I think if I had never heard the originals, I'd have thought this was a very good tune. But "very good" pales in comparison to the wonderfully intimate and beautifully haunting Johnny Cash version, which I think improves on the NIN original quite a bit. But there's enough skill and talent evident to foster a first-rate Starman, instead of a second-rate Cash/Reznor.

I liked vocal and how it appears in minimalistic acoustic setting, also timing is allright, however not the expression - as noted elsewhere it is "into the light", but not "from the darkness". With proper emotional color for voice that would be good cover - enjoyed listening this version too, though, but it is not the one to believe message of it, as it ruined concept of the original.

I think the song lost most of it's dark vibe in your version ,but you do have a great voice and i really loved the last part (about last 30s or so) where you play really nicely with the timing, so good job with the cover (keep 'em coming please), and two thumbs up for clip. just one small remark - this song was written by Trent Renzor (Nine Inch Nails)at '94, johnny cash only released a cover at '02

thanks for taking time out to listen - can I ask what made it a poor cover for you? - my idea was to change the timing of the original song - I have been a little restricted on the backing as its just a karaoke backing....but my idea was to merge the vocal timing with the original NIN version of the song and try and create an offset - so it didn't feel like Cash.any help to make this a better cover would be much appreciated as i'm working on a cover album of Neil Young songs - cheers J :)

The chord progression is dark-sounding but your vocals sound too joyous and hopeful, and it makes for a strange feel. Just my opinion :) But hey, you do have an incredible voice

WOW! thanks for such a comparison - I'm not sure about how I have arranged this vocally but it was important for me to NOT imitate someone like Cash. I've never been comfortable with the song - even back in its original form by NiN - but I'm starting to like how different it feels - even with it only being a backing track - cheers for the listen

I dont know how this version of the song came about really - Its not a song I had listened to very much by Cash - If anything, I think that fact really helped make it a little different to his. I'm really known on my channel as a bit of a belter to Rock/blues and soul - but I can never resist the urge to sing softer over an acoustic guitar. Thankyou for giving me such attention here.
