@TheGlitterCupcakes hello there... so after you do your chain you want to work into the loops of the chain to make your first row...if you can tell me exactly where your stuck I can try to explain it better to you let me know....Cathy@ The Crochet Crowd Helpdesk :)
@mikeyssmail Well i'm at the end of my first row i'm trying to start a new row but when I go into the loops that are already made it gets really tight. Is that what i'm suppose to do like go back through all the loops?
@TheGlitterCupcakes hi :) yes you go back through the chain stitch you made but sounds like yours are tooo tight try loosening up your chain stitches a bit and see if that helps when you go back over it to put stitches in it.....it takes time to get the stitches just right but you are doing great!!!! :) I am going to post another video on your youtube page to help you .....Cathy
@CassyDietrich hello....It really depends on what sz blanket you want to make.....if you have a blanket in your house thats the same size as the blanket you want to make hold your chain up to that to measure against it....hope that helps....Cathy@The Crochet Crowd Helpdesk.....:)
@bossylady1127 Nope....just tie a secure knot and continue .....usually the knot will hide itself in the stitches or you can move it between some stitches and you'll never know its there.....cathy@mikeys helpdesk :)
@bossylady1127 hey.... if your not going into the very last stitch of the rows that may be causing the ends to be uneven or if the edges aren't to bad ,they should be pretty much straight, but not perfect.....thats normal.....cathy @mikeys helpdesk :)
@bossylady1127 Unless the pattern or tutorial you are following says other wise.... if your doing a double crochet you chain 3 at the end....if your doing a half dc then you do a chain 2....it does matter to get the height of your stitches right.....hope that helps.... Merry Christmas.....Cathy@ Mikey's heldpesk :)
how do i add more stitches to the width of a blanket. I'm creating one and i'm 1/4 into it and realized it's not wide enough :( so is there any way to add more stitches to make it wider, not longer?
OMG this was soo helpful! I had tried making a blanket just on my own and I left out making the two stitches before starting a new row and it turned out bad! Thanks so much! I will try it this way and hopefully make a nice blanket for the winter time! :D
I got to say for a man you rock at this. I was able to pick up pretty easy and I love the fact that you can do so many design I hope I become as good as you.
Okay, so why in the world when I do a chain stitch, are the two stitches that I'm supposed to hook back through on the BOTTOM every time I do this? This is absolutely frustrating and I'm ready to give up!!! What the heck am I doing wrong???
@HeyThereImNikkie.....hello..... you need to change colors and there is a tutorial to show you how.....if you look up "how to change colors without knots mikeyssmail".....a tutorial will pop up and should help you on your way.....cathy@mikeys helpdesk :0)
@.@ all this is giving me a stomach ache...wait that might be the pizza i ate :P anyways it's still a bit difficult DX but i will eventually get it :)
Thank you!!! Thank you! Thank you!!!!! I am actually doing this, it was so clearly explained and i am on my third row right now, working on my first baby's blanket! You have not idea how much this means to me!
Mikey I not sure how to email you, so I will write it here. I can single, double and triple crochet. Ya me. But when I try to make something I get to many stitches. Spicificly when i am joining at a slip knot. The plan was to do a rectangle, ch 10, dc with a dc2 ch2 dc2 corners. I think the problem is that because the row starts and ends in a corner. Could you show me how to do a rectangle That does not start with a circle center?
@DizzyIzzyization if you do a chain of stitches the sz you want your blanket and go back and forth with a dc, sc or hdc stitch or combo of any of them and finish your rows when you have the size you want the other way too you will have a blanket! hope that makes sense.....
@mikeyssmail Yes I can do that I was just trying to do something different. Example: Two huge Granny Squares, to make one single size blanket. I was trying to do it in a rectangle instead of square. My difficulty lies when joining the end of the row and starting the next. I know it something simple that I am doing wrong but for the love of crochet I cant figuire out.
@DizzyIzzyization I did bit more exploring, your extreme granny squares answered my prayers, the chain two before slip stitch set things all proper. Now I can do what I want. Thanks again and keep the good work up! :)
@mikeyssmail I started a few rows of my blanket, but I noticed the bottom looks tighter than the other rows, so it kind of pulls inward at the bottom if that makes sense. Does this mean I made my chain to tight?
@jendancer916 you may have changed your tension/ how tight you were making your stitches as you were going.......consistency come with lots and lots of practice..... chanel@ mikeys helpdesk.... :)
Thank you so much!! I finally got it with your tutorial! :D Using yellow yarn makes it so much clearer in camera too. I'm starting a blanket for my baby now :)
My name is Christy too so it's like you made this for me. ;) This makes a lot of sense and I'm so glad you made this video. My only problem is that I'm left handed so I this doesn't really work for me. When I try to go back and start the second row it just doesn't look the way yours does. I wish more lefties would post easier videos, I'm having a heck of a time!
I think it's so sexy for a man to be able to crochet ! You are so cute !
Thank you for posting and sharing your video with all of us ! Now if only more men like you would be brave enough to make a video like you did for us ladies ! 5 Stars
@rbca01 ok this is kind hard to explain. if you make the chain the sz you want and then add 2 stitches then go into the 4th stitch from the hook so you have 3 stitches that make up your 1st post/ stitch the 2nd post will be the stitch you make in the 4th hole from the hook then keep going across...once you have the posts established (the yarn under the holes or stitches) then you just want to line them up.....hope this helps chanel@mikeys helpdesk :)
@mikeyssmail I have a question...what if your crocheting with two yarns instead of one? So when you go through the next loop instead of going through just one you would go through two right?
To the girl who said you dont have a wife.. Grow up.. As far as your video goes, Its one of the clearest Ive seen. You do it so simple yet it seems so hard to me. I would like to crochet but I'm not sure I would be able to. lol
Thank you for taking the time to post this video so far you are the only one who has spoken about the chain and the first row clear and concise and you went slowly thanks you're a good teacher!
im 12 yrs. old so i should be able to get this! ugh i started crocheting when i was 3 and couldnt get how to make a blanket, and it seems i still can't. even though u have clear directions.
@Theawesomelizzy12 Hey.... ya know.... PLEASE dont give up!!!! 1st you have to practice your stitches and get them even! Hi! i am a beginning crocheter. i learned to chain from my mom but all the rest form you, your videos are extremely helpful. i am starting a blanket and was wondering what kind of stitch this is and if i need the size hook you are using. i use a size H hook, will you be making a video on how to connect the squares.
@TheRubioryan2616 this is a video showing the double crochet and it looks like mikey is using a k size hook... you can use different size hooks for things...patterns usually call for different size hooks smaller hooks=smaller stitches and bigger hooks=bigger stitches! if you search on you tube there r vidoes on connecting squares in a couple different ways!
@kpatuk I think he's using a k sz hook here but i learned with a j sz little smaller and easier to hold for me any sz will do to learn and then for projects look for hook sz pattern calls for!
I still don't get it...this is wayyy to confusing \: I might be dumb but this is like brain hurting! I eman I can chrochet but I am trying to learn how to make a blanket and thisust confused meeee! sorry...):
I can't seem to understand how you're connecting the first row to create the second row. Help please... thank you for explaining everything so slowly for people like me. :)
Ive tried to start a blaket twice and I keep haveing problems with it like bowing at the ends like going ovell it dosent stay square . I dont understand . I just beging crochet so thats my problem please tell me how i can help by not doing that . My name is Suanne please help.lol
yes Mikey's has now the option to translate instructions in spanish , I'm one of his help desk rep. and I will love to help you with the translation .
Let me watch the video and get back to you by email.
@doctorlululove Im not sure f Mikey speaks Spanish ? maybe she could just watch the video and learn from what he does rather than what he says ? just a suggestion :O)
ok, so i have been doing it wrong, haha. i always watched my grandmother crochet, and i thought i'd taught myself correctly, but i keep getting confused about whether i'm ending a row correctly. i've never seen it done like that. since i'm pretty well into this, should i start something new now? it's straight so far, but i've been having to go back and undo rows to fix it.
I like this stitch. I only knew the basic one when my grandma tought me how several years ago. I luckly picked up quickly on this. but I bought a kinda of yarn thats like the norm, but really soft, and it looks like it has lint on it or its starting to fray...and I cant really crochet with it. is it possible? and if so, any suggestions?
What size hook would you suggest to make a wrap using this stitch? I just want somethng to have to wrap around my shoulders when I go out or to church when it is a little cool.
im a emo and me and mi frinds dont need to use that kind of a stick we just use are fingers and taada u have a blanket cheak out mi vids on my chanllanle XD thx xd
I wish you'd go a lot slower on the part where you're making the top row, and it'd be so much better if there was a way to get a super close-up, but i repeated the video several times, and I think I'm starting to understand. thanks for posting.
actually, this is not our lesson cause this is for the 4th yr. but i rili want to try to do it...
and i bought a crochet hook and some strings but the crochet hook is soo much smaller than yours and also the string is so thin,,,i'm gonna try and do it now...^_^
you make it look so easy HAHAHA if probably start it and be like FORGET IT i dont know what im doing and just stop lol. i might see if my mom knows how and can teach me too. the vid helped alot tho. my mom is making me a blanket for my daughter whos due to be born june 7th but yeah id like to make something. maybe a hat or even a blanket=)
Great tutorial! I have been struggling with Crochet for a while and I have been watching your videos, this takes it right back to basics! Thank you! I seem to have my edges rounding rather than having a solid square is this normal? If not could I possibly remedy this with a border? Xx
OMG, I'm amaze to see that a guy know how to crochet. My son is now determinated to be more proactive on crafting with me (he's 9) Keep doing it no matter what the stupids Machistas says. (even this could be a turn on for some chicks) ;) BTW, this could be a good way to film some videos for your daughthers oandd sons for the future
okay, im doing something wrong. I think I have the wrong kind of yarn or my hooks are took little because when I try to get the string through two of the hoops I have to set it down and tug them over it
this video helped me alot....my friend was trying to teach me how to crochet cause im having a baby and i was getting so frusterated. but i get it now! im so happy! im working on a baby blanket now! :D
please show me something that will help me get pass the first row l love your videos so much I start it don't look right so i take it apart i think you have the best videos i wish you lived in Indiana
thanks so much Mikey!! I have read so many books on how to crochet, and they just confused me. Other ppl go way too fast and that makes it hard for begginers. I watched one of your vidoes, and i was crocheting that day. I love your videos! Thank you soo much for taking the time to make these for us! :D :D :D
after seeing this video , I learned how to crochet for the first time in my life. Thanks Mikey! you're the best! Everyone, watch his other videos, he is really, really good! you can clearly understand him, the contrast in his vids are perfect. And he's not only instructing you but he does all the stitches step by step. btw..the chain is a perfect size Mikey, it allows us to see where to stitch without having to guess. Mikey is My new favorite person this year! hugs and kisses mike:)
mine started made me laugh cus was trying 2 knit b4 and coudnt cast on to start and this is wat i did lol its pretty easy when u get the hang of it try watching crocheting a flower very eassy and helpfull xlet me no if u need help xx
I usually use a size K nearly all the time unless I say otherwise... I find the size is just perfect for blankets, and other various projects... when it comes to kids stuff, it's best to get a smaller size. :)
this is very helpful thank you for this video i no how make this baby booties that a really warm and i call them snow booties cause there warm enough to go out into the snow i have made a few i will have show you them some time thank you Mikey you have helped me a lot you are such a nice person thank you very much

If you r asking for a spanish speaking video.......Unfortunately mikey doesnt speak spanish!

ok, so i have been doing it wrong, haha. i always watched my grandmother crochet, and i thought i'd taught myself correctly, but i keep getting confused about whether i'm ending a row correctly. i've never seen it done like that. since i'm pretty well into this, should i start something new now? it's straight so far, but i've been having to go back and undo rows to fix it.
jennadenise84 1 year ago
@jennadenise84 you can always make a unfinished blanket into a scarf or wrap :)
I would suggest making a new one :)

I wish you'd go a lot slower on the part where you're making the top row, and it'd be so much better if there was a way to get a super close-up, but i repeated the video several times, and I think I'm starting to understand. thanks for posting.

Hi Mike!
Great tutorial! I have been struggling with Crochet for a while and I have been watching your videos, this takes it right back to basics! Thank you! I seem to have my edges rounding rather than having a solid square is this normal? If not could I possibly remedy this with a border? Xx

you don't need a wife in order to crochet. :) You just have to have self determination.

thanks so much Mikey!!

Hey what size hook are you using and what are the most commonly used sizes?
missmorgan04 2 years ago
I usually use a size K nearly all the time unless I say otherwise... I find the size is just perfect for blankets, and other various projects... when it comes to kids stuff, it's best to get a smaller size. :)
