im here too because of Posey and Chick Benetto :D its fun to see that other people also looked up this song because of the book. Great book :) im a bit more than halfway through. il finish it by tomorrow i think. bye :)
I did not know his family had a Rhode Island background..I'm from RI!!!!! awesome Thanks for these posts.. I wish there was no red tape as far as Bobby Darin material on Youtube. There is so much to see hear and enjoy and I thank you for all the post you do!
@tallpaul521 Bravo for crediting a fine ass song writer Steve Allen with this gem. And Darin knocked it out of the park. No surprise there. He was soooooooooooo damn good. RIP Bobby!
@tallpaul521 "This Could Be The Start Of Something" is Steve Lawrence's & Eydie Gorme's signature song as well.
But then, Steve & Eydie were proteges, of sorts, of Steve Allen's, having had their television start as a singing duo on Allen's "Tonight" show, the first incarnation of that long-running NBC-TV program.
@tallpaul521 The Ocean Spray company may also thank Allen, as this tune was used as the jingle music in OS' first series of TV commercials, I think back in the 1960s, early '70s at latest..
Bobby Was Italian with one grandparent of British decent. His maternal grandfather was Italian, and his mother married an Italian guy who was a henchman for mob boss Frank Costello. His mother Nina would only say that much, but she never told Bobby his actual name.
Bobby Rydell wasn't even in the same hemisphere as Darin. Darin was among the elite entertainers in show buz hisory. He was the only singer whom the critcs believed could have surpassed Sinatra. Her had the voice, style and charisma that comes along once in a million years. Rydell was a neighborhood guy with a modicum of talent.
@BardCoennius Kevin Spacey doesn't resemble Bobby Darin all that much--he's the only one who most thinks he does.
Spacey is certainly too effeminate to have played Darin in the biopic he produced. But when one is putting up one's own money for a film, objectivity goes down the drain.
i am reading "For one more day" and let me tell you, it is really good. all the other books are good to. my fave is this one. but Tuesday is really good.
omg i also read 'the five people u meet in heaven' and for one more day' i aslo cried at the end and in the epilogue for one more day i must say mitch albom is one heck of damn writer btw i also want to read tuesdays with morrie'
Mr. Darin was THE performer's performer up until the day of his death. There's nothing short of amazing when it comes to the many talents of Bobby Darin.
I'm 23 years old and bobby inspired me to go singing! Now I sing songs of bobby darin, elvis, frank sinatra, michael buble! I love bobby, great performer and great singer. timeless!
This terrific song is on the "Mack is Back" DVD. The DVD has an extra hour of TV footage from the Flip Wilson Show, Andy Williams show, and newsreel of his Vegas appearances.
Bobby's grandfather Sam Cassotto was a minor league hood who worked for Frank Costello. When Sam died, Bobby's grandmother & mother had to take welfare & were desperately poor & Bobby was a sickly child. When Bobby got famous, Costello crime family members tried to cosy up to Bobby. He told them to go to hell, they never helped his family when he needed it, so he wanted nothing to do with their sort. Unlike a certain other Italian American crooner..........
He was of Italian descent. His maternal grandfather was Italian. His maternal grandmother was from a wealthy Rhode Island family of English/German descent. His grandmother raised him, and he thought that she was his mother most of his life. Many years later he learned that the woman whom he thought was his sister was really his mother. He never found out who his real father was.

That's what you definitely call knocking it out of the park! Bobby had a naturally dynamic delivery. You can't teach that in school.

ChristopherRosato 1 year ago 3
@ChristopherRosato different strokes for different folks - I wouldn't want to spend 2 minutes in the same room with either Darin or Sinatra.
Just listened to your 'Hesitation Blues' - nice stuff ... now I'm gonna see if you can 'kick up a little dust' with 'Midnight at the Oasis' ...
BernardProfitendieu 1 year ago
@ChristopherRosato Do you know Rydell? Ever worked with him?
I did for 20+ years, and I will tell you that you are wrong..
Bobby gets a bad rap because he is perceived as an "oldies" act.
I can tell you that even today, Bobby can "bring it" like few performers can..
The guy is a true musician. He loves music, and understands music..
And what is a "neighborhood" guy? Frankie Valli was one of those, I guess.. So was Sinatra, and Tony Bennett, Jerry Vale etc..

It's AMAZING what Bobby could do with a song, by transforming it into his own "Darin; finger-snappin'" classic!
Examples: "Under My Skin" - "That's All" - "On the Street Where You Live" etc...I am sure, I am missing a few.
There's only "ONE" Bobby Darin!...yes, I'd take him over "ole blue eyes" on "style"
