I am a Saulteaux First Nation from SK. And my grandfather used to sing this to us kids. He recently passed away and my aunty found this song for me to listen to. I am very greatful this is very soothing to my soul : )
Thank-you for posting! I love Native American music, always have. It's always stirred something really powerful within as @tattooyou has said; and music that does this has the power to unify and collapse superficial boundaries between us all, helping us to perhaps have a tiny glimpse of something divine. Beautiful. ♥
if the words dont touch your spirit....I truly believe you must be lacking something. You dont need to be First Nation to appreciate the beauty of this prayer.
Boozhoo, i am from Chippewa of the Thames First Nation in Ontario. i love being Ojibwa! the strongest tribe around megwetch for posting this song i love it
Don't have any Native blood in me, but I love their music and culture. I have the utmost respect for the Natives and I wish the gov't here in Canada would give the Natives the respect and recognition they deserve. By the way, I love near a park named after the Ojibwe tribe.
My husband, whom has passed on, belonged to the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe in Minnesota. My daughter and I have learned some of the language, mostly names of snow and animals. We lived on his reservation for ten years before he died. I am Cherokee, but was born and raised in Arizona. Thank you for putting this video together, it brings a tear to my eye and reminds me of my husband. The pictures are beautiful.
I am of Chippewa blood, my father is registered in the tribe. Looking at me you could never tell. I am very light and have blond hair. I do have some native features high cheek bones, a slight curve of my eyes, My hair grows like crazy. I was raised white, and have not had any contact with the native part of my family. I never go around boasting about my native ancestery like you see a lot of white kids doing lately. I do feel like I missing a part of me. There is something untapped.
It's always nice to hear someone singing with exceptional tone and timing (without screaming). Let's keep out old traditional songs alive, so our upcoming generations will know that our ancestors always acknowledged and maintained their special place in creation...!
Ojibway Chippewa i am both of my adoptedd parents are both white they think they understand or they think i'm crazy when i believe i hear voices singing when i hear the wind and water rushing through...i am proud to be who i am they can suck it if they dont appreciate who iam or else why did they adopt me in the first place?
i am 1/4 chippewa and something also stirs me inside when i listen to this song it's like i know it from somewhere but this is thie first time i heard of it!
@TheNjkm11 Don't get caught up in fractions. Even though I was born on the Rez, I thought I was "3/8" for a long time. Until I realized that that couldn't be if my Dad was full blood and my Mom was half. The agencies decreed us far less in order to give us less benefits (as if they gave us that much in the first place).Who are they to tell us "how much" native we are. If you've live the life(meaning; do you feel out of touch with the modern world) then what "part" native are you?
@KellysCArmel0ne "Just buy a flute and start playing with it." I put off the flute for most of my life until an Elder told me that same thing. Practice ascending and descending the scales, and remember that in order to get different sounds you need to get several sizes of flutes. If you want to practice without dragging your instrument around, buy a recorder or penny whistle. That way you don't have to worry about your flute getting damaged.
The 'boozho' greeting comes from a legend. When Nanaboozho left the People for the spirit world, he promised he would return. Now when someone is greeted with 'boozho' they are asking, "Are you Nanaboozho returned?"
An Anishnabe Elder, Veronica Medicine, taught me this.
@tattooyou I find this song very insperational and moving, my wife and stepchildren are Ojibwe, my brother Tall Tree Man is Ojibwe we look for song to sing and drum with in Lodges and healing cerimonies, I was wanting to know the meaning of this prayer it is beautiful, Thank you Calling Eagle Man, Red Deer Alberta
@callingeagleman i agree this Ojibwe song is very insperatsionaland moving good thinking and thanks for comme3nting on this :) <3 <3 <3 your ideas!!!!!
@tattooyou yeah its really nice. i am from canada and I think its very nice. Meegwetch! haha i probly butchard that word. cree, ojibwe is not my language. Tansii! lol i suck.
@dliteoflife i was taught that boozho comes from naniboozho which is a very famous character in many ojibwe stories. these stories date back to long before the french came here to michigan.
i am glad you went ahead with the song, i was listning to it yesterday in the bus going to hospital it gives me strenth and courage, your video is also good :) i never tire of this song
