It's not an easy task, however one undertakes it. Some are better at certain types of work, and this Sheik is brilliant. I love seeing him. Had the opportunity to listen to him once at an ISNA convention in Ohio. Would like to go to another soon Insha'Allah...

Many scholars today memorize the hadith word for word and then sing the praises of the prophet.You'll see them having great debates in forums and infront of large crowds. You'll never see them feeding the poor. Helping people get out of poverty.

the prophet said "The best of alms is that, which the right hand gives and the left hand knows not of." (Bukhari).

The scholars are very aware of this hadith. When you give charity you should not make it a public spectacle, as hypocrisy and false piety can sow itself in the heart. People start corrupting their intentions to please god, with that of showing off their piety, like the jews did.

@articocean giving alms is something that one should do privately, I agree. But you see, the prophet of Islam went out of his way to reach out to the poor and the destitute. He helped relieve them of hunger and the other ills of poverty. I am sure that many muslim scholars are well aware of this, yet this is one example that they fail to follow....I wonder why.

did you not hear his comments at part 3 and 4? He started off by saying the hadith of the prophet, that it is good to go to help initiatives even if they are carried out by kufr.

Then he had several digs at blair, blair got the message.

1. he highlighted the fact that the vacines and nets were about profit

2. He highlighted the death of nimrod by a mosquito, that tyrants will die.

3. he highlighted the karma principle etc

he was talking indirectly to blair, as well as everyone else there.

Agreed, from his opening statement he was quite clearly having digs at Blair and his regime and I think Blair knows it. It's like watching chinese water torture, the comments seem harmless but they're having an effect on the recipient. Watch again and notice the steady discomfort of Blair rise every time Hamza Yusuf speaks.

someone once remarked about another muslim being fake to the prophet. The prophet replied that Allah had commanded him to judge people outwardly and not to judge someones heart, as that is purely Allah's domain. No man knows what is in another man's heart, nor does he know what is in his own heart. Only Allah knows. The lesson the prophet was teaching, was that you have to take a muslims faith on face value.
