once you cut the sleeves off, before you staple the bottom you are supposed to fold it the other way, so that the sleeves actually turn into handles...

You could try this, and sew in some sort of lining instead of duck tape.

Then cude the end (bottom of the shirt) to make it shorter and then the neck together.
