Some people try Win98 compatibility when they have the lag and then try all the other answers and forget they have win98 compatibility on and then turn off win98 compatibility and all works well. That's what i did! :)
I'm thinking about buying a new laptop this week: Pentium P6100, GeForce GT420M, a bit anxious about how it will perform, or if I will be better of with an Corei3 370M, Radeon HD5470 build for being able to continue playing IE games
DnD Roleyplayer, it would help people a lot if you post the specs for your machine along with the video. It very much depends on the specific setup of the machine if Baldur's Gate or other Infinity Engine games run well.
My settings in BGII (in BGConfig): Hardware Acceleration off, Software Transparant BLT off, 16 bit colors.
Try running the game with one processor i dont know if your 1st machine has dual or not mine has 4 and some older games get lag until i set the affinity to 1 processor only mainly thief 1 and thief 2 wont run at all until i do that, I dont have the game so i cant help you yet.
Thanks man! However I wasn't kidding about the bags issue. As soon as I drop the scroll cases, potion cases, and BOHs the game runs smoothly. It's the most irritating thing ever! To make up for the game being inherently and irrevocably bugged, I used Dale Keeper to give my characters Strong Back. Perhaps unbalanced, but in light of the bags not functioning I actually think it is less 'Munchkinny' than a bag that can hold >100 Full Plate Armors and weigh only 15lbs\kgs.
I get a similar problem, but only when spells are being cast. Regular gameplay is fine, but I had black blocks surrounding most static sprites and floating dialog in 32bit color, so i had to reduce to 16bit. The stuttering I get for magic casting though is not nearly as bad as yours... Perhaps trying 16bit would help?
I found out the problem. I had gained about 5 bags which I kept in my inventory. Throwing them away one by one reduced and eventually removed the lag completely for that particular area.
To proceed lag-free I will have to continue without any bags. Picking them up will return the lag once again. Odd but endurable.

I get this problem on and off with IWD; sometimes it's fine, other times it freezes every 2 seconds or so.

Ive tried about everything except installing Windows 98 again. It should be at least playable.
