i have a 73 nova with a 355 with about 425 horse with 410 gears and 275 60 15s drag radials..never took it to the track ...what do you guys think it'll go ???
damn, who cares about the horsepower numbers. anyone else see that torque curve on the dyno? It was more of a vertical climb rather than a curve. I'd bet that car could really glue your ass back in the seat.
+10 for that observation, ariel4more! That's exactly the sort of things to consider when building a Street/Strip car. Torque is the seat-of-you-pants feel you get tooling around town. Engine is a 383-Stroker (a.k.a. Stump-Puller), 373 rear and Th350 automatic with a kickdown cable. Cruising at 55-mph at 3100-rpm, kick in the passing gear and be right in the sweet spot of the torque curve. Then it upshifts back into third gear and you're pushing 110-mph...but you didn't hear that from me :-)
that's a small block? Hell yeah man. I someday plan to build a 383 put in a 3rd gen camaro or bird. Do you have any advise for the most bang for your buck?
Yeah - It's a Jasper 383 Stroker. I bought it as a long block for $3400 and added everything else. Youtube doesn't like replies that contain links - Goto CARDOMAIN dot COM and search for my ride number - 851350. Page-3 has all my mods.
I recently read an article about a 450 horse 350 for $3500. The price for a shortblock was 300 bucks, but they needed machine work done. About how much money do you have in your engine? Also, what is your E/T in the 1/4 mi.? I'll have to check out the site you gave. If I had the time to look for and restore a 60's or 70's car I'd go for a Chevelle, Nova, GSX, or Tempest. But since it would be much easier to find, I'd probablly go for a 3rd gen. Camaro or Firebird.
It's hard to say -- I tried different things (still not finished), but you can easily get 425-hp small block crate engine ready to go for about $5000+. Check Jasper or Summit Racing for any crate engine. You know the old saying? Speed cost -- How fast do you want to go? But remember - don't sacrifice reliability. My best ET was 12.08 seconds at 110-mph. Easter Sunday in the staging lanes with snow flurries and air temp about 38-degrees. Summer time the car will usually hover in the mid 12s.
I've posted a 'video response' here of me breaking out with a 12.20 pass on a 12.32 dial in. You can see the rest of my videos by clicking on the "From: tkrahlin" link to the right of the video screen.
bigO00mustang, it's so cool to see guys your age into Muscle Cars. I'm 54-years old and had a 72 Nova SS in 1972 when I was 18. I sold it when I started buying playpens and strollers. I found this one 3-years ago and now I'm doing what I wanted to do back in the day. Hence the name I gave the car "Love Me Two Times".
I think youtube took my replies down because they contain the link to my cardomain page. Goto CARDOMAIN dot COM and search for my ride number - 851350. Page-3 has all my mods.
Did it lose nearly 100lb/ft through the transmission,?
I notice the flywheel torque was 500, the RW torque was 401? is top gear an overdrive is that why or was it slipping? meaning u have more power than that quoted?
I love the look of ur car, beutiful sleek lines, mmm.
Dam! just remembered I live in UK, petrol $9 a gallon equivilant, bah. for a twisted reason I prefer the look of US cars when rough/ rusty! which is handy, cos I'm poor!!
