@aaaaaaaaaaaaaanthony a chain is when you use the pokeradar to encounter a specific pokemon over and over again. If you reach a chain of 40 of the same pokemon then you can reset for the radar over and over again in hopes of finding a shiny patch, which will contain a shiny pokemon version. Do you have diamond/pearl or platinum?

I remember finding a Shiny Happiny in Trophy Garden by utter mistake. The patch didn't even glow when I ran into it, and when the battle opened up i thought to myself-- " hey, that happiny looks a little dif--"

Thanks and yup, not much difference. Congrats on your lucky shiny cubone. My luckiest was a chain 0 bibarel in a non-shiny patch aside from random encounters in the wild. I got a shiny buizel once after a chain of 1, but I never thought that I'd get it at 0.

no, you have a chance of a pokemon being shiny every time you run into one. this pokeradar method just increases the chance, and once it the chain gets to 40, that's the maximum chance.

u get scyther on route 229 and u can get only in diamond, to evolve scyther, u trade him while he is holding the meatl coat, which u can get from the house on iron island after u get the national pokedex

If you have the poke radar you should also have that feature. Go to the pal park at the end of route 221 and professor Oak will give it to you.

You can't just make it shiny, unless you want to cheat and use an AR. You have to work for it or you just happen to get really lucky by hatching/encountering a bunch of pokemon or doing a ton of soft resets in front of a legendary. The odds of finding a shiny with the methods I mentioned are 1 in 8192. When chaining, you can lower the odds to 1 in 200 when you reach a chain of 40.

Certain pokemon abilities such as, storm drain, cute charm, static, magnet pull, swarm, etc., allows you to have a higher percentage of encounters depending on the type of pokemon you are trying to chain. The "Swarm ability" allow you to have a higher percentage rate of encountering bug type pokemon.

My girlfriend and I have actually caught a shiny pokemon after chain 1 without having to reset the radar. Just by luck the shiny patch came out right after the first battle. The odds of that happening is around 1 in 8000 just like a random shiny. And I've caught many below 10, 20, 30, 40. I've even caught one after a chain of 120. I'll send you the video of that. A shiny patch can appear after any chain. It just depends on how lucky you are at that moment, so be on the look out.

Yeah, Scyther can only be chained on Diamond. If you have Pearl, you can chain Pinsir in the same route.

No, not really, but yeah, "swarm". I used Beedrill, but there are probably other pokemon that have that ablity. Certain pokemon abilities allow you to encounter pokemon that you're chaining at a higher percentage rate. Swarm allows you to encounter more bug type pokemon. Let me know if you have any questions. Yeah, depending of what you have accomplished in the game, you'll receive a star along with a card color change each time. The maximum is 5 stars black.
