Because 1) it's not a great song and 2) Charlie needed to choose a "safe" song to make it to the Finals. He has to convince, not the judges, but the audience at home. That usually means singing a song that people already know. This might be good for an audition, but not for the semifinal.

He really screwed up. Charlie didn't make it to the finals. Simon picked him, but Piers & Amanda went with Strike.

In Season 3, BGT published the semifinal votes for the finalists. In EVERY case, the judges "picked" the real second-place finisher. I strongly suspect that happened in Season 2, as well. Charlie blew it. WHY would he take such a chance? There are dozens of great songs he could have done--grab 'most anything done by Sinatra, Bublé--e.g., "Fly Me to the Moon."

Yeah but the song was dated, and not fit for his age and everything. It also is a song that you have to like, so this would make it difficult for the public to like him if they don't like this type of music. It's just that there is music that is hard to understand for large groups of people, like modern classical music.

I agree! The song is very nice. I hate the judges comments because they seem to be trying to box young Charlie into a certain genre. His tours around the world since leaving BGT shows his eclectic style is well recieved. Although his dad denies it (to be politically correct) I think the public voting had a lot to do with his race more than his talent.
