  • I 'm a New Englander , Live in MA , attended school @ Johnson & Wales and bought 'Gansett by the case back in the day . They used to run sales on it every once in a while ( $5.99 a case plus deposit ) . I'd always stock up and have an emergency stash for those Sundays when beer could not be sold . Who remembers the " Blue Laws " ?

  • Let's go Friars!

    Let's go Rhody!

  • I've had this on "favorites" for a few years & I never get tired of watching it!!!! Great, great ad! Go, 'Gansett!" And Go Rhody!!!! I still remember the brewery in Cranston. Can anyone tell me the name of the street it was on? I haven't lived in RI for over 40 years but I can still see that big building!

  • I've had this on "favorites" for a few years & I never get tired of watching it!!!! Great, great ad! Go, 'Gannett!"

  • My uncle told me stories that a 32 oz cup of Narragansett Beer was 35 cents at the old RI Auditorium back in the late 1960's early 1970's for Providence Reds hockey games, also proved why there were most fights in the stands than in the game itself.

  • If you drank 'Gansett in the 70's you were going a lot.

  • I remember the words to this jingle 40 years later which shows you how effective it was. Very well-written. This song makes me proud to be a New Englander. Their catch line is: "Hi neighbor" SUPERIOR!!!

  • @tonywallacess45 Hi neighbor, have a 'gansett. My dad worked (drove) for the Narragansett brewery for years.

  • @steveswb Hi neighbor ! I recently saw Jaws on cable and Quint was drinking a 'Gansett in an early scene-then he crushes the can. I'm gonna pop one as soon as I get home.

  • I remember my dad coming home from work, kicking back in the recliner, putting on his slippers, turning on the tv, and always popping open a gansett.. it was all he ever drank.. dad died 12 years go now,, but whenever I think about him I grab me a gansett.

  • You know it!

  • @Mikakk2

You know what? I needed an excuse to grab one more before I hit the hay. God bless. Long live New England and Rhody.

  • This is a special ad driven by a beautiful sentiment.

  • You know, I have always loved Narragansett beer, whether it was the lager, 96 (Lite), or Porter. I was actually looking for the old radio ad of Narragansett, circa 1967, but I was surprised and pleased to find this slightly newer tv ad. I do remember it! It was well done. I particularly liked the line about the "...seacost in the rain." There's no place like New England and Rhode Island may have the friendliest people on the planet. Did someone say that Narragansett was back in business?

  • This ad campaign made me drink Gansett and sing the song, over & over. I love the song & sentiment as much today. The variations of this commercial were even better! The song always made me so proud to be a New Englander who understands the "seacoast in the rain".

Thank-you so much for bringing this moment back. Others who commented on this know just what I mean. Whew! TAKE ME THERE!

  • There was a slower, folkier version and it was better. I remember the singer as a weathered baritone. In fact, I remember the ad being played immediately after PC had lost to Penn in 1972. Living on the Cape and feeling a million miles from Rhode Island and never to return, I cried for the rest of the night.

  • But the next year was the Final 4 year with Ernie D and Marvin. I remember this song in the summer of 71just before we moved to Philly and it made me sad. Ironically I became a Big Five fan which I still am today(that's the five Phila, college teams) I do remember Penn beating Providence in March of 72. I rooted for Providence. Today I would root for Penn, But I'm still a Sox , Celtics and Bruins fan. The Eagles have tied the Pats as my favorite in football. Southern NE is friendlier then Boston

  • @Aggromerchant I also remember the man with the deep voice singing this. God, I'd like to hear that again...

  • @Aggromerchant That was the one I was looking for also but this'll do for now ,

  • @Aggromerchant where did you live on the cape ?

  • @dan508

South Yarmouth. I grew up in Hyannis.

  • Ahh great memories of going to a clambake and drinking Narragansette beer and asking someone, hey what did the Sox do today?

  • There are no words to say how much I love this commercial! I was born & raised in Newport, RI & lived for many years in Prov, RI. I've lived on Cape Cod for 40 yrs & know the last scene was in Chatham. I've thought of this commericial for many years & it has given me great pleasure to hear it again & be able to keep it. My son found this & sent it to me. Thank you to both!

  • This is sssoooooo good. One of the GREAT sentimental "feel good" ads of the 70s, like the Hillside Singers wanting ton buy the world a Coke! A native of Maine, in 1973 I was a Navy officer in Newport, RI and heard/saw this commercial many times. And since finding it here I have probably played it 20 more. As "lundissimo" says, fill the glass and talk to me of home!

  • hi, back in the day i loved this commercial, i have been dying to hear it again since they quit playin' it on tv, i went on youtube tonite lookin for it again and what a surprise to find it blees you

  • omigod! this commercial is just like US!!!! RI is AWESOME!!!! THIS COMMERCIAL IS AWESOME! i cant believe u FOUND it! let's have a narragansett and talk about home!
