  • Sir Ian Anderson and the Minstrels of Invention............like someone else said...

    England's Frank Zappa.

  • The tune in 1:44 - 2:53 and 4:03 - 4:55 is a classic example of how Ian Anderson in many of his songs is able to capture medieval / old english melody like no other contemporary musician / song writer

  • Robin Hood played acoustic bass. Little known fact.

  • @Ingramdumpkiss they had marion doing backing vocals, she was as fit as hell but jesus she had a shit voice.

  • Ian Anderson must have a bard ancestor from the medieval ages...

  • @Fitzynator I must agree

  • Love this whole album COMPLETELY!

  • One of my favourites..thanks :)

  • This song makes me think about being drawn and quartered.

  • reminds me of "All Creatures Great & Small"

  • They also know the music of the past!!

  • Makes me want to prance in the woods.. with a sword and robin hood clothes!

  • 1:43-2:54 and 4:02-4:54 are so amazing! This is probably my second favorite Tull song after Broadford Bazaar.

  • best piece from the renaissance era.

  • wiccans like it too.

  • Hope you boys enjoyed this.

  • Why can't we all just prance in the woods?

  • What gets me is that Jethro Tull isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But a mouse is a mouse, furrow that.

  • I eat babies

  • @dorafily wtf?????????

  • Is there a live version of this. Adore this song. Ta

  • @JRBwithME Yes, just go to youtube search bar and type in "Velvet Green" should be on of the first results.

  • @JRBwithME Yes. You have to look hard for it but you can find it here on YouTube. Pretty good too. Be sure to check out the live version of Hunting Girl. Ian at his best......

  • I don't understand how everyone doesn't just love Tull. I'm a metalhead through and through, but they're just so damn good! I can't help but love them.

  • Emphatically love this song. Thanks for the upload!

  • Look at the lyrics sometime, this song is a giant sexual innuendo, still a fantastic piece of art though.

  • My favourite Jethro Song ever!..magical..it transports you to another place and time!

  • Absolute genius, the lot of 'em!

  • i wanna hear the hidden version of this song in the same album, check wikipedia

  • que buena cancion

  • ahh the days of olde english ballad rock bands.... can somebody roll me a fattie please.... the authrotisis just shuts me down lmao!!

  • Balls

  • I was and still am a Tull fan. The thing about this band is they've written a song about almost everything. I think they put out an album per year for about 15 years; some of it I can take or leave. But a lot of their early stuff is incredible. This song as a composition is one of the best. It is all that is great about the wild, including sex. A grade A emerald.

  • I bought this album when I was in college and I remember my girlfriend saying, "I really like that song, Velvet Green...even though I'm not sure if I should."

  • @metalschemist yeah the original words were FUCKING ON VELVET GREEN....its about getting a young lass pregnant

  • Great song, but check out the live version from 2/10/1977 - they play it at a faster tempo - makes this version seem slow and lacking in energy.

  • Musically, this song is amazing.

  • @kurt15324 I heard him say once when it was done..he wasn't sure they would be able to play it live.......it was so complicated

  • I have head some pagan music. It is ok but none of it compares to Songs from the Wood. This is such a wonderfully written piece.

  • @solunaraven I have *heard* is what I meant to say. Sorry, just still waking up.

  • Aqualung1969 - THANK YOU for sharing this with us!!

  • this song make me got goosebump

  • Excellent work as usual.

  • Also one of my favourties!

  • Aqualong ´89

You are a darling - posting all these tunes from JT!!

Who are you? You look so young at the picture! Can´t believe such a young guy love this music so much like I do - I also told my Bengal cat ANUBIS to day and he agreed!!!!

Thank you again for posting - you are a real fan and I love you for it!!! Velvet Green is a great tune like a lot of JT´S music.

  • this is definitely one of the better tull songs....i have so many, but damn....jethro tull is probably one of the most underrated groups that there ever was....

  • Long ago there was an online poll among hardcore Tullophiles asking which Tull tune was their all-time favorite. This was it, followed closely by Baker St. Muse and Jack-A-Lynn. This is Tull at their pinnacle, IMHO.

  • Talk about a musical composition. . .

  • I dunno why, this song and almost the whole Jethro Tull production hits very well to Finnish audience.

    This's just awesome.

  • really? well, then i'm unlucky, i've tried to get a finnish friend of mine into tull, but now she hates me when i talk of JT :P

  • Lol. . . perhaps you should take her there and take the air together (-:

  • LOL doesn't look like a bad idea...

  • @steelyman08

I meant to "Velvet Green". Sorry, I was a bit vague there!

  • @Aqualung1989 Ah well, turn her on to Apocalyptica, then :)

  • @Aqualung1989

Perhaps you should floggeth her bare buttocks whilst dressed in minstrel garb !

  • @supamatti Ha, that's because us Finns know good music!

  • @supamatti

Even my mom liked this song ...until she read the lyrics - LOL

  • yeah man im deff with viskipaukku... me n my buddies bring along portable speakers and play this album while walkin in the woods n smokin some green

  • its about loosing your virginity outside to a country man then regretting it in the morning and making excuses to your mother. if you listen it tells you all of this, and also the country man tells her when he is erect (Im tight against the seam)

  • get high, listen to this and walk in a forest in summer..

  • What is the meaning of this beautiful song? Anybody! And do you know if I can still buy "Songs from the Wood" on CD? I love Tulls "merry olde" songs. So romantic....no voice like Ian Anderson...ever!

  • Think outdoors sex.

  • it is a place they go in scotland...to have sex...

    replace walking...with the f-word......

  • Terrific Tull. Back then (mid 70s) they had such a rich and real reproduction of music that was of a romantic era so long ago, even millennia. Tull trobadours in truth...

  • hark, the strains of merry england.more mead, muff and mirth...and dont spare the horses.

  • ian anderson = master

  • haha, late perkele:D

  • @viskipaukku Yes, "Songs from the wood' is still available. The Net has plenty of sites where you can buy the CD, or download the Mp3s.

  • Beautiful!Great Band!

  • Great choice to upload

  • Really great song from a really great band! Check out Gentle Giant too, if you haven't already.

  • Grab a bottle of mead and rock out to Tull, love 'em.

  • Agreed, true fairies, and wonderful minstrels to boot!! Tinkerbell...

  • love this song :)

  • i really love jethro tull (♥) and this is one of their best musics but the beginning andending sounds a little like runescape's musics

  • jaja yeah!

  • I love the olde pagan music and that's exactly what Jethro Tull plays!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • old pagan music is evidently the order of the day!!!!

    HAILJIA!

  • every time fantastic anew! 2:54 - I love it! i now borrowed the album from a friend... it IS the best track on it!

  • celtic, medieval, renaissance, rock and roll... this is Jethro Tull.

  • @gizlivadi8013 Tull also used alot of blues in their music.

  • @sandro28grizz I know, I was referring to this song specifically.

  • Epic! Bought this album a week ago for my record-player! In my opinion, the best album Jethro Tull has made.

  • runescape sucks.

  • An artist not of this time

  • Agreed totally mind blowing good!

  • If Robin Hood formed a rock band, this is what it would sound like. I love the Old Earth tone, and melody. Ian Anderson is fantastic. Love this stuff! Thank you Aqualung 1989 for this!

  • Ha ha! Right!

I remember that the person who made me discover this band, someone of about your age, told me the same thing when she made me listen to them for the first time: thay it is a music reminding of Rbin Hood.

  • You would probably like some of Steeleye spans stuff too. Different to this though, English historical songs and instruments mixed with modern electric guitar ,bass, drums etc and sung by an angel. Try Thomas the Rhymer for an easy into. Listen to their jigs and also their harmony singing Gaudette.

  • @ramtha9 LOL.....well put!

  • @ramtha9

    ahahah! right!
