  • I love this film.

  • although people are saying this was better than the one with jack black, you should know that at the time people hated it! Everyone said this was just a really long cartoon and was a poor imitation of Snow White and the 7 dwarves. This and Mr. Bug goes to town was the downfall of Max Fleischer's career and company...literally...

  • @Detth2you Incorrect. Gulliver was actually a modest hit when it was released and got fairly good critical reception. Go read "The Fleischer Story" and "Out of the Inkwell: Max Fleischer and the Animation Revolution". Mr. Bug flopped because of bad timing(released two days before Pearl Harbor) , not to mention Paramount gave it almost no promotion in both of its 1940s releases, even though its superior to Gulliver in almost every way.

  • Used to watch this at my grandma's in the late '80s. I practically wore out her VHS copy - thanks for sharing yours!!

  • Thank you for sharing, nice way of killing some time on a Sunday afternoon like this, watching this:)

  • @misslittleRoar it's "Alls Well". sorry.

  • This is the best feature film version of Mr.Swift's that I've ever seen.

  • hehe, this one was supposed to be the counter for disney's "snow white". Too bad they didn't deserved the credit they were supposed to have!

  • wow ... I got it. This is my favorite movie when I was young. ^-^

  • the peroson who made this did he make loney tunes and tom and jery?

  • @control131 No. This film was made by Fleischer Studios, the genuises behind Betty Boop and the 1933-1942 Popeye cartoons. Looney Tunes were made by Termite Terrace (later Warner Bros. Cartoons) and Tom and Jerry was made by MGM's cartoon department.

This film does have a similar look to Disney animation, mainly because they had a bunch of ex-Disney staff on board, and made this film to try and play follow the leader to Disney's Snow White.

  • i am a little girl!!! J/K lol but i love this movie!!!! :D

  • The guy's a good runner.

  • The really sad part about this is when he saw this, Disney said that his second stringers could do better. It ain't perfect, but I still love this movie

  • 7 people's feet are wet and have aching bunyons.

  • @SparkyMK3 When I'm feeling crappy and someone asks me how I'm doing, I always want to say, 'My feet are cold! My bunions ache!' :)

  • After I saw this the first time, I couldn't stop humming "all's well" Got kinda annoying, for me, after a while...

  • these ones were first,,,check out the second one they did,,mr hoppity goes to town,,or something,,,then they left new york,,,,,great work here.

  • epic cartoon B) ... and a timeless classic... Usually I hate music parts, but I love all of the songs in this one :D

  • this is the old one man

  • better than the one with jack black

  • @samsunggalaxyspica Jack black rules

  • thanks for sharing...my twin sis and i grew up on this too....even though we were born 1985

  • lol at the small said ohhhhhhh welllllllll what a rainy day....

  • Epic song!! 4:03!!

  • @Bullhead95 like your thoughs

  • Though I Think the new one is going to be funny, it will never be as good as this :)

  • Aah, this was really a long time ago! shiit so fun! i loved this movie when i was little! :-P

  • hmm im just wondering why their places are hard to spelll...hehehe...:)

  • I love these kind of films, I'm telling ya, they do not suck at all. This is the first film Warren Batchelder, Virgil Ross (A.K.A Walter Ross, since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs) and Ted Bonnicksen (A.K.A Theodore Bonnicksen) worked on!

  • wait a minute... how old is the sound effect at 6:27?? isn't that used in alpha centauri?? also the opening a portal in diablo 1?

  • So this movie was to take on Disney's Snow White at the time. Personally I say this wins. xD

  • It's a hap-hap-happy day! Toodle-oodle-oodle-oodle-oodle ay! For you and me, for us and we...

  • It's a hap-hap-happy day! Toodle-oodle-oodle-oodle-oodle ay! For you an me, for us and we...

  • I love it when he realises that he´s standing on a giant hand and runs like the wind back to the village. Laughs every time.

  • Something is odd.... did they censor a "black-face" at 9:11?

  • Go watch this on "openflix" channel. He has it all on one vid and it's better quality.

  • A true pearl among movies!!!!

  • I watched this tons of times as a kid, certainly bring back a lot of good memories seeing it again. Probably the best adaptation of the story, at least for kids anyway.

  • This movie..along with a number of old Betty Boop cartoons were in heavy rotation on my TV as a kid...This film IS my Childhood!

  • I saw this movie when i was a litle girl. I loved this movie.

    But swedish story

  • i thougnt it was the gullivars travels coming in theaters

  • @papiadiop Yes but all of these is based on the story of Gullivers travels.

Cant wait till it comes out in Mexico :D

  • this is aload of bull how crap can ths get

  • @lukedapro645 stop watching such things then

  • Jessica Dragonette is pretty much the coolest name ever.

  • Why is it that only Gulliver, the prince and the princess look like normal people, and the rest look like a bunch of disney's village idiots

  • @Ufollowme2 this is my first timw watching and wow ur right

  • @Ufollowme2 gulliver was traced from a real actor, called rotoscoping. i think the contrast between them is rather amusing tho

  • man was that sonic

  • There's a new version of this movie coming out this Xmas, so go watch and enjoy. It's not a remake of this version, neither does it follow the book exactly but still is good.

  • woowoooo!!

  • this used to be on channel 5 KTLA at least once a year

  • LOL memories

  • I'm 30 now. I still remember this movie being telecasted on our national channel in 1991 during the PRE-cable days here in INDIA. And this movie had a big impact on me as I also had two chapters (Liliput/Brobdingnag) as a part of our studies. Today after watching other versions of Gulliver's Travels, I still believe this is the Best ever. I own a copy & watch it frequently. SCOTTDAVID, A MILLION THANKS FOR SHARING THIS JOY WITH THE WORLD. Sending love from India to all those who love this movie.

  • I think the satirical nature of Gulliver's Travels was too complex to put in a family film, so Fleischer Studios changed it into a Disney-like fairy tale to make it more accessible to young viewers. People who love the book may not like that change, but this film is actually an important piece of film history: it was the first American animated feature not produced by Disney.

  • When I first saw this film, I was like, "Wow, it looks a hell of a lot like something Disney would come up with." And I was right. The similarities between the Lilliputians (especially Gabby) and the Seven Dwarfs are staggering. I can see why people think Snow White is superior in terms of story, character development and animation, but I still enjoy this film.

  • @31operafan i think the animation of gulliver is better than disney animations of the time, though i agree with you on story.

  • the first little human got a strange voice :S but this movie is very very very nice<3

  • so many childhood memories....

  • @MsIVANA0013 : This movie is so unbelievably old that's it's pretty much EVERYBODY's childhood memory. It'a a true Classic.

  • its a great movie!, Its a shame though that you dont see the 3 other islands as from the book :/.

  • I was doing some research on the original Gulliver's Travels and this came up... Holy cow, I remember watching this in Fred Meyer's day-care thing when I was about three. Not that I was three when this came out XD NOOOO I

  • Dear Baron Rogoff,

I first watched The Fleischer animated feature film version of"Gulliver's Travels!"on WABC TV Ch.7 in NYC on a sunday evening in the early 1960's.This was before WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC began airing it.

  • the one with jack black might be funny haha!

  • Oh man, the nostalgia, it's really fascinating how a film or a song can evoke so much memories.

  • Pinto did a great job in this movie.

  • @WWEChampion16 Yes he did. :) But Gabby's voice was not Pinto's natural voice; this is his voice sped up to make it sound annoying and squeaky.

  • I CANT BELIEVE THAT I FOUND THIS VIDEO WHICH I SAW LIKE 10 YEARS AGO!

  • I´VE GOT THIS PRINT ON SUPER 8 AND IT´S STILL LOVELY, REALLY, NICE AND TIMELESS CARTOON...I AGREE...

  • oh man this is my childhood! we have this on vhs and would watch this all the time! i'm kind of pissed at the new trailer for the 2010 version, i much prefer this!!

  • ALL WELL ! :D Sweet memories!!

  • How did you get a print of this movie?

  • where can i find it in german or serbian !! ?

  • THERE'S A GIANT ON THE BEACH!!! that line made me laugh.

  • Comment removed

  • Whoa, I haven't seen this since I was 7! Thanks for the memories!

  • I remember watching this as a kid and my dad, who is a pretty tall guy with a not-so-gabby voice, always impersonated Gabby's "There's a giant on the beach!" perfectly! It still makes me laugh when he does that. xD

The animation is so great. This is such a beautifully crafted film. Thanks for posting!

  • I always get misty eye when I watch this movie. It was my grandpas favorite and we use to watch it all the time when I visit him. So now when ever I see it I think of him. Great movie~

  • @4:00 ... that's the song i've repeated for all my life! Took me almost 30 years to find it! Thank you YouTube and specially thank you Scottdavid4321! :)

  • 4:10

    Holy bajeezowhacks, it's Gabby!

  • @FromTheGang Haha, sorry. Didn't know that all the Gabby cartoons were a spinoff of this movie. I used to watch them all the time when I was little (my grandma had a tape of them).

I never knew he was from Lilliput!

  • Love the song "Alls Well"! Is this film public domain?

  • @SomeFluffer64 Yes, but I wish it wasn't. The fact that it is public domain makes me wish that Paramount Pictures (the original distributors for this movie) bought back the rights to Gulliver's Travels and ask Viacom permission to post the whole thing on YouTube without commercials.

  • Oh my goodness. This had to have been my favorite movie as a kid! Thanks for uploading it!

  • This perhaps the best copy I've seen of this movie; the colors are so sharp.

  • Animation is WAY higher quality than cartoons today!

  • my favourite cartoon of all time during my younger childhood

  • i loved this movie when i was a kid !

  • how can i download this vid i really need this for our report

  • there making a movie about this with jack black yea i saw the trailer in the movies

  • how size of his cock?

  • There's a giant on the beach and he's covered with sludge. Call BP.

  • This is one of my favorite animated films. I know it's not as well-known as the classic Disney films, but it has its own special charm. :)

  • this film reminds me of good times!

  • They deleted this scene from the DVD version

  • Huh. i didnt know gabby was based on this :D

    i love gabby!

  • If Fleischer Studios lasted longer, they would have become as famous as Disney and Warner Brothers!

  • I still have my original video, too. I would never part with it! I love this old toon!

  • i remember this movie when i was 10 years old :) thank you for uploading this..i think this cartoon movie is not 1939..must be 1995 im sure :)

  • @potlogz actually this movie really was made in 1939. it's one of my all time favorites. you can look it up on Wikipedia if you don't believe me. it was created in 1939 bro

  • Disney???

Animation is similar to Disney's Snow White And The Seven Dwarves,

    :D

  • @Menton5646 Some of the animators worked on both films, but I don't think they animated that many scenes.

  • I've been thinking about this movie my whole life! Thanks so much for posting it here!

  • "Your majesty?"

    "Thank you, your majesty."

XD I always found that funny. I have fond memories of this film

  • he looks like a drunk zombie when he's walking out of the water xD

  • Much underrated and not very well known. A pity. Love the movie very much.

  • I love this movie!!!!

  • Remember seeing this at Saturday Morning Pictures. Great memories.

  • same people that made the popeye cartoons?

  • jamierourketen, yes they did Popeye, as well as Betty Boop, Superman and a lot of others. At one time, Flescher Studios was a significant challenger to Disney.

  • This so so brings back good old memories : ) ..

  • I adore this cartoon <3 <3 <3

  • Traduction-

"Tout va bien, qu'est-ce qu'un jour de pluie? Peu importe ce nuage, derrière ce nuage vous trouverez un rayon d'or. Tout va bien, rire à vos craintes. Voir la lumière d'avance, juste avant, il ya une nuit de pleine lune. Allons s'amuser tout le monde, tout va bien. "

  • @toad:

"All's well, what's a rainy day. Never mind that cloud, behind that cloud you'll find a golden ray. All's well, laugh your fears away. See the light ahead, right ahead, there's a moonlit night ahead. Everyone come on have funn, all's well."

  • @cncrocket Wow! All these years I thought the line was "What a rainy day!" and thought it seemed a bit strange that he was commenting on how rainy it was but never really questioned it. Listening to it again, of course it's "what's a rainy day" as you say, meaning "a rainy day isn't worth complaining about".

  • I cant even count how many times I have seen this movie, and it never gets old:D

My dad saw this when he was a just a kid. And we have it on VHS somewhere. I eventually got my own copy so I would not wreck my dad's, but its still at home. Thanks for the upload. Now I can watch it again:D

  • I bought this for my nephew and niece when they were very young. I used to sing along with the "All's well" for them. I was just trying to be the loving Uncle and keep the happy.... and satisfied... (& Quiet too). :P

  • Bonjour à tous.

Je suis française et je n'ai donc pas la chance de comprendre les paroles de "All's well", quelqu'un aurait-il la gentillesse de poster les paroles?

    Merci d'avance.

    Et, au passage, merveilleux dessin-animé!

  • I used to watch this in the 60's every thanksgiving along with Laurel and Hardys' "March of the wooden Soldiers". And Steve Reeves "hercules" movies on the weekend. Good times and great shows!

  • Oh! the movie has made all the characters so cute! i love it!

  • This is such a classic. An American classic at its best. I don't know of anyone who doesn't like Gullivers' Travels or who hasn't even seen it. It's simply unAmerican if u havent seen it.

  • All weel!

  • they didn't have colored films in 1939, did they? I mean, my mom told me about the time a kid in her neighborhood got color tv...or was it my grandma? but my grandma was born in 1940....

  • Movie got color in the 1930's. TV was much different. If fact, color movies were shown on TV had to become black and white.

  • That makes sense. cool. I learnt something :)

  • @Scottdavid4321 correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't snow white the first film with technicolor? I also have a feeling that disney was the first to incorporate phonograph's sound system. (if that was the name of it)

  • @Scottdavid4321 wow, i never saw this comment....thank you ^_^

  • they certainly had color films, but they didn't have color television to broadcast them.

  • @ArishaSmile Some silent films in the 1920s had color sequences, but it was still experimental. True full-range technicolor began around 1936. Disney's color production of SNOW WHITE (the first full length animated movie) came out the following year. Other color movies from 1939 include GONE WITH THE WIND and THE WIZARD OF OZ. Color television started in the late '50s and color broadcasting became the norm around 1966.

  • @kgammill thanks for telling me, Im actually doing a history presentation on broadcasting next week (mostly radio) but I'll include this ^_^

  • O_O

This is really good animation for being made in 1939.

  • ive seen a version of gullliver where gulliver was a real peson but the ppl from lilliput were cartoons and there were songs like

    neva mix brains and politics

  • sorry i culdnt find it...there was the verion with both real ppl but not the version i wz tlkinbout

  • ah i found it

    it ws the 1977 version
