Peaked T waves (more than 2/3 the height of the R wave) may be seen in the early stages of AMI. Within a short time the T waves will invert. A flat ST depression segment results from subendocardial infarction or digitalis. ST elevation is the earliest reliable sign that MI has occurred (STEMI). It is also seen in ventricular hypertrophy and pericarditis. Pericarditis yields a ST elevated segment that is flat or concave, the latter gradually angling back down to the next QRS.

st elevation is indicative of necrosis, or (death of the miocardial tissue) AKA an Infarct.. or yes, in lay terms a heart attack
