  • Very good job explaining this, is there anyway you can play it without logic playing?

  • @rsvltmusic Thanks, I'm not aware of a way of hearing the Arp without Logic being in play, maybe someone else will chip in ?

    James

  • If you add a chord memorizer to that same channel strip in the environment you can actually choose which keys are played back in the arpeggiator...i found that useful.

  • @TheTubeLawyer Ooh, I've never tried that, one for the list.

    Thanks for the tip.

    James

  • Great tutorial. Thanks a lot!

  • @Storbashi Very pleased you liked it, thanks for commenting.

  • Hey man,

    I have a question:

In dance music today, it is very common to have swung arpeggiation but I can't seem to find the 'swing' option...

its been irritating, why are the only options straight 16ths etc, I want swing 16c options like in the quantise section.

  • @frazmatazzzz I'm not aware of, doesn't mean there isn't, a way to automatically generate swung arpeggios in Logic. Without adding anything external to Logic I'd play my arps in manually then quantise to my chosen musical subdivision. Obviously there's third party soft synths that have a plethora of arpeggiation options, Omnisphere and Albino spring to mind. But they are both "paid for" so approach with the appropriate scepticism!

    James

  • @skywardism Glad to do it, thanks for taking the time to comment.

    James

  • for some reason when i bounce my track the audio from the arpeggiator that i recorded is played as if it were not run thru the arpeggiator why is this?

  • @TheNewCons Do a real time bounce and it should work fine. If it's not that come back to me and we'll try again.

    James

  • thanx dude very helpful video :)

  • @TheTashinga Thanks for the comment. Pleased you liked the video.

    James

  • i cant right click on the track?

  • @nitzy101 Are you using an add on mouse ? Does right clicking work elsewhere in Logic ( and in general ) ? If you have no right click facility ctrl clicking will work in most instances.

    James

  • @JamesAndrewMuir hi i sorted it thanks, you can drag the arpeggiator from the environment window straight onto the arrange window to create a new track!

  • @nitzy101 Cool, glad you got it sorted.

    James

  • You have a cat! 1:37 :)

  • @steelmarco She's desperate to make the break into show business, so every time there's a live mic she's there.

    James

  • When I click on the down arrow no instruments pop up. Why?

  • @danjonila Sorry not following the question, if you can be more specific I'll try to help.

    James

  • Could you please explain how i can save the sample wich i made with the arpeggiator?

  • @joristermors Hi, do you mean turn the section created by the Arp into audio ? In which case you might want to take a look at my videos titled "Logic 8 Bounce Export" which are on my channel. The same process works fine for Logic 9.

Let me know if that's it ? Otherwise we'll try again.

    James

  • great tutorial ,why when i go to make a second track to ad arp. it wont let me right click to select arp.?

  • @jtmusicgroup1 Sorry, do you mean that it won't right click ? Or when you right click there's no option to to select the Arp ?

    James

  • Thanks for making this clear and easy, really helped. C

  • @RiotMode1 Excellent, pleased to hear it was of use.

    James

  • thanks for making this easy

  • @JAhmadmusic Brilliant, I'm glad it worked for you !! I confuse myself much of the time, so your reassurance is gratifying !!

    Thanks.

    James

  • thanx alot James- i really appreciate it!!!! From Brooklyn, New York- Duces

  • @diodoro73 Glad you liked it!! Always nice to hear from the other side of the world.

    James

  • my arpeggiator won't play from beat one. even 1/768th later is Ok, and I have a work-around, but I was wondering if there's a solution.

  • @1952AA Sorry not come across that one! For what it's worth I always start my songs one or two bars in. Maybe that's why I don't have that issue.

    James

  • THANK YOU !!! proper instruction

  • @dddtorro Cheers! Glad you liked it.

  • Hello

What is What does the "2nd cycle pass" option do? I've read the following:

(Bounce 2nd Cycle Pass checkbox: The bounce process takes two repetitions of the cycle range into account, with the creation of the bounce file starting at the second repetition. This is useful if you want effect tails (from the first cycle pass) to be added to the start of the bounce file")

    What does this mean??

  • @HOODYWOODRECORDS It means if you have a fx "ringing out" at the end of bounce it'll add it to the beginning of the next pass. Sound on Sound said.

"The cryptic ‘Bounce 2nd Cycle Pass’ option creates the bounce file on the second pass and allows you to add the effects tail to the start of the bounce — though why you may want to do this, I have no idea!"

Which I totally agree with! The only function I can think of would be for making looped samples but that's complete guess work. I ignore it!

  • Please, I need help with my arpeggiator,

This is my issue, I have my arpeggiator working fine but when I bounce the song down it does not show up in the bounce? I am totally stumped I don't know what I'm doing wrong? any help or suggestions would be much appreciated

  • @HOODYWOODRECORDS See my reply to dtck34 (below) and what version of Logic are you on ?

    James

  • @JamesAndrewMuir OMG! that totally worked!! Thanks!!!:-) I owe you one big time!

I've been racking my brain trying to figure it out, I never would have had I not reached out to the youtube community (JamesAndrewMuir your freaking awesome!)

    Thanks!

    Hoodywood

  • @HOODYWOODRECORDS Cool, glad you got it sorted! What specifically worked ?

That way if it comes up again I'll know what to advise.

    James

  • @JamesAndrewMuir "bouncing it live" did the trick

  • @HOODYWOODRECORDS Brilliant, I always bounce live hence I hadn't come across this, now I know for the future.

    James

  • I have the arpeggiator working great except when i try to bounce the song to itunes the arpeggiator doesnt seem to show up for some reason. If you could help thatd be great thanks!

  • @dtck34 Sorry for answering a question with a question(s). Are you bouncing in real time ? Can you hear the arpeggiator part during a real time bounce ? Could you just bounce or export the arpeggiator track and drop it back into the arrange as audio ?

    James

  • you use screen recording software for this turtorial right? it does not work for me. it will record my voice but not the instruments ....any advice?

  • @GhettoPunktual

Not sure how it'll work in your setup, it took a lot of experimenting to get it to work on mine. Basically I use soundflower to route the audio from Logic to the screencast application.

    James

  • Nice video. Thanks:)

  • @CAMOPEJB

Glad you liked it, thanks for taking the time to comment.

    James

  • thanks - clear and concise!

  • @Dermbet

Thanks for taking the time to get in touch, glad you found it helpful.

    James

  • Am I missing something? I tried to "right click" to get to

"reassign track object" and nothing comes up. I'm using a MacBook Pro. Is this the problem, as it doesn't work in the "right click/left click" world of PCs? Is there another way of find this?

  • Hi Spitfire.

Without knowing your exact situation a few questions and a thought. Are you using an add on mouse ? Does right clicking work elsewhere in Logic ( and in general ) ? If you have no right click facility ctrl clicking will work in most instances.

    James

  • Been trying to figure out where i was going wrong with this and thanks to your video, i found that i was not reassigning the track to the arpeggiator in the arrange window (whoops).

Oh and at 2:58, its actually the LEFT side of the screen! But i can forgive that for you helping me solve my problem. Thanks a lot, much appreciated.

  • Hi

Thanks for getting in touch, glad it helped. I'll double check the error, apologies if it caused any problems,

  • Hi

I've personally never tried it with an external synth but I can't see why it wouldn't work, you'll have to do the virtual cabling in the midi layer of the environment though.

    Good luck.

    James

  • Comment removed

  • Good luck.

    James

  • sussed it . thanks for the luck ,hehe . was so simple , all in the clicks and ports part of the environment, you can throw anything between the main input and the sequencer input and it triggers midi . cheers

  • Excellent !! Glad you got it sorted.

    James

  • once i have the arpeggiator working on a single track how do i turn it off for the next track i want to add?

  • Not quite sure I'm following the question. The arpeggiator is only on the audio instrument that the virtual cable is attached to. So if you create a new audio instrument there should be no arpeggiator object. If you want to delete an arpeggiator click on the arpeggiator object in the environment page and press the back space key.

  • thanx james ! apple dudes are insane for making it so un-straightforward to set up

have they even ever used an arpegiator @ apple ?

    jesus

  • If they made it too easy I'd be out of a job ( hobby ) !!

    Thanks for getting in touch.

    James

  • really helpful, thanks very much

  • Thanks, much appreciated.

    James

  • Thank You! I can finally use the logic arpeggiator!!!!

  • No worries, happy to do it. Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see ? I'll do my best.

    James

  • Hi James,

Thanks for the video, I might be missing something obvious and this comment could sound stupid but, would it be easier to use an arpeggiator effect plugin? Is there such thing as this?

    Thanks again,

    Sam...

  • Hi Sam

Glad you liked the video, Logic doesn't have an arpeggiator plug-in, some third party synth plug-ins have built in arps and depending on what sound you want they could be more useful.

    James

  • Hi

    Thanks for the kind words.

To the best of my knowledge you can't use your own grooves. Spectrasonic's Omnisphere has this kind of feature but it's pricey.

    James

  • hey man, good videos, i'm newish 2 logic and find the last two i've watched have helped alot, i've jus got a wee question about the arpeggiator, i was wandering do u know if u can use your groove templates with it?

    cheers for these vids.
