  • Wow, that is as rare as a ten cent note. Great stuff, and true Rock "n" Roll. They were always great to watch.

  • I'm a big Elvis fan...but, these guys are the greatest when it comes to rock-a-billy. Listen and watch close to this video...it's "live", and they knocked it outa' tha' ballpark !

  • Great!

  • Thanks!!!!! really really merci !!!

  • this is as rare as the hope diamond Phew i just cant believe its up here, how ever found this and loaded it up here,a big Thankyou daddy o !!!

  • Split screen! Cutting edge technology for 1957!

  • thank you for putting up such rare videos..... omg ...thank you..really..God Bless

  • god damn that is flawless.

  • ed sullivan show

  • super video really like Gene

  • The drummer (Dickie Harrell?) was the last of the original Blue Caps to leave Gene.

  • Check out the drummer during the instru break!

  • @Rotis59 He's wailin', flailin' and having a ball! That high-pitched scream came from him, too! That's rockin'!!!!

  • .GWincent Classic!

  • Based on the staging and arm that comes out as the curtain closes, this must be the Ed Sullivan Show 17th November 1957.

    Yes? No? Maybe?

  • Nice!

  • Dickie Harrell is still alive , too . When the surviving Blue Caps were still performing , not long ago , they got snubbed , or merely "Overlooked", by the major Rockabilly/R'n'R fests in the States. Great , great footage , but , I think Gene gave Tommy and Paul so much time in the spotlight , despite his legendary egotism (And , yes , he had something to be egotistical about.) , because he seemed self - conscious about his looks and his mobility. Maybe not.

  • @pfordsq Agreed. Love the way Dickie whales away at his drums during the solo!

The States seem to know nothing of their greatest music. I guess that's why Gene had to go to Europe in the early ' 60's the further his career. The "Clapper Boys" gave excellent back-up vocals.

The Blue Caps rule. End of story!

  • How did I miss this? Great history!

  • Extraordinaire !! wonderfull

  • This tv show was broadcast in the U.S.A.?

  • dem boys got dose legs going 2

  • More energetic than the studio version and with strangely mixed-up lyrics. Great!

  • Gene is absolutely my favorite Rocker of the 50s. And he had by far the best band; first with Cliff Gallup and then Johnny Meeks as shown here. What a great video !

Thank you for posting this. Cheers !

  • Never seen this REAL live with Gene and the Caps. Thanks. Super great! I wonder if the ultra rare color live footage with Gene/Caps from '57 (I think it's from) is still on youtube? I saved it when I found it....but I have so much saved....guess I have a look so it haven't been purged.
