  • I owned and lived in a TK 220 for seven years, had to change the cab and gearbox but my truck was the dogs bollocks, best truck in the world. It was reliable, economic, great to drive and did I mention RELIABLE. What`s more that truck would start up first time even on the coldest mornings. Sure Albions and AEC`s are nice but give me a TK any day!

  • which year is it from? I got a tk from 1975 :D

  • to be fair the TK wasn't a briliant lorry

  • What was wrong with a TK then ??

  • @Britcenturion granted it wasn't the best place to spend a 48 hour week in but even if it wasn't "brilliant" they sold oodles of them and they were a very common sight on British roads in the 60s 70s.

  • ARGHHH,nightmare, had to maintain fleet of these,330 straight 6 ,crap used to overheat and blow head gaskets, clutch and brake pedal bushes wear for a pastime, same with gear linkage, but cheap

  • Did later TK'S have perkins in them. I wonder if the fl6 volvo truck was inspired by the beford tk the cab's look similar.

  • The Bedford TL which was made after Bedford finished by AWD which had a Perkins Phaser engine.

  • TK Bedfords were great! Very advanced for the time.

  • I agree, lovely Bedford music!

  • Very, very late model TKs (around 1984/5) had perkins phaser diesels, older ones would have bedfords own inline 6

  • Lovely Bedford TK 'music'!

I always remember that distinctive air compressor noise from way back, when I was a little boy in the 70s, when I used to spend a lot of time in a boatyard, which used a TK to transport boats to and from the yard.

The process of loading and unloading boats from the trailer could take half an hour or more, and during that time the engine would be idling and 'plop plopping' away! :-)

  • the air compressor nois is the distinctive plop plop plop you start to hear as he goes round the side and near the flap on the cab.

  • you can hear the air compressor running .

the 330" is a bedford engine,as far as my manual says the only non bedford engines fitted in 69 where leylands...

  • and 330's are definitelt bedford it's written in huge letters on the top of the rocker cover

  • these trucks used to have a perkins engine although some also had a bedford diesel. the larger tk s had a perkins 6.354 engine...........i thought it was also perkins......... my mistake.. :-) any idea how much cc ?...

  • That old Beddie sounds great - brings back memories.

    Bedford trucks built our country.

  • one of the best british trucks that were built......... with a reliabe perkins engine....... ran 4 ever

  • perkins ????? think you will find is a bedford engine a 330

  • sounds well for an old truck :)

  • the tk was one of the best trucks ever made.A real british workhorse.Ran for ever.Thank you for posting.
