I read a book about it a while ago, Morrow was considering leaving the film because Landis was being totally reckless about filming the stunts and seemed coked out half the time, he even talked to his lawyer about it, but tragically he decided against it because he thought leaving a film halfway through would hurt his career. Landis was and still is a total jackass, and struts around to this day lecturing people about guns as if he didn't already have 3 notches on his own belt.

I have that footage somewhere in my Vhs collection. The scene shows Vic picking up the kids out of a bamboo trunk in close up. Turning towards the camera yelling and 3 seconds later an explosion blowing up the hut.
