as usual we see the same criticisms against Renata the voice is too this way or that way ,should have done this or that. Just listen objecly to the sound the sheer clarity and purity of it and then wonderat the same time it is sumptious and rich in harmonicsand huge!!! this is not some recording fraud the micraphone does not lie, and her last american concert in 1976 , you hear this piece even better than the recording. remember those top notes are Bflats!!
IN THE XIX AND PART OF THE XX CENTURY THE OPERAS WERE COMMONLY TRANSLATED. HOW MANY LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR AND TRAVIATE ETC. I HAVE HEARD IN ENGLISH. BUT THAT IS NOT IMPORTANT. UNTIL THE SIXTIES CARMEN WAS ALWAYS SUNG AND BECAME POLPULAR ALL OVER THE WORLD IN ITALIAN. SO LET RENAT SING IN ITALIAN....
Ugh did she even record one aria in French in her life? Even if her French was terrible I think this aria in Italian is worse! I'm posting this by Ponselle.
even though she is not too sure if she is mezzo or soprano, when it comes to the language I find it better that she sings it in a comfortable italian rather than in a very bad french

Must be the fastest performance on wax. Pretty good to get a conductor who completely misunderstands the piece.

The acute notes are ugly, as usual, and I am not even sure this aria is not transposed by half a tone...

Regardless of the fact that its not in French its wonderful that she at least recorded the music.

Dommage qu'elle chante cette oeuvre en italien. Ce ne sont plus les mêmes dynamiques qu'en français!

@VinylToVideo I think she sang a Romeo and Juliette with Corelli... Both of them sound like there singing in an invented language!

Fantastic.Tebaldi should have sung Alceste by that time around 1975 as her last role before retiring

Three main problems with this:
1. It's in Italian, which doesn't work.
2. Temp is way too fast.
3. It's Tebaldi

It does not work as well in Italian, either for the listener or the singer. This is not Tebaldi at her wonderful best.

Of course : this is her last studio recording (1974) from the baroque LP with Bonynge (1975).
