I watched the entire walkthrough and I do admit that spoony's complaints were fact, but it seemed that he nitpicked the entire game, the characters, and the gameplay style, but still it is a great rant and review it is just that it was more with hating the story than the gameplay
This is easily the best FF of all time. The last of the great summons attacks, limit breaks and the junction system makes for a very customisable game. FF hasn't written a better story then 8's, with complex introverted heros and chameleon like villains
FFVIII is an incredible game, one of the ones that can compete to be the best FF. The Junction system makes for a very very deep battle engine, absolutely gigantic. The story is full of surprises and plot twists that really are awesome. The world is extremely well-done, every place you come surprise you in a good way, by being so creative. Tetsuya Nomura's character design are modern and cool and fit well to the characters. The characters, while not being the center of story, are good too.
final fantasy x is my favorite final fantasy from it's creators still today. only final fantasy game that has really gotten me excited like x is final fantasy versus xiii. don't even know when it's coming out but all ways looking for it to be so EXCITED for it.

I love how the fan boys of this game are getting all butthurt. IMO Final Fantasy stopped being good after VI. Period. And while it's still a good game, I can't stand VII for the sole fact that they've milked it's popularity so damn much with spin-offs like Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core. If you have to explain the plot of a game further with shitty sequels and spin-offs you didn't do a good job of explaining the story the first time around.
@Dimbark Incorrect. The Gunblade does not actually fire projectiles. In fact, all that pulling the trigger does is sending a shockwave throughout the blade that will cause deeper internal damage - this is the logic of having to press the trigger at the exact time of the attack.
The Gunblade concept was later reconceived into what Lightning (from Final Fantasy XIII) uses - the Switch Gunblade - which does, in fact, fire projectiles in its firearm form.
And you probably think ff7 was the best just like everybody! Ff7 was great but the ending is such a let down! Ff is a lot like NIN there are always switching the style because that what real geniuses do! You will never real know what is great untill you really know what's bad! You have to take chances! this game was great and my fav beside ff6 not ff7!

As far as im considered, the only good final fantasy games were 7, 12 and kingdom hearts ,although I did not play anything before 7 so i might be wrong on those ones, I dont know, 13 and 14 however certainly suck.
I read in a bathroom stall once that the the 'gun' part of the gunblade fires blanks. However these blanks send a shock wave through the blade as you cleave into your opponent, effectively turning it into something not unlike a reciprocating saw. (Highly unlikely to ever be practical, but I'll still give them an A for creativity.)

@Achenar12 There are a few irritating aspects. The monsters level with you. The cards are entirely optional so I don't know what the fuck he's on about. The Junctioning was a new thing, and new things aren't always good. But it got discarded. You shouldn't NOT play a game because the developers tried to innovate the series with it and maybe failed. By that sense, you'll never play any FF until the very last game coming out.
It's not nearly as bad as he's trying to make it sound. At all.

Spoony's review is from the point of view of somebody playing the game for the first time, I agree it was confusing as hell especially when you were used to the classic FF format. I didn't like FF8 at all when it came out, it was only years later that I took the time to appreciate the leveling system and the many intricacies of magic junctioning. To this day I think that this is, with FF5, the most customizable FF game of all (Except 11 and 14).

cervantes from "soul calibur" had a gun blade, but his was practical and how he used it made sense. he is a effing pirate, but the gun blade from final fantasy 8 made no sense to me.

If you enjoy FF8, for sure it was your first RPG ever and you did NOT played a proper Final Fantasy game or RPG before doing so. It's only my second-most hated FF game though, FF3 being the first. GAAHH, IT SUCKS! BOTH OF THEM!!

@hratchig80 how did you find it boring, you get sent on a mission to capture the president from a moving train, you try to assassinate a sourceress, you break out of jail, you infiltrate a base and stop some missiles, you have an epic battle on flying garden ships, where your the leader of an army, then you find an invisible futuristic city, go into space free a old sourceress kill it, save rinoa from space, kill a load of moster that took over an abandoned ship, then do some crazy time travel

Hell, when I first heard that the Twilight Saga was about a war between vampires and werewolves, you'd better believe I went to the library to check it out. @pbdq12 fair enough, but i personally liked the combat system, cuz i mean junctioning made the characters more customisable than ever, well maybe less than ffx's sphere grid but still... and ok yes drawing was annoying but i didn't reli mind it all that much, and i dunno i just reli liked it, it just seemed to click with me, it's one of my favourites, even tho i still think ff6 and 7 are better....

@hratchig80 I gotta agree with DarkLord1061 on this. How the hell could you possibly find this game boring? You do the craziest shit there is in most JRPGs out there. Granted, it's no Shin Megami Tensei, but considering you found the Junction System complicated, I hardly believe you'd be entertained by a highly cerebral and intelectual storyline to begin with.
What I mean to say is, if you cannot grasp the concept of Junctioning, you're about the gamer's level equivalence of a Disney game.

As far as im considered, the only good final fantasy games were 7, 12 and kingdom hearts ,although I did not play anything before 7 so i might be wrong on those ones, I dont know, 13 and 14 however certainly suck.

I read in a bathroom stall once that the the 'gun' part of the gunblade fires blanks. However these blanks send a shock wave through the blade as you cleave into your opponent, effectively turning it into something not unlike a reciprocating saw. (Highly unlikely to ever be practical, but I'll still give them an A for creativity.)

@Achenar12 There are a few irritating aspects. The monsters level with you. The cards are entirely optional so I don't know what the fuck he's on about. The Junctioning was a new thing, and new things aren't always good. But it got discarded. You shouldn't NOT play a game because the developers tried to innovate the series with it and maybe failed. By that sense, you'll never play any FF until the very last game coming out.
It's not nearly as bad as he's trying to make it sound. At all.

I actually like the concept of the Gun blade,If it's really a gun blade which means bullets and sword. I get where spoony is coming from, the grip would be nearly impossible. But i like how it looks...Maybe thats just me. I'm not saying spoony is wrong but I like final fantasy, no matter how stupid it seems. I think it would be cool to just go *Bam* *Slash* You dead. I mean there were gun blades in DotHack G.U and i like them there too. Regardless i think spoony's reviews are funny as all shit.

Spoony's review is from the point of view of somebody playing the game for the first time, I agree it was confusing as hell especially when you were used to the classic FF format. I didn't like FF8 at all when it came out, it was only years later that I took the time to appreciate the leveling system and the many intricacies of magic junctioning. To this day I think that this is, with FF5, the most customizable FF game of all (Except 11 and 14).

I've watched this review somewhere around a dozen times already and I still laugh just as hard every time. It's HYSTERICAL. I have a special place in my heard for Final Fantasy VIII, but every time you take a step, you fall into a giant plot hole. Spoony is merely pointing them out. What's wrong with that?

this is more of a whine than a review, you almost whine about everything square tried to do something new. About the junction system, you whine about it because it is complicated. About the drawing system, you whine about the repetitive nature of it, but seriously, what are the differences between drawing repetitively and killing monster repetitively for leveling up? + you whine about how the plot changed from fighting evil guys to a love story, well look at the logo again. Typical FFVII fanboy.

@Cafu192 its a bad thing you have to use time drawing magic... if you want to use magic you should find an interesting way to aqquire it and be able to use it as long you bring something to replenish your mana, thats standard RPG stuff. its bad that you have to choose beetween being statistically powerful or use magic, cause if you can get just as powerful not useing your magic, but saveing it , whats the point in useing it? and if you use it you have to use more time collecting magic...

Also FF was never meant to be gameplay oriented, battle most of the time sucks (compare to the gameplay of other game). Without the awesome storyline, what do you think will happen to the ff series,with this type of gameplay? Shit, even FFVII, they all live solely base on good storyline.

@BlueEye096 you should buy it, spoony's review is a review from a FFVII fanboy which is most of the time not accurate about the actual quality of the game. If you want a quality review from a final fantasy veteran who actually STUDIED all final fantasy from 1-7, go google Andrew Vestal's Final fantasy VIII review, he will look at it in a much more non-biased way.
