It seems hard to think no one has ever tried this before but I do not know.
This idea came about soon after implementing a NURBS patch for Seamless3d. I realised it would not take much to utilise the same interface designed for creating shapes to define envelops for harmonics.
Thank you for sharing this original idea. Did you invent it? Which software do you use? Ideas, that evolve community-driven are fascinating.
You too appear to dream the idea of integrating sound, graphics and text? Perhaps it might combine with another intended community initiative "StenoMotion". -- fridemar
The surface defines the multiple envelopes for the 41 harmonics/sine-waves that make up the sound for the synthesizer playing the notes.
To understand the concept perhaps it would be best to begin by thinking in terms of using a 2d curve to define each harmonic's envelope.
Instead of using lots of 2d curves I am using a 3d NURBS surface but this can be thought of as lots of 2d curves if you imagine each envelope for each harmonic being a slice in the surface running from left to right.
how does it work? Is it moving over the surface and talking the height at different points to control the sound? Could you animate to show better what it's doing? It's interesting, anyway.
