Mein sister and I have dubbed this, and all the others the "Hotel Hoist." I just can't get enough of the music. Definitely one of my favorite Joe Raposo songs.
Trund27, you must be from the same generation as me when SS The Electric Company & Mister Rogers were all popular! BTW, how old are you? Check my profile & video out when U have a moment!
I remember these bits from when I was about 4; I used to call them "Pull up letter," and they were one of my favorite segments. I used to tie magnetic letters to a piece of string, and pull them up the front of a toy building while humming the tune from these.
I've always wondered what the sign they're assembling was supposed to read. There is another segment like this, but they were hauling an "O" up. If you watch close, it's the same building...same air conditioners in the same windows on the same floors, same "restaraunt" and "jewlers" businesses on the 1rst floor... So, let's see....we have "O" and "R" but I wonder what the rest of it was.
This was definitely filmed in the 1970's because I saw in it in many SS skits particularly from 1974-1976 before I started pre-school and watching while having breakfast before I went to PM Kindergarden 1976-1977. I never knew about John Waite video being filmed on the roof of this hotel. It's interesting that they use the same music for the letter O & H. I have to say that using the music to this segment to pull the letter up is pretty cool!
:26-:30 oops, pesky traffic light in the way. Clever little segment, teaching us how the letters were lifted to the top of these buildings. Does Sesame Street even bother with these anymore?
haha! weird seeing those letters again lit up in the first few seconds of that video. I wonder if he was a fan of sesame street and chose the location for that reason

I used to think the guy holding the cable at the top was actually pulling it up, not realizing he was just guiding it up.

what city is this or a street name?
emdfan78 2 years ago
Broadway between West 62nd & 63rd St, NY, NY. Definately looks to be 1970s.
Trivia: John Waite (best known for the song "Missing You") filmed the video for his "If Anybody Had A Heart" on the roof of this hotel in 1986.
