The other giants sizes compared to the bfg seem to change throughout the movie. For example, when fleshlumpeater is about to eat the kid, it looks as though bfg could fight him. In the end, wen the bfg faces the fleshlumpeater, he is like so small compared with him, it looks as though he could stamp him under his foot.
As much as I love Roald Dahl, I really hated the dialogue at 1:48 ... Riiiight, I guess Dahl has never seen all the spiders that eat their mate after intercourse, seem mammals that decide to eat their young, snakes that eat other snakes or why rodents should never be in the same cage (except for mating).
@SitOnPickle I think that was meant to be more from the BFG himself as a character rather than Dahl making a point. Although his heart's in the right place, BFG knows very little about humans and life on Earth.
(For example, in the book, BFG secretly borrows a boy's copy of Nicholas Nickelby while out delivering dreams - if I recall correctly he borrowed it so he could teach himself how to write - and thinks he's only had it for a short time, whereas he's had it for eighty years.)
haha freaky, i am also 20 and never knew of the film till someone told me about it. Remember the story from the book, but seeing this is ace - it must be some strange thing that all 20 year olds crave this part of their childhood back haha
I love thinking about it. Maybe one day, everyone that looks beyond sex and xbox will see there is SO much more to life!!!! Ah. Dream Country just makes me feel so distant from the land we live in today. IMAGINE. Only nice people the sad ones who watch this the ones who have really great memories worth remembering all in one country. Bliss :D
the onlything i dont like about this movie is that theres like wierd music.. like when they are flying in that dream world or something... yea but other wise i wanna bang the bfg lol
@Tawfynn In case you don't remember in both the book and the film he mentions that he has trouble with words, but that apparently applies to grammar as well. So just shut your cake hole and stop complaining!
In fairness when he says "only human being shoots and bombs and kills each other. No other animals is doing it" I think he means about full on wars for no real reason. Humans actually look for reasons to start fights with one another, we are a violent and destructive species by nature. Most others will have territorial reasons such as wolves and lions but they are animals, we have evolved beyond that yet we cannot shake the desire to want to kill one another.
Only humans kill their own kind? Well to be fair that's the kind of mistake you make when all your knowledge comes from one book. Oh and cats will kill their own kind the domestic variety is very unlikely to do so though.
@Starman117 Chimps have full blown territory wars where they hunt down members of other groups and slaughter them. To be fair it is a children's film made in the 80's
Amazing is the right word! And this is my favo part of the film, the space in there has really changed me since i saw this film for the first time many years ago
sometimes whenever i see the scenes with dream country i'd wanna just lay there as well as his workshop with the bottles and dream i kno its cheesy but cool
Seeing this, I think it's a shame that traditional "pen-and-paper" Western-style animation like this is either very poor or very rare. I'm looking at you, Disney!
Fantasy movies when I was a kid were so beautiful and with such amazing stories! I forgot how beautiful and fun this movie was. Its been so long since I saw it :)
sometimes i sing the song 'sometimes secretly' to my little cousin to help him get to sleep. it works surprisingly well because i just threaten to keep singing unless he goes to sleep.
...surprisingly he goes to sleep remarkably quickly after i give him that choice ^^
Sometimes secretly, i wish i was Sophie. shes very lucky (apart from the fact tht she is an orphan and she had sort of a cruel upbringing at the orphanage cuz Mrs Clonkers was so horrid). i'd love to fly and catch dreams with the BFG.
"Sometimes Secretly" and Whizzpop Whizzbang" are such lovely songs! i must've played them over and over again when i had the video tape :)
Because of an illustration in the book, I always thought of the dream place as having the characteristics of a cool, misty meadow. But this is pretty neat too. I really like his dream bottles.
@kw8nmn Yeah i remember watching this and i never read the book but i found the book in the school library and found that brill so i just had to watch the film again. lol happy times
