  • Such a gem from Frau Hallstein. Did she ever sang anything that turned out not being sheer perfection? What a coloratura soprano, one of a kind, for sure.

  • The sound of this voice is SO full of air, which is quite bad... but I've to admit that in some other recordings her voice doesn't sound as "windy" as here.

I think that this aria is not well suited for her, she struggles with this kind of aggressive coloratura, and she ends up giving us very few of the emotions and meanings that this music should give. The Konigin der Nacht cant't be only "the right notes and a clear, lovely voice".

  • Großartig, aber bei Erika Köth rinnt es mir auch heute immer noch kalt über den Rücken..

  • Where's the acting ?

  • Wow! I've got to find that album.

  • I must admit, that she's even more precise than Popp. But I prefer more dramatic renditions - I like Deutekom's authoritativeness and Moser's evil darkness.

  • she has an amazing, clear, strong voice. but she sing this song to sweet and soft.

diana damrau sings this the best. she sounds harsh, angry and evil.

nevertheless, ingeborg hallstein is an exeptional singer!!!

  • Ich freue mich sehr über dieses wunderschöne Video. Lieben herzlichen Dank

Ingeborg Hallstein ist nicht zu überbieten

  • Wow; howevershe doesn't sound as though she is expressing vengance!

  • I have always found it very very funny, that way of thinking: love has to be sweet, revenge has to be hysterical, and so on...

Isn't it possible to admit that every one can feel almost the same things, but expresses them in his own way. May God bless Mrs Moser, a great Queen indeed, but may He also allow other singers to have their own place. I sincerely regret this uniform way of thinking, and, perhaps worst!, this uniform way of FEELING...

  • I join to them who miss the furious vengefulness. But it is not any diminution of her wonderful voice and performance. Simply her personality is more tender. She is rather a Lakme than a Queen of the Night. IMO

Csatlakozom azokhoz, akik hiányolják a tébolyult bosszúvágyat. De ezzel nem kívánom kisebbíteni a művésznő csodálatos hangját és előadását. Egyszerűen lágyabb az egyénisége. Inkább Lakmé, mint az Éj királynője. Számomra.

  • One presumes LohengrinT knows the context of this aria?

  • Did not know this singer. Have to say, exeptionaly beautiful voice. But somehowe I miss the vengeance. But then again, it´s really beautiful and also a warm clear sound.

  • You should go and see the excerpts of her Turco in Italia here on Youtube. Absolutely fantastic!!!!

  • it still makes me wonder how this woman sang this aria that it is so difficult no one else has sung in the last 70 years :)))

  • I think many people have sung this aria...

  • ofc they have ;)

  • ah, I caught that =] Do you really think she is supreme in this aria? No offense to the great coloratura, but her voice does not represent fury! A coloratura like Moser or Damrau suit this aria much better than Hallstein.

  • -Damrau's coloratura level is very low ;)

-I dont know whose is the "fury non-sense" but it is one of the stupidest "de factos" of Opera. Mozart is highly humorous here not at all furious. Mozart knew very well how to be furious vocally, this is a tonality and pitch game from a musical point of view and a highly humorous game from a dramatic/theatrical point of view. I usually lmao when I read opera fans wanting this aria to be furious

This aria needs perfect intonation and coloratura precision

  • @LohengrinT How in the world is this a comic aria?

  • @LohengrinT Diana's coloratura technique comes from the german school, arguably the best singing school for high sopranos, in fact, the same one that brought us Frau Hallstein. Most of her high acclaimed roles are coloratura roles. She excelled at QoTN, Constanze, Marie, Europa, Countess Adèle and basicly every other coloratura role she sang so far. Regarding the fury, well, bother to read the lyrics of Der Hölle Rache, or listen to Callas masterclass and you'll understand why she's furious. ;)

  • as I also lmao when I read Opera singers (like Sills) saying this aria is the most difficult ever written (that is why I have posted the same comment you firstly replied to, in all the different 30+ versions of this aria in Youtube :))

  • First of all thanks to Popoli for this beautiful recording ! And then to everybody who knows better than the others, everybody has got a different taste, so respect the others' like the others respect yours ! I accept the different opinions without blaming or insulting anybody, there is no need to do it !

Btw, my favourite "Der Hölle Rache" is from Cristina Deutekom !!

    Best wishes to everybody !!

  • So many insults. Not even in a original way. And you speak about my taste? Go with your toys somewhere else

  • Ah, I was waiting for this long time. Its great, but it does not fit. While it`s perfect for Damrau, Moser it is a role that does not suit to an angelic light lyric coloratura soprano, what Hallstein is for me. Callas is never convincing, when she is out of dramatic fach, Hallstein like Pons just opposit. Good girls aint bad.

Dear Popoli, will You please upload her Popoli di Tessaglia, must be on the same LP, since Lohengrins account was shut some stuff is missing now.

  • I have to disagree, this is the probably the best Der holle I have heard besides Lucia Popp's. The Clarity and tonal Accuracy of her singing here are Phenomenal. I had chills all over just because of the Clarity of her tones... this is the definition of Soprano Coloratura

And I definitely disagree on Damrau and not only in her Queen. Her coloratura technique is good but not of the highest level

  • Is that all there is? This interpretation brings nothing new and interesting, plus her high notes sound squeaky. Her "mothers oath" is quite pitiful in fact.

  • you are a Damrau fanatic? Uber lol man you are about 100 years from understanding what a Coloratura Soprano is... Damrau is not even a coloratura soprano She is a soprano leggero and without! a good coloratura technique

  • I did not mention Damrau. You perfectly ignored what I have just said and focused on the imaginary part. But I don't mind, please share the world with your obsessions, nobody cares.

  • the main video of Damrau in your page mentioned her plus showed your horrible taste.

I wont respond to stupidities about Hallstein.

Stop responding your stupidities to people who write negative comments about that ridicule Damrau you wont succeed anything ;)

  • @LohengrinT Aparently you don't know what are neither a Coloratura or a Leggero Soprano. So I'll make it simple for you. ;)

Soprano Leggero is a largely-used Italian expression to describe the gap in the german fach between the "Lyrischer Koloratursopran" and the "Charaktersopran", it's a Soprano with light voice, pure timbre, extremely fast voice, enourmous ability with the most pyrotechnic and florid coloraturas passages, - Continues -

with a small and weak bottom register(usually down to a low A) and a gorgeous top register, but it generally peaks at High E(E6), or High F(in rare cases). The german fach was updated and included a "new" voice type, called "Koloratursoubrette" wich is equivalent to the Soprano Leggero. Examples of Soprano Leggero includes: Kathleen Battle, Erna Berger, Rita Streich, Anneliese Rothenberger, Reri Grist.

  • @pedrofribeiro

Coloratura Soprano, there are several minor categories inside the general coloratura classification, but let's go. Described in the german fach as "Lyrischer Koloratursopran", is a soprano with a light lyric voice, with great upper extension, brilliant high notes, rich and colorful ornamentation, and that should be able to perform florid and fast acrobatics above high C with great ease and no effort. - Continues -

  • @pedrofribeiro

Posesses a great range, usually down to a Low A or G and up to a High G, should be able to sing forte in the higher register, and has a high spinning vibrato. As examples of the "general" coloratura soprano, we can list: Lucia Popp, Luciana Serra, Beverly Sills, Ruth Ann Swenson and Diana Damrau.

Well, that's it, if you need any more clarifications, just say it. ;)
