broward Blvd in Ft Lauderdale Fl. His solo intrumental is the best along with Tom Jobims live performance
@buneybune Maria Helena Toledo, 1937-2010, not to be confused with the spanish singer, Maria Toledo. This song can be had on Jazz Samba Encore with Getz and Bonfa, at Amazon. A sample of this track is available there.
If I'm not mistaken, the singer is not Astrud Gilberto, but Maria Creusa. Others good versions of this song that can be found on Youtube are interpreted by Alaide Costa and Nara Leao (make a search). By the way, there are many versions, including Shirley Bassey and Judy Garland. In my opinion the best version still instrumental, the original by Tom Jobim (the composer). Elis Regina has her version, but unfortunately, it is in English and in my opinion she cant sing well in English.
This is the perfect song for someone that his been married more than once, an is no longer in love with a person that has a obsession an will not let go....
Question: Does anyone know who is woman who sings this wonderful song she has an amazing voice but I don't know her name. If anyone know the name of the singer please let me know. Thanks!
This match up was made by another poster, but was deleted. If you know the original poster's name, can you put it up?
That poster also did a match up of scenes from Bardot's film "Et Dieu créa la femme" and the Getz/Gilberto version of "Girl From Ipanema." See a repost of it here under te name: "The Girl from Ipanema Brigitte Bardot vs Getz Gilberto."
@hughmackie I remember this, he did a ton of video/song mash ups, as in 100+. i looked for him, but couldn't find him either. maybe his account was suspended.

Based on the cast, I think the movie is 'La Notte' - by Michelangelo Antonioni. Stars Jeanne Moreau, Marcello Mastroianni and Monica Vitti.

The singer is Italian, called , Mina, I believe. Though I like Astrud's version, her voice is not this rich, or haunting.
