Just to clear up the confusion: In 1961, Gibson offered 2 types of Les Pauls, the style we see today and the SG style. The "Les Paul" SG was supposed to compete with Fender's Strat. Les Paul hated the new designed and convinced the designers to take his name, Les Paul, off the guitar. Gibson named it SG, which stands for solid guitar, not standard gibson, as some people say. The SG is now Gibson's best selling guitar.
