  • Just redress those fan blades and its good to go. She aint going to the moon.

  • I think Navy jets need 2 engines. If something similar would have happened in flight, he could have returned to the ship. Why would they consider a single engine aircraft like the F-35C?

  • @lferrer1970

i have to agree, from a defence standpoint, i will always favour a twin engine fighter/ fleet defender etc.

  • @lferrer1970 thats why they have only twin engined planes. and they got the F-35 to replace the F-18 hornet.

  • could be somebody's dropped his/her lucky coin on the deck.

  • has anyone seen my coffee mug?

  • correction i have worked ad an engineer on multiple air force bases and its foreign object DAMAGE, the debris part is a common myth.

  • @rickrollification but you can not spell its called spell check look it up

  • thaaaaat sucks call the mechs

  • Correction, It can injest FOD, although the word stands for foreign object damage, It is used as a noun. I work in a Deep Maintence facility on Blackhawks. We refer to anything loose on the ground as FOD and you will find that the term is used likewise in nearly every single maintence or operational level facility in the world.. Just like we always say, FOD is a killer ;)

FOC on the other hand refers to the controll of FOD

  • the engine cannot ingest foreign object damage... Debris went indo the engine that CAUSED the FOD.

  • @rickrollification there are even trash cans sitting around commercial airport ramps labeld "FOD", i think its used as a noun pretty often

  • WTH. I am glad I didn't take part in that FOD walk (If there was any at all). LOL, I can only imagine what whats going through that pilots head when he started feeling the engine shell like that.

  • looks like D.I.L.L.I.G.A.F. to me.

  • I bet the pilot was just praying the Cat office did not punch that button. That would have sucked.

  • Can someone please tell me what FOD means????

  • does noone read video descriptions?

    foreign object and debris

  • Foreign Object Damage or Foreign Object Debris. FOD is an aviation term used to describe the damage done to aircraft engines by foreign objects such as birds, tools, loose gear or anything that can be sucked into an aircraft intake and cause damage to the engine.

  • FOD WALK ANYONE?

  • FUCK, loads of sparksthere, im surprised the plane didnt go ka-boom :/

  • Wow, that sucks. I can see the pilot now: "WTF?!?" LOL. I'm stationed at N.A.S. Lemoore right now. For some reason, I like FOD walkdowns. I always seem to find myself working nights though.

  • i heard you have to walk back and forth like six times

  • I remember when I was at NAS Lemoore we did FOD Walks every friggin' morning. I hated it. But whoever missed that piece of FOD on the carrier, is a stupid head!

  • MADE IN CHINA?

  • no made in america buddy just engines can get destroy very easily

  • ha! this shit rapes china

  • I remember having to do FOD walks at Luke AFB every few months. I was AMMO but everyone in aircraft support had to once in awhile. Every damn minute pebble.....

  • lmao i'm here at luke now.....

i don't have too because i'm on swings. in days it sucked ass though.

  • Awesome! I was there 94-97. Swings was great because we'd go in at like 4 and leave about 9. I've looked at photos and it's changed. Seems the flight line has coverings over the 16's on the flight line? The BX was junk and rebuilt into what it is now and there was nothing but cotton and flower fields in the surrounding area! They still have the monthly day off if all the squads make their sortie quotas?

  • i don't think so. swings is great i love the work, just the 12 hrs can suck at time. all those flower and cotton are mostly gone it's all stores and commercial shopping, and i don't think we have that day off thing now and yeah there's sunshades now. you can imagine all the trucks and security forces and jets and colemans that hit them lol

  • months? Wow, we walk the length of the boat several times a day. Still, a couple thousand people up there at one time and some jerks not following the guidelines mean you can't always catch everything.......

  • Yes, months. Non-flightline personnel were in the FOD rotation, also. Of course it was walked everyday.

  • Well, being a Hornet, they'll probably bang out the sheet metal, replace a part, and it's flying within an hour.

    Like a Japanese car, baby!

  • rofl very true

  • someone want's toast ? :D

  • Looks like the compressor or turbine took a crap. That had to be one big ass piece of F.O. to do that. Like golf ball size or better.

  • How did he know this was going to happen did they plan this... If so what a waist of a 10 million $ engine.

  • what??? they dont, the on deck camera has to observe all take offs and landings as an aid to any accidents to find causes and so on, its a safety measure

  • could have been a dodgy vindaloo

  • For reals man, it is, but think about it shooting down other jets.. o.O

  • so?

  • Yeah I used to go hide during FOD Walkdowns, they really suck

  • i try to but never works out

  • Thats why during FOD walkdown we keep our hands out of our pockets, eyes on the deck and not talk to the fool next to us. save the scuttlebutt for the shop. hahaha

  • Better to ingest before they push the catapult button!

  • Who knows something about F-18s problems in land use? Spain,Australia,Suisse,Finland...the intakes are situated so far back from frontwheels

  • beautiful plane.

  • That it is!

  • Well...thats why we have FOD walkdown, funny..you can hear someone at the ends saying," thats not good"
