Instead of using cloth and thread for chicken livers I have found that mustad makes a hook called the double live bait/liver hooks and they work great with liver I have not had one slip off those hooks yet
You should try cheesecloth for your chicken livers they work really well just tie them off with magic thread, cool thing is that you tie your livers before you go fishing and then soak them in the chicken blood and the cheesecloth will absorb lots of blood and help attract cats, really cheap too its like a buck for a piece the size of a table cloth. Marshmallows work well for trout, I just use the store bought kind and add a garden worm and cast out. Its a old school rig, used before powerbait
