  • Kova!!

  • This is the second time I've listened to a WD tune on youtube tonight. Both times when I read the comments, it appears there is some folks slamming LZ. That's OK because those cats have laughed all the way to the bank for years now. Also remember, LZ haters, many would have forgotten about much of the great blues if bands like the Stones, Led Zepplin, Cream and many more had not kept the blues flame going. Hendrix did much of the blues also and no one is knocking him.

  • Just listen to the music and appreciate it for what it is

  • Led Zeppelin was well known for the musical taste of its musicians, and they made tribute to many Blues songs and artists.

There's no need to make any point about who or what was better... because Led Zeppelin would not exist if wasn't for the blues and the very first Rock musicians. And they were the first to admit that.

And they made a real wonderful job using the influences they had...

  • @saulo2112 very well put, too many haters here on youtube who just want to put zeppelin down for paying homage to the great bluesmen of the south, they opened the door and influenced everyone from zeppelin to clapton, the stones and thousands in between, there would be no rock n roll without them, too many dwell on the negative instead of just digging the music!!!

  • @saulo2112 Agreed, Zepellin was heavily influenced by the great black artists, as was Cream, the Stones, the Animals, the Yardbirds, and the list goes on!!!!

  • superclassico

  • stop all the fuse on who sung the song better, different titles, and so on. black american music especially the blues influence the whole world and as americans we should all be proud of that

  • Zeppelin paid oni millon dollars four you plagio.. 2 u 3 songs in the album led zeppelin one in 1969

  • Damn, this was the man!

  • @romienomie yeah, that's right, Zeppelin tried to play the blues..TRIED..but obviously they did not succeed..or wait..they did..if it were'nt for Zeppelin versions of Dazed and How many more times ( years ) and You Shook Me / when the levee breaks...these songs would have never been brought to light...Zepp turned them into classics....NOW THAT'S ARTISTRY but they did come up with some decent stuff on their own...Rock and Roll, Kashmir, Stairway, The Ocean, Misty Mountain Hop.....Heartbreaker...!

  • this song is original by willie or zeppelin?

  • @almoso94 willie

  • @almoso94

    Muddy Waters

  • @almoso94 Zeppelin copied almost all of 'their' songs from the old blues greats. They just arranged them to their sound. They lost several lawsuits over the years for copying the blues greats. Love their sound, but they're rip off artists.

  • @biffula almost all? You realize that blues was not all their music right? They have more than just two albums? Have you ever even heard the song Achilles Last Stand? Its no secret that Zep ripped off Dixon and Muddy Waters but to say all their songs? Just a massive generalization.

  • @GranDrJ not all their songs, just the good ones :)

  • @biffula what about blues artists ripping off each other ?

  • @almoso94 Are you serious? Jesus, Willie must have been like 50 when Zeppelin ripped him off. Get a clue, man. American blues came first, then the Brits who tried to perform just like them.

  • @almoso94 by Willie ma la versione Zep è inarrivabile!

  • You know you move me, Willie Dixon.

  • The best part of this video is the apparent Burzum reference in the poster's nickname.

  • My first thought was "No way, even AC/DC covered him?"

  • @MackJCM Yeah the songs just have same title though

  • @MackJCM Ac/Dc covered the version by Zeppelin

  • @Chaz6993X they're are two different songs with similar titles

  • "Beautifulllllll"

  • and I know this is off topic but what happened to Howlin' Wolf doing Killing Floor??? That live version is MURDER!

  • led zeppelin was completely inspired by blues artists like these and would be nowhere without them, and im a huge zeppelin fan no doubt, but i admit plant ripped off them a lot, but page jones and bonham always were pretty original

  • @TasOMW Page always original? I may grant that for jones and bonham but Page started plagiarizing even when he was still on the Yardbirds with Dazed and Confused. And there were many others, too, but I won't care to mention them all, just this one: "Taurus" by Spirit. (Spirit opened many of their concerts on a tour).

  • Brits made no secret of their blues fetish. Page/Plant et al in interviews then seemed to worship US blues artists & gave huge credit in terms of influence. I came to know of blues from this and liner note credits. Borrowing styles, riffs and catch phrases made interesting music, promoted blues and opened a whole new audience. But get record co lawyers involved and artists get hosed. Chess hosed Dixon himself on a Zep settlement. That's just how it was then. Maybe still is.

  • ohh yeah!

  • Ignorance Is Bliss..

All of these tunes were very popular in their day. In their original form.

  • stop making a big deal out of it led zepplin make this guys song famous and because of that he had food on his table. i write music my self and i wouldnt mind it if zepp steals it and makes a super all time history hit and pays me one million. what else can u ask for?

  • @alekssr7 because u are nothing...u wouldnt mind.

  • @anktankt and like ur alot right...blues people say this all the time, is not about the money is about the music. zepplin just performed it so what? i like blues my self but zepplin just made it a timeless piece. i like willie but come on must of the people have heard hes work through zepp

  • @alekssr7 - I started with classic rock...led zepp is still the best band for me. And yes i agree that led zepp version made this song popular. But this does not mean that you can steal somebody's IP and give you a million when you already have a 50 mil in the bank.

For mortals like you and me, yes a million wont do us no harm. But then again..if you wrote this great peice of music...would you like if someone stole it and not give due credit until you sue them???

  • @anktankt but he does have the credit as the composer of the song, so he has the credit, his music is well known all over the world for eternity and got the money. i play guitar and make cover songs with my name on it but everyone knows who plays it, it doesnt mean im stealing it that means im trying to get the music across. and i hope those bands dont come and sue me for playing their music

  • i gots the blues baby

  • there's an old saying my Gt Gr-dad used to quote

    There's those that know,

    Those that don't know,

and those that don't know they don't know

  • Led Zeppelin's first album was like a simmering pot of old blues classics with their own flavour added on top. It was giving their audience a little taste of what Led Zep was, and what they were going to be.

  • @10kokesly Yes it was...but they did it sooo well, no one cared nor questioned, Zep is still Zep... they did it best!!!!

  • @10kokesly Yes it was...but they did it sooo well, no one cared nor questioned, Zep is still Zep... they did it best!!!! Copying and/or re-doing a song is the highest form of flattery...And let's face it Zeppelin shook us all....night long...no matter what song!!!

  • Good artist borrow. Great artist steal. Hence Led Zeppelin.

  • @igotmud32 if you're not cheatin, you're not tryin

  • but im not fighting who wrote whos songs all am saying is willie dixon did not write ALL led zepplin songs like someone commented, i mean did he wrote black dog? dazed and confused? rock and roll? friends? leaving you baby? did he wrote all those songs? i bealive not and other thing. im a blues fan as well but i dont get offended because led zepplin sang this guys songs, he should be proud that the greatest band of all time sang hes song. LZ made this guys songs famous and heard.

  • @alekssr7 You got that right!!! Zep is the best!

  • alekssr7 do a search for "spirit - taurus" it sounds like spirit wrote the main guitar line on that one... (stairway to heaven) but in all seriousness can't we all just get along.. no need for name calling.. you enjoy both artists.. great... let it be...

  • One of the best for me. That's all that matters, how it affects us personally.

You like it or you don't. I love it. Really.

  • @tuckintucker1 Couldn't have said it better!!!! Zep Rocks...end of story!!!! Rock On!!

  • WILLIE DIXON MASTER OF BLUES !!!!

  • If you don't like this you have no appreciation for where American music came from.

  • And what about stopping insulting each other and take advantage of this song ? Nowadays when opinions don't go in the same way it always lead to a struggle, it's hard.

  • dude i like this guy but there is no way that WD wrote all led zepplin songs fucking retard (STAIRWAYS TO HEAVEN)...besides led zepplin made this guys songs popular i dont know why are u bitching that they stole it from him. they properly gave credit to WD. if he had no problem with it neither should you bitch.

  • @alekssr7 He sued Zeppelin and won a $1 million suit for Whole Lotta Love. You can see that fact mentioned in the film, "Cadillac Records", the story of Chess records.

  • @alekssr7 Willie Dixon successfully sued Zeppelin for $1 million for Whole Lotta Love. This fact is mentioned in the film Cadillac Records, which is based on the story of Chess Records at the end credits.

  • @eddhouck

  • I've been a big blues fan all my life, but just so everyones clear, most of the blues classics by the 'origional' artists are remakes themselves. Most of the true origional artists died before making it big. So artists like Willie Dixon and Muddy Waters went on to publisize these great pieces. Even Leadbelly (my personal fav) had been known to borrow songs.

  • Hey, when will people realise that when people say Zep 'stole' a song, they did so in the legal sense, not the musical sense. Musically they were amazing.

  • take one ounce of willie dixon, than add five gallons of water, shake well and then you get led zeppelin. simple. in the same way you take few drops of blues, add lots of water and you have rock and roll. amen.

  • @slavstube didnt make any sense, sorry ;((((((((

  • you know, i dont see anyone fuckin complaining about bob dylan covering songs... why the fuck should led zeppelin be any different? just because you make a better version doesnt make it stealing

  • @notchjohnson1 "Better version"??? Well my friend the "better" part will have to be left up to the beholder. I see it like Brutus felt about Rome and Caesar. Yes I do love Caesar dearly, but I love Rome more! LZ is my Caesar but the Blues is my Rome....

  • @mta415 thanks for the history lesson bruh

  • In the know! Thank God we gave the Brits something to play...LOL!

  • @thorivaldic

haha nice one, you made me laugh! :D

  • For once and for all, Led Zep "stole" these songs. I remember when Led Zep released their first lp and on and on. I'm just glad that the truth - however painful it may be - is finally out. And yes, I prefere the LZ versions like most of the wrtiers on this blog. But, don't be like what Jack Nicholson said in "A Few Good Men". You've got to deal with it.

  • @afamreport bands cover songs all the time

  • Zeppelin took a lot from this song, but honestly, I think they made it better. But about copying, Blues is all about passing on to each other songs, techniques, lyrics, etc. Why do you think the same 12 bar blues is so commonly used? I'm sure there was one guy long ago that came up with that progression. Blues musicians use each other's ideas, and keep them alive. Led Zeppelin proves that. His music is living on through them, and Dixon surely didn't credit the author of that blues progression..

  • WD wrote a lot of great songs and was a helluva upright player to boot. Memphis Slim & Howlin' Wolf brought WD's songs alive! Heck, Wolf brought a lot of songs alive, check out his version of Elmore James "Dust my broom"! off the charts man!!

  • Willie Dixon.

The original, and still the best. Wonderful, wonderful songwriter - and just take a listen to that bassline...

Hats off to the vocalist (pretty sure it's Howlin Wolf) for a great rendition.

    What a perfect collaboration.

  • Tasty..

  • AMEN!

  • My goodness, lots of hate here. I'll just quote Dizzy: "You can't steal a gift."

  • oh my god, Led Zeppelin copied this! i cant believe it!!! i thought their song was original!

  • Led Zeppelin was INSPIRED by these artists, so they made sort of covers. Ohh, it's true that maybe they didn't give credit to Willie Dixon, but they are humans, and we make mistakes.

  • @francisjavi07 Generally the misconception of the society, in not searching for the real author of the song (Willie Dixon), is a bad thing to do; but, please don't continue quibbling if they did or did not plagiarize, the important thing is for you to know about the inspiration that Led Zeppelin had, and if you take a look at our history, all artists plagiarize, and all artist get inspired.

  • unfortunately, kids don't have a clue about W.D. led zep thought they could start some great shit being so "cool and original" , but years and years later, they got fucked when you could click and see who they ripped off...fuck zep, cause they thought they could get away with it...cunts.. ted...

  • @jodonte1

    so true...

  • nothin like the real thing.....

  • The real question is, who inspired Willie and who did he learn from? Imagine the blues that never got recorded...

  • @ANDREWWHODGE good question dude but WD did actually write the song (as well as numerous others) and that was largely unknown for years. I myself didn't find out until the 70's.

  • yea thats what i meant

  • Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but that royalty check makes it that much sweeter!

  • long live blues music....

  • we allways gonna have the blues. dont you worry if you aint got em they gonna fine you fo shure!

  • blues.. AT ITS BEST..my god.

  • wow

  • The basic, the beautiful...the inspirational. Willie Dixon...

I like all versions of this song...but his one is purity, no hype... just gorgeous.

  • Enjoy Willie and forget the rest lol !!!

  • If it wasn't for Led Zep, Clapton, Beck ect. generations of kids wouldn't ever heard of Wille Dixon, Muddy etc. So let's give some credit where credits due !

  • Lets put this in persepective- if it wasn't for willie dixon, muddy waters, john lee, etc.. we probably wouldn't have Led Zep, Clapton, etc..

  • Agree with you totally there would be no Led Zep etc. without these 'Bluesmen', but with out the young 'Brits', their music would of been lost, so the credit isn't for the music but for keeping it alive by re-introducing it to new generations.

  • Yep, can't argue with that - and they were hugely important in reviving and relighting careers for John Lee Hooker, B.B., et al.. -but also remember the R&R connection with the Blues, even Elvis - Little Richard, Fats Domino - and how about Tommy Tucker and Sam Cooke - all with strong Blues connections prior to the emergence of the British Blues Boom. The Blues is shot through many forms of western popular music - from country to jazz.

  • yea but the young brits gave credit where is was due

  • @geeyouknit345 no they didnt, eric clapton was the only one of them who gave credit to the original blues artists in royalties. everyone else had the shit sued out of them for not doing it.

  • @rondoliomercutio stones did and animals did

  • @rondoliomercutio

The Doors gave credit to Dixon for "Back Door Man"

  • that's putting the cart in front of the horse! You are aware that Led Zep I, ALL of the songs were W.D. songs right?!? No offense but you are giving more creedence to the cart instead of the horse. And generations of kids still dont know who W.D. is because the users of his songs gave no credit until he and chess records sued L.Z. as well as others for royalties. Folks in the know, know, those that don't, dont...

  • yep, and from what i read in Willie's bio, he's been the first black artist to sue a white band for rights, and won.

  • Learn, learn, learn (John Lenin)

  • no they werent. dazed and confused was a yardbirds song that jimmy wrote.

  • @Jimihendrix6699 No, thats fucking wrong. Dazed and Confused is a Jake Holmes´s song you bastard

  • @fersuels89 ok geeze, chill out, simple mistake. no reason to go attacking me over it...

  • @Jimihendrix6699 hahahaha sorry man, just joking about agresive people on youtube xD! Peace

  • @fersuels89 im emotionally scared from that...i dont know what to say

  • @mta415 "You Shook Me" and "I Can't Quit You Babe" were the only songs on the album that were Dixon's.

  • @2doorcoupe whole lotta love is WD's you need love, the lemon song is WD's killing floor (performed by Howlin Wolf but wrote by WD), you shook me and bring it on home are also WD songs but the latter is usually played by the Wolf & sonny boy also. How many more times is a WD song perfomed by the wolf too. Listen to each and read the lyrics and mind you WD wrote these songs in the late 50's to early 60's. and for craps and grins Babe I'm gonna leave you & dazed & confused were by Jake Holmes.

  • @mta415 I know but you said Led Zep 1. As in the first album. I wasn't including the second album.

  • @2doorcoupe that being said I'm also a huge LZ fan...

  • @mta415 forgot to add that afaik Your Time Is Gonna Come, Black Mountain Side, and Communication Breakdown belongs to the Zep (I think).

  • @mta415 Only 2 songs on Led Zep 1 were Willie Dixon covers .

  • @mta415 Black Mountainside wasn't a WD song.

  • OMG what an idiotic statement ALL Led Zeppelin songs were Willy Dixon??? ALL??

Prove to me that Willy Dixon wrote "Over the hills and far away" or " Stairway" come on retard link me a recording of Willy dixon plaing "Stairway to Heaven" "Bonzo's Montreux" was written John Bonham I absolutely could not allow some sub-moron to smear the Great Bonzo. A few songs were written by other artist including WD but not anywhere close to ALL! LZ creative works are EPIC even the cover work.

  • @Darkstarkadder1 I stand corrected, I meant "a lot". Calling people out of their name is no way to carry on a conversation. I made the mistake all by my lonesome saying All instead of Many and I have since corrected myself but you seem to just want to concentrate on my original post, which is fine too. But whether you like it or not WD wrote a lot of songs that were used by other folks including the one for this vid that we are talking about now.

  • @mta415 Don't be ridiculous. On the original release of Led Zep 1, Dixon was clearly credited for 'You Shook Me' and 'I Can't Quit You Baby' and only his name was there. The other Dixon song I recall that had some similarity is 'Whole Lotta Love' which of course came from Dixon's 'You Need Love' and he sued only for this. But honestly, can you really call them the same song? A large part of WLL was that 'vocal moaning' part.

  • In fact, I am watching this video because I saw Dixon's name on the album. And I like both versions of this song. So I don't understand why others here might be angry that people only acknowledged Led Zep for this song. Any listener of the band would know that the band had its roots in the blues, and that this song and 'I Can't Quit You Baby' were written by Dixon.

  • @JohnsonD4vid - Well done you hit the nail on the head. Willie was credited with both songs on the first Zep LP. Ergo Willie would get the ryalties due him, that's what ASCAP and BMI are for.

  • @JohnsonD4vid ridiculous? I think not. If he was clearly credited then why did Chess records bring suit? Bring it on home, Killing floor (Lemon Song) are also Willies songs. LZ settled out of court over these two songs, look it up. Lets not get carried away as I like LZ and WD but whether you like it or not WD has his place in history. Type in "Killing Floor" in the video search box above and stand back and watch the show my friend :-)

  • @mta415 no. i love willie dixon. hes awesome. im a kid/teenager.

  • @mta415 what the fuck are you talking about? good times/bad times, baby im gonna leave you, dazed & confused, your time is gonna come, black mountain side, communication breakdown were not WD songs. there were only 2 WD covers on LZ1; you shook me & i cant quit you baby.

  • @TheLagunaSunrise #1 don't swear at people you don't know unless you are standing in their face. #2 apparently you missed an entire branch of the conversation where I stated the same thing that you are swearing to me about. #3, this "tennis match" is 3 months old, let it go...

  • @mta415 - i don't go looking through all the comments to see if someone has made the point i did, or if you've realised your mistake.

i'll swear at who i like & i don't care how old it is.

  • @TheLagunaSunrise well alrighty then, I'll consider this case closed.

  • @TheLagunaSunrise That's a good point. I find it musing to see people are now debating about which particular artists were ripped off by LZ (since it's basically fact.). Still, good of them to credit Willie on their first album.

  • @mta415 no, not nearly all of them were. Good Times Bad Times, Dazed and Confused, Your Time is Gonna Come, Black Mountain Side, and Communication Breakdown are all original songs. only You Shook Me and and I Can't Quit you Baby are Willie Dixon tunes I believe. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

Dont get me wrong however, I love the originals of all of those songs that Led Zeppelin didn't write.

  • @greensp4rk dude go back and read my post and you will see where I stated the same thing you just said plus some. Will this ever die?!?

  • @mta415 i believe your exact words were "You are aware that of Led Zep I, ALL of the songs were W.D. songs right?"

I'm just saying that ^this isnt true by a long shot.

  • @greensp4rk if you would have read further you would have read this "I stand corrected, I meant "a lot". I made the mistake all by my lonesome saying All instead of Many and I have since corrected myself but you seem to just want to concentrate on my original post, which is fine too. But whether you like it or not WD wrote a lot of songs that were used by other folks including the one for this vid that we are talking about now". There's a few more too, get the whole story first.

  • @mta415 ah well, i didnt see any post but your original post since it's in the highest rated area, i didnt actually scroll 8 months back to find the original place you posted it. sorry for the irritation

  • @greensp4rk its cool dude, no blood, no foul! ;-)

  • @greensp4rk dazed and confused was ripped off from jake holmes and black mountain side was a remake but dont remember who from

  • @mta415 correct myself, not ALL! an error on my part. You shook me and Babe I'm gonna leave you are W.D. songs from Zep1 and Whole lotta love, the Lemon Song, and Bring it on Home from Zep 2 (which is my personal fave).

  • @mta415 im pretty sure they got babe im gonna leave you from joan baez

  • @brennanloltehlol and I LOVE that song!!! one of the best on the album!

  • @mta415 they werent all

  • @ledwhofloyd101 read my posts further down the line....

  • @mta415 sorry about that

  • @ledwhofloyd101 its cool bro... like the name, Led Zep, the Who and P.F. cool...

  • led zeppelin may have copied some amazing blues songs but at the end of the day we cant deny they made them their own.

I love this version loads by the way, what a voice Dixon had.

  • @mothershipmdear totally agreed...

  • A great find...this is excellent!

    Thanks 4 this...

  • Screw Zeppelin and you who can't shut up about them. Here we have the real deal.

  • Zeppelin is the shit!

  • i agree

  • Zeppelin only credited artists who the record company determined they had no choice about crediting. Blowing of Dixon on their frist two albums was more the fault of the record company than the band. At that point in the band's history, they didn't have the kind of clout they would later, where they could tell the record company to get bent. Their first couple albums, Zep was just like every other rock band trying to make it - kissing the record company's ass to get their records made.

  • EXACTLY! thats what people dont understand

  • Real Blues!

  • Led Zep remade many of WD''s songs, w/o giving credit. Sad but true.

  • Zeppelin always put the name of author on their songs and always talk about their roots and basis that make them be who they are god´s of rock

  • you are a douche

  • so fucking true i like this one better

  • Glad I came across this, Never heard Willie sing it. Does anyone know if WD wrote this song?

  • With JB Lenoir according to WIKI -

  • of course he did.

  • give zeppelin a break though, plant was only like 19 or 20 yrs old when they recorded their first album. at least they knew what to copy!

  • he is such a great bluesman.. lots of musicians covered his songs.

  • if this don't send chill bumps down your arms then you ain't got no soul

  • velvet!

  • yeah that's blues. really blues. like it!!!

  • Damn good gut bucket o blues, play it man.Led zeps good but, this is BIG Wllie style

  • What a master song writer. It fun to imagine all the Brittish supergroups sitting around having their minds blown by Willie and Chess records crew.

  • that's what i wuz thinkin. these (black) blues and jazz guys were treated like shit in their own country. it took european kids to recognize their brilliance. i forget what english group it wuz, but they said the best american jazz and blues records could be found in france, and how highly sought after they were.

i wonder how much differently jimi hendrix's career would have gone had he not been convinced to go to london.

  • fuck man that is amazing.

im a huge huge huge zep fan and all, but this is the ultimate version of this.

  • It's good to see someone who appreciates the songwriters. I love Zeppelin, too, but without these old blues singers like Wille Dixon, there would be no Led Zeppelin!

  • this is the original- zep copied dixon on a lot of their songs- dixon sued zep for plagerizing his songs and won

  • Plant was inluenced form Steve Marriot from The Small Faces more than anyone else in vocals. He used to follow them about and ran a couple of erands or them. When Marriot heard Plant singing "Whole Lotta Love" He said "Go on my son". Or something along those lines. Plant vocals are near identical to Marriots. While The Small Faces did "You need loving". Zeppelin did "Whole lotta Love".

  • who plant is influenc ed by is irrelevent to my comment- i know zep is awesome- they are my fav band but they did get sued for plagerism and did lose the suite to willie dixon

  • I was just sayin' so the pople who didn't know could read that too. I suppose it oculd be relevant to say although The Small Faces did a cover of You need loving, They put there name for the credits they should've got sued too.

  • That`s the blues :)

  • oh man so good. blues at its very best. willie dixon is the man! the zeppelin and jeff beck versions are pretty cool, well actually they kick ass, but nothing touches the original.

  • sing those Blues son, thanks for posting
