  • Bro u gotta learn to wait till the lights on the dash turn off. Just don't plug and start the engine. There is a reason for that. AND I AM NOT SAYING THAT IS THE CAUSE FOR UR DEAD ENGINE. just givin friendly advice. i myself own an RX8.

  • damn! So , due to this guy's story , if you buy an rx-8, you have to buy 3-4 pieces spare engines , just in case... you know ,

  • Glad you got it fixed! I like the idea of the rotary but sure wish the engine was more easily rebuildable than it is.

  • The only time my Rx8 does such bullshit is when i don't rev my engine up to 3500 rpm for 15 seconds before turning off for the day, thus avoid flooding and engine failure. Look out fr the video saying how to maintain rx8.

  • how much oil does it use ? so by that i mean 1 liter of oil on how many miles? ( i can convert it to km )

  • I've got a rx8, had the recall for the oil lines but guess what the dealer only could be bothered to replace the easy side (n/s). Oh yes other side now leaking! Plus £200 for a replacement line from Mazda. Bottom line if you have had the recall, you better to check that they could be bothered to do the full job. Was really simple to do aswell no drama.

  • D:

  • @mirekiewa Insulted in Polish, that's a new one on me. English insults only please, have some respect.

  • What is the name of this song plz?

  • Bad fuel economy, drinks oil,no low end,not vary reliable, nobody can work on it. So why buy one just drive one and you will know I love my 8

  • @mitsubishi802 it dont drink oil its only a special lubrication system whith is necessary in wankel engines

  • Rotery engines are horribley unreliable. Low power output and worse fuel economy then a modern V8 to boot. The RX8 is such a nice car...too bad its saddled with a "just to be different" gimmick engine.

  • @addplusminus35 Not really that unreliable if taken care of. I'll concede the bad fuel economy though. Power output on one with decent compression is plenty though. You'd have to have one for a while to appreciate it though, never found a car that offers the same appeal to replace it with which is why I still have mine.

  • @Coolnfunky

SN95 mustangs have a nice sex appeal...Ever thought about swapping the engine for a modern engine so you dont have to worry all the time?...is there enough room under the hood and chasis to fit a v6 motor and tranny?

  • @addplusminus35 Dude, it is so much more than a "just to be different" engine.. I've never owned an Rx but did drive an Fd Rx7 for a weekend and WOW! Amazing car, the rotory is almost like a turbine, super smooth, high revving and plenty powerful.. I'd never own one though due to the extreme thirst and questionable reliability..

  • What's the name of the song, please ?

  • @VeryNewProject iMovie stock Japanese sounding tune. Can't remember the name.

  • Mum got one of these to replace her MGF which had 150k miles on the clock (and was very reliable and fun car might I add, great car). Anyway the Mazda might have been cool but my god what an expensive and troublesome car it was, in the time we had the car it spent more time in the garage than on the road, (certainly felt like that anyway) Finally after afer about 15 months the engine expired on the M5 nearly causing an accident. Once fixed it was sold.

  • where would you get an extended warranty if you bought used? Could you get one directly from Mazda?

  • RX-8 is a great car.. but it have too many problem..

  • Man what's with the gay music on this vid?

  • P.O.S.

  • Did u try to upgrade the starter because the ones they came with was weak that caused flooding and such

  • @mantlecollector Nope. The engine was completely knackered (i.e. broken bits inside it, you can see on the photos).

  • the music ??? lose it. major distraction

  • I regret buying an RX-8...... FML

  • @aliafg2011 What is there to regret? Treat them right and they are just like any other car.

  • how much new engine?!

  • @ValentinSibir £5000 in the UK from Mazda. About ~£3000 for a rebuilt one.

  • @daand12 You obviously missed the point, go troll somewhere else idiot. The 2 stroke mix better lubricates the apex seals and burns CLEANLY out of the engine, unlike engine oil. Learn what and how an OMP system works before commenting again.

  • i like the music in the background. sucks wat happened to your rx8 but you shoulda known they were garbage. mazfa ftl

  • @throwed0ffMex Stock music from iMovie :) . One engine, a couple of oil cooler pipes and that's pretty much all the trouble I've had in almost 8 years of owning it. Not too bad really IMHO.

  • I got 150 before it blew. Now im looking to swap a 13b from a ter gen.

  • @daand12 Original design from Mazda was to run 2-stroke on the combustion chamber, burns better less carbon buildup. and use regular 4-stroke on the E-shaft, but they figure it would be too much of a hassle for the average person to worry about remembering to fill up and add 2-stroke

  • Best way to improve a rotaries life expectancy is to remove the OMP and run 2-stroke oil (approved for fuel injection) in the gas at about a 100:1 ratio. This has been debated for years but with guys getting close to 200,000 miles from a rebuild it's hard to argue the results.

  • @MrRacinGas Interesting comment. I see a lot of people that add oil to the fuel, but most still leave the OMP in there as well though (probably mostly too much hassle to remove). I can't see it would be a disadvantage to do both together.

  • @Coolnfunky Running them together is acceptable, but regardless the fact still remains that engine oil was never meant to be used the way it is in rotaries as it does not burn cleanly and will leave deposits over time that can gunk up the apex seals. As for all the people bashing the reliability of these engines really need to be educated. Without the OMP (Main reason for engine failure) These engines can get the same life expectancy and more than most piston engines. Join a forum and find out.

  • i like dis vid...but ever think about NOT ADDING THE MUSIC THAT WE CANT HEAR OVER?!?!?

  • get a honda s2000 u love them

  • check ur ignition coils if it has a white ring behind it then ur ignition coiles r burnt out mine burnt out at 30,000 changed it and it runs way better

  • @pongpang26 Standard care of the car is to change the coils every 30k or so anyway (although not a Mazda recommendation). Incomplete combustion has been linked to build up of carbon and on to increased engine wear.

  • same problem i got ....after 3000 km the engine will not more work :))so needs to be changed !!

  • hey buddy well i got a pretty good answer you should turn ur car ignition on let light dis-pear so wait like second's then go ahead and turn ur car on..should work. worked for my freind

  • It was all these problems that put me off buying a second hand rx8. Went for a mazda6 mps instead, will get an rx8 someday but as a second car most likely

  • im looking to buy an rx8, do you know if the problem still continued after the 2004 models?

  • @crazyhinduguy Not sure how widespread it is in general, but I know of several individuals cars that have had similar issues up to fairly recent manufacture. No idea if the RX8 R3 facelift model has it - I believe there is a slight modification to the engine design with respect to a change in oil metering pump and additional oil injector for better lubrication.

  • @Coolnfunky

Yea it has a 3rd oil injector in 2009+ years which *should* help it. I bought my car with 18k miles an at 28k now, I think the owner before me took care of it really bad because my compressions is at about 100 on each face fot he front rotor. 116-120 is brand new... So the engine does have a better chance but left in the wrong hands it can still go bad.

  • @crazyhinduguy after extensive use the apex seals in the wankel engine lose their seal.

  • @crazyhinduguy every rx8 from 2004 - 2008 is the same car and engine they didnt change anything.

  • @crazyhinduguy it's the same engine regardless.

  • dont get 2004 in auto, get it manual. 2004 models have oil injector problems :)

  • @davidd505 Nope! Had one since 04 release and no issues. Musta been a dud :)

  • @crazyhinduguy As far as I'm aware, it wasn't fixed in the pre-facelift models. Very much depends on how well it's been looked after though. More people haven't had problems than have, it just tends to be those that have that put videos on youtube. :)

  • I truely love my Mazda 3 and Mazdas and as well as this one but I hate the flodding in the RX-8

  • @mazda3guy00 Had the car since August 2004, and it hasn't flooded once. As long as you don't turn it off until the temp needle starts moving, it's a non-issue. The issue in the vid is nothing to do with flooding. Other than the engine failing - and it's debatable as to whether this is a design issue or just bad luck and quality control - it's been rock solid reliable since I bought it.

  • @Coolnfunky not to say you shouldn't let it warm up, I always do. but since the re-flash (msp16), flooding is a thing of the past, even on the 04/05 models.

  • Samurai Mazda? What's with the music?

  • @radioham67 Seemed like a nice cheesy idea at the time.

  • @Coolnfunky I enjoyed the music, felt like marble cheese to me. Lol but sorry to hear about the car.... I've had mine just shy of a year and now I have to replace the coils and plugs. Hopefully compression is still good

  • @Coolnfunky well i like the Samurai Music.

  • @ROTARYBIZNESS ive got an 88 vert can do a 13b build or a v8 conversion, both about same cost. you may laugh but in all fairness the rotary is fairly simple construction which is what i like. . yet it scares people to no end

  • @sublimestudios Just under 6 years, and 86k miles

  • @Coolnfunky change your air filter next time

  • @KLONIME1001 :/ Not quite sure how that would fix a catastrophically failed engine. Do you know something I dont?

  • I just gotta put this out there, half way through gas and 155 miles trip? Thats pretty good mileage, assuming you reset trip every gas fill?

  • @Tjmomma2 Yep, I reset after every fill up. Typically get 22-24 UK mpg (I think that's about 19 US mpg) on my normal commute, so works out to be about 270 miles to a tank (or rather the point where the orange light has been on for a bit and I chicken out). I tend to have fun driving it as well, so am not aiming at economy!

  • im a little confused, are you showin the first cold start as knowing there was a problem? or were u just showing a cold start? and did you CEL ever come on?

  • @tableoftisch Direct comparison, hour or so apart of cold start then hot start. Problem only manifested when starting with a hot engine. Only had the clips as I planned to take it into the dealer for a hot compression test the following week (compression test had been booked for 3 days after the engine failed).

No CEL. Of people who have had engine failure due to compression issues, normally no CEL either. Even when I was sat at the side of the road with a completely knackered engine, no CEL.

  • @Coolnfunky why would it rev like that when youre startin it cold? how long was it doin that for? and thats lame no CEL, the epu cant even realize the engines messed up!? weird. sorry about your luck buddy, ive had a little better with mine surviving winters and all, u still have yours?

  • @tableoftisch Not sure. It kind of hunted like that, I think I didn't really notice it getting worse as deterioration was so slow (over maybe 6 months). I guess it might have been the anti-stall trying to compensate for the condition of the engine.

Still got mine, and it's still going strong (now it's got a new engine :) ). Even with the occasional grief, I think it's a fantastic car.

  • @Coolnfunky word, hell yea man, glad its workin out for ya

  • lower the volume of the music or just take it off :/

  • @T3RMN8R Sorry, no idea how to do that without deleting and re-uploading.

  • how can you hear anything with that supid damn music

  • Harsh to hear Mike. Hope the install goes ok. With a new engine, mine felt like a new car so was definitely a massive improvement. I hadn't noticed the slow drop off in performance until I got it back sorted.

  • alright cool, I had the engine tested, and sure enough, the engine is showing low compression. Unfortunately, I had to foot. haha But at least i'll have a new engine, judging from your video, it's well worth it.

  • Also, there's a good owners forum (google RX8 ownersclub, it's the first hit), with a pretty helpful bunch of people who're good at sussing out issues.

  • Hi Mike, doesn't sound great. If you've been for a good run so the engine's well up to temp, and you turn it off and leave it for around 10 - 15 mins, and try again, does it take noticeably longer to start?

  • and my email is mrime@live.com please help me out if you can. thanks again

  • hey man, thanks a lot for making this video, I also own an RX-8 and I am experiencing the misfires right now, the engine feels fine when it it cold, and while warming up, but as soon as it gets to operating temp it feels as if it is running @ about half power. and sounds like it has an exhaust leak. just wondering if you could let me know what your symptoms were, because I am tempted to take it in, but the dealership is a trip and a half from where I live. thank you. my name is mike

  • @yama1neo check the plugs, cables and fuel injectors.
