  • listening to his videos i always thought he was black..

  • fuck me i remember some guy came to my house when i was just starting high school with a program called maths magic, similiar to the khan academy exercise dashboard starting from grade 1 - 12. It cost about $9000 which my parents didn't have. Now i'm in university and this shit is out for FREE!! xD

  • What's great about this man's work and why no one should say anything bad about it is that it is FREE. ABSOLUTELY FREE. HE IS A GENIUS AND A LEGEND.

  • Sal's actually a fucking genius! Amen!

  • Khan Academy is a gift. I can't understand the critics saying crap like that won't get you a job for instance. What kind of stupid argument is that? I like this site a lot, thanks to the team that made this possible!

  • This is truly amazing. I can't wait to see how far this will go. I congratulate you Mr. Academy ;-).

  • God I love Sal

  • I like sal's voice :P

  • I used Khanacademy in eighth grade, all my high school years, and now am in college and still use it. This man needs a Nobel prize.

  • @heyyodoug Straight As?

  • @idiotrun1997 what?

  • im in 9th grade and already know calculus thanks to sal :)

  • if this by whatever chance is actually successful this'll be HUGE

  • ♫can't totch this.. .duuuu du du du... duuuuuuu duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...♫

  • Awesome Videos !!!!!

  • John Cusack is the only reason I ever even heard of Dylan Ratigan-and also the reason I started following him on Twitter, but Dylan Ratigan is even more intense than John Cusack. That's pretty intense.

But I LIKE John Cusack. I don't understand Dylan Ratigan, I'm just trusting JC.

  • this so needs more views

  • You are the man sal!

  • Help always comes late... :(

  • I never studied for a math test, or at least not much, I wanted to see what I capture from class, watch the results in the exam and master my deficiencies I didn't really care about my grades, I care about my knowledge.

  • I prefer to do homework at school, never really liked doing homework at home.

  • hahah IS IT GOOD FOR AMERICA? no! because it lets the students think for themselves!

  • @valeo626 Go to college, it is exactly like that.

  • I think Dylan Ratigan has a great big mouth that, unfortunately, never wants to stay closed.

Other than that, I like the interview.

  • 4 dropouts found this video.

  • GOD BLESS YA SAL KHAN!!

  • To say that Sal is fantastic is an understatement! I have personally completed all his lessons on advanced calculus and linear algebra and, believe me, this guy is the pied piper of mathematics. He can explain the most complex topics such that almost anyone can undersatnd them. He should be in charge of all teaching in the US and the world. If he were, the productivity level of humanity would skyrocket. Sal is a humble genius who is doing a world of good. Good luck to him!

  • You don't have to do all of this to fix education . Get rid of the teacher unions and you will solve 90% of all the problems in education .

  • The idea is wonderful. However, as a teacher myself, I worry about the students who have no access to internet or even a computer at home let alone watch Youtube videos. These are the students that are struggling at school and at home on a daily basis. I do think that Sal's idea is very innovative, but will be extremely difficult to implement in certain area with socioeconomic problems.

  • @wcsummer tru dat

  • Comment removed

  • You can tell how intelligent sal is just by the way he speaks and explains himself

  • Just get rid of government run and funded schools.

  • I think the Khan Academy is a brilliant way to improve education

  • Sal is humble but he's brilliant!

  • This episode of the Dylan Ratigan Show brought Khan Academy to my attention. It's AMAZING. Thanks, Sal!

  • 1 man is able to do a state's amount of teacher's work, by himself... Why can't all our teachers be this amazing? Imagine where we'd be...

  • i must say that if they pass this LUNA plan in idaho then i want my online classes done by you.

  • Sal, I , love, you. (platonic love, I assure you) ... If I was a girl though, I would love you both ways.

  • Hey Government, I've got an idea, how about not spending billions of pounds on stupid smart-boards which don't even begin to engage us, and instead donate that wasted money into Sal's dream, I'd rather be learning from Sal than 'interacting' on a so called smart board.

  • I love the concept of Khan Academy, but I wonder if it will work as well for subjects such as history, literature, and English composition, where the ability to write essays and term papers is important.

  • Khan Academy is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm so happy for Sal :) I really want to see this implemented globally one day

  • SAL!! please go on the Daily Show or Colbert Report or any other talk show. You'll be able to reach way more kids that way

  • but wouldn that lower the wages for teachers?

  • @Shift4chizzle teaching profession shall become a thing people study in History books. Teachers shall eventually become extinct and all people shall have to teach themselves/

  • @MatrixOfDynamism shall shall shall shall shall, lol joking, yeah that is true,

  • @Shift4chizzle

    The bad ones yes

  • hi

  • LoL finland...

  • its not gonna work, do you know why? because I don't work at home due to distractions!

  • dude slowly drag the time ball thing after 3:39

  • Tokyo has the highest population with 34.2 million people living there.

  • Thumbs up if you think Sal deserves a nobel prize!!

  • @127miles too right mate

  • @127miles fuuuuk A!!

  • Sal, you have helped me out so much through my Calc and differential equation courses, thank you. I hope you rule the universe one day.

  • @oexnorth hAHAHA hillarious comment man ! made my day

  • I truly believe that our American students are not "stupid" they just lack interest in education. Once again this is not because they are dumb in anyway, it's because a majority of the time the are being "taught" by passionless tenured individuals who also lack interest in education. I stand behind Sal and all his workings.

  • Sal is my GOD.

  • @filipe3x

He is not a god. He won't be able to save you when you die.

  • @stainermcbain Sal is a god, i dont need saving after i am dead, i only need to be saved while i am alive and Sal is the salvation :)

  • @stainermcbain hahaha there is no need to be saved when you are dead dummy... maybe you should visit the khan academy more and learn something :P

  • It just makes more sense! You don't really get to ask questions during lecture and when you go home to do homework there is nobody there to help you out.

  • The host of this show is rubbish, but Salman Khan may be the savior of American education.

  • shanghai is not a country!

  • @MEGIDIOT they never referenced "country" in that statistic. that aside, if shanghai were a country, it'd be more populous than belgium. it's the most populated city in the world...

  • @MEGIDIOT it's a city in China, ya we know that.

  • This is solid work by Kahn, but I think they should be wary of its implementation by the hardcore "cost cutter" administrations. They might just decide that "all we need is one person looking at the graph chart software of 500, 1000, or however many students, since students are teaching each other we don't need teachers, so let's get the software and fire everyone" - which in an ideal world you wouldn't even need the guy monitoring the software, but when you consider learning styles...

  • well done great work by khan

  • 3 dislikes don't like Learning, WANKING is all the do All Daaaaaaaaaay.

  • I don't know, but i think Sal is the man that has been teaching me chemistry. Inspiring stuff, this is the future of education. Thank you Khan academy!

    John.

  • I found your method interesting but I'm not sure I like it, In terms of, what it actually represents is not clear from this video, could you point to where can we find additional information about that? thanks.

  • Great Idea! I love your videos, and have been subscribed sence 2006. Will this work for teaching medical information? With the health care crisis in America we are in desperate need. Would there be too many leagal problems? Thank you very much!

  • GOOD FOR AMERICA!!.

but. what if a country preemptively needed more physicist (just an example), they would increase the points you get for studying physics videos for 5th graders so that in 10 years they would have more physicist.

    mass control!!! just a thought.

    but i support your work!!

  • @VmanLee that sort of thing has always been the case. every age has more use for some talents and less for others. when society considers a talent useful to itself, it rewards those who have it, while others have to fall back on basic skills like delivery jobs to make a living. back in the day, actors were despised. those with brilliant mathematical ability lived as poor scholars or teachers. now the latter group is relatively better off, but the social status of entertainers has skyrocketed.

  • I have watched heaps of Sal's videos before. Today I was sitting in Biology and my friend and I were watching one of his video because our teacher didn't explain it well. Now we get it!

  • i learned more in math than i ever did in school. i learned through khan enough to pass my calculus test for biology majoring..... i had forgotten everything up to that point. i had to go back and learn long division.

  • This. Is. History.

  • i mean i dont understand how stupid people on youtube doing stupid things on youtube gets millions of views AND gets paid for doing so and a guy like him who is doing such unselfish deed has only couple of tens of thousands of views per video. My INTUITIVE is that lots of people are dumb.

    KhanAcademy all day everyday =]

  • The biggest barrier will be the governments themselves. The dumbing down of our children is no accident. Ignorant people are much easier to control than the educated.

Excellent idea though. I hope it takes hold.

  • Not only my lips, but my heart starts to smile while u r on any tv show 4 interview.... I wish u go even further.

  • SaL is Busy in giving interviews... That is the reason y he is not uploading vids more frequently.

  • Wow anyone notice Sal has been all over the News lately?

  • seriously, thanks for clearing up the process of atp for me. your videos are clear and easy to follow!

  • His videos are excellent if you have been away sick from school, this technique sound perfect. (If human perfection was possible)

  • It will be hard for the UNION based teachers and school directors to buy in to programs that are in direct competition to their own... private programs similar to Khan Academy have been around for some time, only it's for-profit.

  • next bill gates

  • see we shouldnt have school at home that is useless cause i would play xbox all day...but intergrading Sals idea into schools would be great..essentially like this...every student has there own pod or area and they learn 1v1 with a video like sal produces. this will allow shorter lectures when 1v1 and more time for group activities..anybody want to add to my idea feel free

  • @ChillProductions1 Khan Academy is a good idea, but if you have lecture based learning from home 1) it standardized everyone to learning the exact same lecture, which doesn't foster diverse education 2) Home environment can be distracting for sub-par students, and if they don't learn the basic at home, how would they do the homework at school 3) classroom based homework can put unwanted pressure on students to finish within an allotted time, whereas traditional homework gives them more time

  • @SchiffRadiodotcom

    1) Not necessarily a bad thing, I recall having a disjointed math education, sometimes having a great engaging teacher, and other times having a teacher who was the complete opposite, or worse very difficult to understand.

    2) A challenge for homework / traditional based schooling as well, videos can be listened to at school though

    3) Well, it's pretty much at their own pace, and pressure to finish within allot time is a necessary skill to develop anyways.

  • You're my hero Sal. I love everything you're doing.

  • 7:027:14 that’s all that needs to be said to the 3 dumb asses who disliked this video.

  • @MarvelsofaLifetime

    hmrpfh.. ur mean

  • this is a great idea for reforming education. go Sal!

  • 100%

  • it's amazing what making videos for his cousins has turned into. :)

  • Everybody Loves Khan... get it because he looks like Raymond

  • Sal's way of teaching makes way more sense than the current way, we need to implement this into the country's standard way of teaching

  • Sal should stop going to all of these interviews to say the same things over and over and just send a USB drive with a video instead.

  • @Shadowriku40

Hehe. Yeah, he could upload the interview on Youtube, and they can replay it whenever they need! XD

  • @swedish89 Not yet, anyway.

  • My algebra teacher was better than Sal because he taught good learning habits as well as algebra. On the other hand, as with any hierarchical form of knowledge, once you got behind it was very difficult - but not impossible - to get caught up again. There is a point of no return where it is impossible to catch up with the course, but that usually doesn't happen.

  • Check out, all of it of course on goods websi

  • I wish I knew about Khan academy when I was still in high school. I probably would have graduated on time.

  • Khan is gonna replace every teacher in the world!!!

  • This is an extremely good idea that should work very well. The main issue is that how are these students going to transfer the way they learn at these school onto post high school education such as University where this teaching method is not used.

  • no need for overpriced college. make all education free.

    shut down the teachers union.

    free education for everyone.

sal khan is the best maths teacher i have had!

  • I like Sal. He is good.

  • I wish school was like this when I was in school.

  • Sal needs to stay true to his grass roots. I think his life story is awesome, he wants to help and is proving he can. Sal, remember why you helped your cousins and continue to apply that to your ".org "

Great work Sal, I watch your video to help myself, I am 34 years of age.

  • Barriers are only the interest of the students. The students , unfortunately, select themselves and no amount of social engineering will change natural percentages. The Ben guy was all about money and Dylan is just stuck at a bad network. Sal is bigger than them both because of his dedicated focus on content. The guy is always talking about problems and equations. Schools fail cuz morale is low because of race baiting by teachers and by media like MSNBC. it's why Khan is a better place

  • I wish i went to that school but all im concerned about as a highschool student is how does this flow into applications for college if all i have is a progress bar and no grade

  • If it wasnt for you, i wouldnt have passed math which has been my worst subject since elementry school, thank you<3

  • I don't get tired of hearing the story of the Khan Academy over and over...

  • lecutres as homework, homework in classroom. agree! student ask better question when they tried to do some exercises.

in the future, more lecturer can post videos and student can select which video they gonna watch, and may watch more than one lecture.

  • I wanna go to that school

  • this assumes that all homes are wired. some students may not be. Also it is great for children that are proactive but I can see some that will coast and skip the video lectures. But great that this is starting to come to many people's attention that we need to focus on education.

  • @AndrzejWLipski

I think for people of lower economic levels --computers and internet should be part of a benefits system--along with food stamps, health care--& maybe even an economic electric car that could be issued --so that poor, low income people could have transportation and not be overly dependent on bus schedules etc..

  • @catgumart Hit the mark well in the beginning, but derailed with the stupid car comment.

  • @vpletap

Sorry I wasn't trying to "hit any mark" I was expressing my thoughts- and I don't think the car idea is bad--also I think you are rude-and I don't appreciate your put down.

  • This is style of learning and setup is good for adults too--many adults around now --were those kids & not really always that long ago--who lacked structure at home, or had dysfunction, or were slower learners & failed or just barely passed--- we should not lose faith in people once they pass twenty one and condemn them to a life of menial jobs & ignorance we should promote learning at all levels--and this style can help adults who may not learn as well in the traditional way.

  • I'm in my second advanced math class and near the top thanks to Sal...More often than not, I find myself explaining to other students how to approach problems and concepts they should have learned in pre-calculus and calculus I, concepts they should have learned mastering the homework, lately I just refer them to KA...IMO corporations are prepared to donate like Google and Bill Gates have, but Sal has to continue to scale up and teachers unions have to be willing to break the mold...

  • Sal can you make a video teaching us how to dougie?

  • The 2 dislikes are from people who don't like to learn.

  • awsome, my UNI courses with lectures online have the highest marks, learning at your own pase really works...

  • Don't know how many more people will drop out of school if there's no Sal?

  • I am 2nd year undergraduate student, and I love your idea Khan, being able to master topics seems to be the most important thing. I would love to see some changes in educational system at the university level, but then again, universities basically exist only for credentials because it does not matter how you study the material, the only thing that matters is the grade on the transcript.

  • sal khan: the best damn thing to happen to education

  • Sal, you are a hero to not only me but hundreds and thousands of others around the world. I don't understand why they make top entrepreneurs and actors people of the year. It's people like you that deserve such recognition,

  • guys, I hadn't heard of these guys before, what's their website, is their work for free?

  • @Byron10301 yes, their account is the one that posted this video.

  • You on the DR show???? Cool

  • So much truth in what he's saying. All schools care about are test grades, because that's how they get larger budgets. With this method, EVERYONE will do well, and EVERYONE will succeed.

  • Do you mean 3/22/2011 in the description?

  • Very good upload, should be given much more attention, extremely important!

  • is that what I think it is.... no it can't be... wait it is..... hope?

  • i have my physics with calc tomorrow and your videos are helping me soooo much. i dont learn anything from my prof

  • I wouldn't have passed Precalculus without his videos

  • @kawsality sadly he didnt teach me english :P

  • GO SAL. taught me way more then my physics teacher

  • Sal taught me more mathematics then school.

  • @davencin10 then check for english too.. "than school" <-- correct term :P

  • @davencin10 but apparently not grammar

  • @davencin10

    Yep!

  • @davencin10 apparently didn't teach you grammar. "Sal taught me more mathematics thAn school."

  • @bomberfun1 only trolls like you would pick on small things like that on the internet.

  • @davencin10 lol, i guess he didn't teach you grammar....

  • @davencin10 Didn't teach you any English I guess haha just kidding around.

  • @davencin10 too bad he doesn't teach grammar...

  • @davencin10 That is the case with literally everyone who's ever watched his videos. And it's frigin awesome.

  • @davencin10 he should teach you English.

  • @davencin10 He'd better teach you some grammar then: it's more THAN school ;)

  • @davencin10

I would just like to apologize on the behalf of humanity for all the "it's THAN not THEN" comments, correct though they may be.

  • @Alignn Agreed :o)

  • @davencin10 "Than" school :o)

  • @tetranoob Didn't teach him English, just Math. :P

  • @davencin10 He should start teaching grammar. It's "than" not "then.

  • Sal is my hero
