Most of the enlisteds are wearing the blue "Ike" jackets that the Air Force had briefly. I've been in the alert area at K. I. Sawyer AFB in 1981. They had a great chow hall for the officers.

@skipdafer What happened? Communists infiltrated and hijacked the schools and Universities, the media, and most importantly, the Democratic Party. Ever since then they've been tearing us down, bit by bit, using the time-tested method of divide and conquor. The job is pretty much finished now. Just a while ago some nimrod on another thread claimed the US govt had killed more people in the last 100 years than the rest of the world combined. Stupidity like that will bring us WW3 for sure.

this is why i love the internet so history like this is shared i am a cold war buff and love the airborne alert and operation chrome dome ops and the way the air force were ready to go toe to toe with the "russkies" and do combat with nuclear weapons amazing history thanks for posting and sharing this.

i like the white paint job and the sac logo and ribbon on the old buff

@Eirik36 Yeah, the old livery was interesting. Our Gs and Hs had tri-color camo on top, white underneath. Underneath the paint, you could clearly see the wrinkled fuselage skin around the wings caused by wing flex. If the aircraft had full wing tanks,the outrigger wheels would be touching the ground while taxiing. Otherwise, they would be a foot or two off the ground. In flight, the wingtips would be above the fuselage. These old birds still pack a whallop 60 years after the prototype flew.
