  • You probably have the only girlfriend in the world who ever gave a Super 8 camera to a guy. Congratulations on both the film and her!

  • Did you do any grading on this?

  • Very well done! the result with screen transfer is pretty good. Have you tried some other ways of transferring your S 8 footage?

  • Awesome camera, hot chick, and sick tunes. This video almost has it all. Andrew Bird is freakin' sick. I really liked his Soldier On EP.

  • GREAT ONE!! THANKs for sharing!!

By the way, how do u telecine with a HDV???

    CAN U teach me?????

    tahnks a lot!!!

  • thanks,

its just projected with a super 8 projector, onto a white screen, then just record the projection with a camera.

    thats it.

  • @gurnwilli How did you solve the strobe problem?

  • nice one. check my super 8 ALL THE COLOURS OF YOU super 8 film at my page. I used Kodachrome 40asa, now no more. I used low lights intentionally, but it turned out very underexposed. When I saw the quality I liked it, as it adds to the mystery of what is actually happening to the woman...

  • thanks for getting helping me get hooked on super 8mm and Andrew Bird. Waiting for my first test roll back - can't wait.

  • wow, glad to have an effect. hope the test comes back all well and good :-p ,

upload it and send me the link to have a gander.

  • If you have the footage professionally telecine'd with a best-light, they can usually bring out more exposure using the waveform. Worked for me, I had 16mm 64t grossly underexposed and when they did the transfer, it looks beautiful and milky.

Is that your girlfriend? Lucky guy. She's pretty AND buys you film toys?

  • do you live in england?

  • yes, london. whys that?

  • The style of houses reminded me of the old monty python sketches. just me stereotyping.

  • ha, thats funny. though now you've said it i can see what you mean, esp with the old style film.

  • yeah, that totally ads to the affect :P

  • What was the frame rate of that slow motion shot? It looked fantastic.

  • hi and thanks!

i believe it was 52fps. but i slowed it down in post by a bit too. about 30-40% it was quite a while ago, so i cant be specific. sorry.

  • Beautiful girl, beautiful video.

  • Dude - I love the tone and grain of 64T, but the film is always jittery! It sucks! I feel like I get ripped off every time. I really hope Kodak figures out the film thickness/cart problem. Nice film test. This film is great, but I won't buy more untill the film shows correctly through the projector. peace.

  • Really interesting to see. I've just bought a Nizo Super 8mm and got hold of some stock from the Widescreen Centre. It arrived quick but they never seem that great on the phone. I was planning on getting it developed and digitized there but might check out some other avenues. I usually shoot DVCPROHD for corporates so will be an interesting challenge. Good stuff gurnwilli!

  • She's got a nice rack!

  • nice blond girl ^^

  • i dig it. what country are you from? cause im looking for a new place to get my film telecine done. also whats the tune you used, very nice. should have a look at the film i made on a trip to japan! shot it on fuji valvia/ low grain.

  • thanks! its just a test :-p

im from england. its a song by andrew bird, though its hard to get hold of, as its on an ep. not an album. i went for noodles with him once after a show. which was a little weird.

  • I think it primarily it has to do with the transfer when your using a projector even with telecine your getting alot os"stuttering" best bet if you hav the cash get done professionaly...Mind you though theres alot of companies that do essentialy the same thing projectine image then recording it you want a direct trransfer!

  • whered you get the telecine done?

  • the widescreen centre near baker street. took AGES though, as i did it just after xmas, and they said that germany was closed.

hmm, strange. but was fairly cheep, should normally take 10 days or so.

they also didnt call me to tell me it was done, i called them and they said it had been there a couple of days.

so cheap, not great service. 16mm processing labs are much nicer.

  • There's a Pro 8mm in London, and they are basically the best for the telecine of super 8 films (they use a Rank). It can be a bit costly, though, but well worth it.

  • I only used them once but didn't have any problems. I'll agree they are not the most personable of folks.

  • ektachrome film is a bit thicker than other super 8 film stocks, so it runs a bit rough through the gate (hence the shaky image)

  • looks good..now write a script and do a silent film

  • well i have done a bunch of films on hdv/leses etc, and im about to shoot a 16mm short, with a bolex. :-)

  • Re felicito, muy buena comparación de exposiciones de peliculas super 8

  • Hi you definitely have a stability issue with your nizo, All super8's move a bit, but nizo's are one of the best, have a look at the pull down claw make sure its clean. Try vision 2 stock, it's thinner than reversal tends to work better, oh and some super 8 cameras dont read 64t well but who shoots on auto exposure anyway, so its not really a problem, cheers.

  • Love it -looks sooooo good!

  • Question....

What kind of camera do you have, and did you tamper with the film cartridge, or just stick it in and shoot? I ask because I have a Canon310XL and it cannot read 64t. Ive read that by covering up the notches, you can make the camera read it at 40t or 160t which are tow of the three ASA settings the camera reads. SO do you know what speed/ ASA your camera would have read this at?

  • well, as far as i knew (i would have said know, but now you mention this), all super 8 cameras could read 64t, as it was pretty much the main stock people used. (its reversal film so you can project it without having to invert the colour)

    if all that makes sense.

short answer: i just put it in and shot it. its dark because its reversal, which loses a couple of stops of light.

the camera is the Nizo 801, i thought i put that up. :-/

  • but as far as i know, you can change the way a super 8 camera reads the ASA, but only by opening it up and making a little knob you can turn from the outside. as when you slide the cartridge in, the inners of the camera read the asa. (which is determined by whatever stock you push in)

  • Haha, my camera is old, and they did not have the 64t when it was made. All they had was 40, 160, and 250. My camera doesn't have a knob i can turn on the outside of it. I bought it without really looking into it b/c I got it for a good price off of Ebay, but now I am kind of regretting my decision. My dumb-ass film professor didn't alert me to some of these pitfalls before hand, so I didn't know to look out for certain things. But thanks man! Now I have a better idea of how it will look!

  • oh i didnt mean that super 8 cameras have this knob you can turn, you have to MAKE it. its something internal to the camera. its a homebrew thing you have to do.

  • Congratulations, you have a pretty kickass girlfriend!

  • Ha! I know.
