i think youre exactly right, and the concept is surrender, which is very hard to do. when done, it opens one's closed mind to a new perspective. its kind of like wakin up...
Why is the whole world not listening to this band. One of the best I can think of in quite some time. The world needs more outstanding music like this!
@missbossy1111 where did they come from ? I know there from England, but how come i never heard of them before ? Will gonna hear alot of them now, yahhhhh,, love them
I don't think they are lightbulbs. I believe they are Wizzzers, a kind of gyroscopic top made by Mattel in the 70's. I think the top metaphor adds even more to the message, with the idea of spinning but not really going anywhere.
It's just amazing!! The animation seems simple, but in fact it isn't. The one —or ones— who made this really have a nice creative sense for giving such a profound significance for what the song says. I think it's sort of a critic to the mechanical way of living in modern societies, which will not change if we don't start to analyze it and make changes in ourselves. Cheers to the creators of this excellent video, and of course to One Eskimo for the nice song.
this video is AMAZING and i can't say enough about it! when i first watched it i was half paying attention, but towards the end i almost dropped to the floor when i realized what it was depicting in such a smart way! one of the best, most clever videos i have seen in a very long time. kudos to "creative artists" that exist. they are as hard to find!
All the battles (givin' up) I want to win (givin' up) Nothing matters (givin' up) But giving in (givin' up) So hard to do, so hard to do (it's hard) So hard to do (givin' up) Oo oo oohoo (is hard to do) Oo oo oohoo, oo oo oohoo oo (x4) All the battles (givin' up) I want to win (givin' up) Nothing matters (givin' up) But giving in (givin' up) So hard to do, so hard to do (it's hard to do) So hard to do (givin' up) Oo oo oohoo (it's hard to do)
I've woken up to the radio And I've hardly had any sleep And the song that plays will stay with me all day And I hate it Over and over again Another one of those crazy days And the same old, same old May be hard to change But I'm ready All the battles (givin' up) I want to win (givin' up) Nothing matters (givin' up) But giving in (givin' up) So hard to do, so hard to do (it's hard) So hard to do (givin' up) Oo oo oohoo (is hard to do)
I think Donny Hathaway could appreciate this if he were still alive.
When some others use his songs, they usually destroy his genius. This is a good interpretation though. But, Donny's version will always be the best ever!
i was instantly hooked when i heard them play this live... my favorite song from their album, but i'm kinda pissed that the album recording is so watered down compared to this
Beyond amazing. Its that cycle people get into when they really dont see the point in living but cant commit suicide because they are being held back by loved ones etc. but its like torture because thats all they can think about. And the whole seeing the windmill shows that even though the windmill electricity is a sign of hope for a brighter future, and its what temporarily puts the person back into being hypnotized like everyone else, but then it eventually fades off because itll never last
@pepperplanet Its the first half of what MagicDerry stated so eloquently and the second half is this: The 'message' of the song refers to the day when you 'wake up' and realize that you're not where you belong or doing what you were meant to do with your life and the ensuing pursuit of your authenticity. Following your authentic path.
@pepperplanet And sometimes on that journey in your life you may get sidetracked or may at times get 'lulled back to sleep' like our hero light bulb, but you NEVER stop trying.
@Grrrrrrize - this is ASHxMCDxISxMINE on ASH MCD'S laptop! xD - ze name of the other act were "will and the people". he swore innapropriately...silt tawunt. :)
Wow...what a brilliantly interpretive video. Anyone have ideas on what the video's about? I have ideas but I'm curious what other people think it's about...i think it's an interpretation of the mundaneness and mechanical nature of modern life, shown through it's depiction of people as light bulbs, the mechanism of the passing time, and all the light bulbs being duped into circular meaninglessness. Some try to escape, as the protagonist in this video, but, as we see, it is often all for naught.
@MagicDerry mass production, consumer culture, lots of repetition, industrialized world...over seems like a depressing look on life. Trapped in a endless circle of repetition.
@MagicDerry I think it means 'giving up' the fight. Meeting someone half way. Sacrificing ego for peace! It's 'hard to do' but we all need to do it! Realize we are all one and that being right isn't accomplishing anything! Do you want to be right or do you want peace? It's hard to do but I AM trying!
@specialeeffexx i like the eyedea of one group of people working together in order to accomplish something. Most people have fallen victim of hating others for no reason.WE ARE HUMANS.Not Whites, Blacks, Asians or Hispanics.
@MagicDerry I think it also depicts the fact that no matter what anyone does over the course of their lives on earth will ever actually have any impact on the universe whatsoever (I.e. when you look at the bigger, bigger, bigger scale of things what's the point of doing anything at all, and even so we continue aimlessly doing our daily routines)
@MagicDerry What I believe is that the light bulb has stood out as an individual for so long that he or she feels lonely. The loneliness seeps in as the light bulb "gives up" to society (depicted by the windmill) and begins to fit in. Later, he or she falls into the humdrum life of being someone he or she is not and begins to fight against the conformity (illustrated by drowning in the water) but fails and loses his or her individuality and perspective upon life.
@MagicDerry ... Hey - I totally agree and see the same basic interprtation of this brilliant video- so simple yet deep in meaning.... i love it love it and the band of course too! To the band - "youre great artists...cant wait for more!"
@MagicDerry I think the world has worked itself into such a pattern that u could be right in the sense that yes the same thig happens every day casing us to be helplessly pushed into that pattern putting all of us into a rut consisting of depression and hopelessness not me though its just song interpretation you can tell i'm a nerd
@MagicDerry The video seems to be about the state of the people in the world. See the little bulbs a people. they are all lost in confusion and Hypnotized. At the end he starts to get confused himself like the world. To add insult to injury he gets a computer Chip of confusion put into his mind. I guess then he dies and then sees the world as it is the big gear that turns the world. The abstract art tres to cover whats happening but not completely.

I got that, too. I saw a lot of reciprocating themes. almost a story of the phoenix, but more pessimistic like a buddhist reincarnation thang...
I love how the "TV brainwashed" lightbulbs in a trance aren't as aware as our hero lightbulb.
but the hero lightbulb got tranced by the windmill, too... perhaps a feeling the artist had about the renewables bubble?
The turnstyle on the building where he's trying to "get out" but ends up right where he started- inside... brilliant
